I too love the secondary characters, pretty much all of them! When I first started writing fics, I was afraid of making too many assumptions about them, and doing non-canon character development. ...Then, I went: "fuck it, let's do it!", and I'm pretty much slowly developing my own alternate fanon — a "Folly-verse", if you will — where I can toy with the characters and have fun writing.
I'm always astonished but happy, when people say that they like what I do!

Ya, Monarchs can stand down from their position due to several reasons, one of which is age. So elderly Star wearing Earthy clothes isn't a guarantee that she won't rule at all, just the most likely place she'll retire to(cue end theme).
I think the forward clock just takes what's given to it and ages the person based on those variables. While the backwards clock works off of pre-existing/actual past information. 14 year old Star was wearing the cactus headband at that time, therefore it was included on GrandStar. I think if it was a true and/or concrete future the wand probably would've been altered as well.(Dang that would've been cool, though maybe the wand is immune to such things? Or it was just plain spoiler avoidance)
Either way it was a fun little glimpse into the distant future/'what if'. I'm still kind of disappointed that we only saw old Marco's head. But I figure they wanted to work in another joke before getting to the ending parts. Another part of me assumes/hopes that the rest of him might have been spoilers. .
