Man, this fucking issue made me remember just how much I loved Hal Jordan before I got event fatigue with Johns run.

I want King on Green Lantern now.
>>
King is great, but he also proves we need some new talent and fresh voices in the Big Two
>>
>writes good Hal
>writes good Kyle
Just give him GL
I know people don't want him on a big name but its for the best.
>>
>>77418869
Also this yeah. I mainly see that as a problem with Marvel more so than DC though, they reuse Aaron, Bendis, Hickman, Slott like it's nobody's business.
>>
Give him anything but let him finish the visions first
>>
>>77418920
He deserves to be on big name characters so he can be appreciated properly. It's not fair that he does fantastic work and doesn't get rewarded by sales.
>>
>>77418954
What books is he on now?
Grayson
Visions
Omega Men

Am I forgetting anything? Maybe they can have him take over for Venditti after Omega Men ends.
>>
>>77419177
He has a Vertigo mini called The Sheriff of Babylon coming out next month.
>>
>>77419199
Sheriff any good?
>>
>>77419199
Shit, read it wrong. Ignore me
>>
Didn't he sign an exclusivity contract with Marvel?
>>
>>77419393
No, that was a fake pic

He won't leave Dick so soon
>>
>>77419393
Source you Marvel kek.
>>
>>77419393
you got memed on
>>
>>77419393
Dick's his favourite character and he's given free reign on establishing him as a big hero, he'd probably drop Marvel first
>>
>>77419429
>>77419440
>>77419522
>>77419554
Thank you sweet christ
>>
I love Hal so much, this issue was a blessing
>>
I was hoping we'd get a Parallax shout out at some point
>>
>>77419554
I mean, if Marvel offered him a boatload of money, he'd probably take it, regardless of how much he likes writing Dick Grayson. But I don't think DC will be stupid enough to let another rising talent jump ship without putting up a competitive offer.
>>
>>77418920
Just relaunch the book as GL and the Omega Men.
>>
>>77419864
forget that, I want him on the main GL book

pls DC I've been good this year you owe me
>>
>>77418920
>>77419864
I can see the solicit already
>Turning Green
>As the Omega Men continue to commit terrorist acts across the galaxy, the newly reformed GLC is sent after them but to their own shock the once thought dead Kyle Rayner is now their new leader! How will Hal, Jon and Guy deal with these new revelations? And why exactly is Kyle commanding a terrorist unit?
>BACK UP STORY! With the new GLC new units are formed! Who joins the GLCs new SWAT team lead by Guy? Who will be top detective in Jons Special Crimes unit?
>>
>>77419878
They already uncancelled Omega Men. It doesn't matter how good you've been, they are paid up in full.
>>
>>77419781
I'll be more worried when his kids approach college age.
>>
>>77419967
I want this
>>
>>77419967
Hnng
>>
>>77419864
>>77419967
I wish they let him complete his Omega men and tell whatever story he wants to tell, without any editorial interference to push Green lanterns into it. It's going on great for now. Maybe he'll introduce Omega men into his Green lantern run when they hopefully hand it to him.
>>
>>77419987
They uncancelled it, but it still has an expiration date of around 12 issues.
>>
>>77420054
I bet they're not going to interfere with Omega Men

he said even before it was cancelled it was going to have an impact on the DCU so I wouldn't be surprised if he planned to have other Lanterns or cosmic characters show up anyway
>>
>>77418811
man and i though Shaner's Billy looks great, his Hal is amazing
>>
>>77420213
I mainly made this thread to talk about how great of a writer King is, but fuck that art was pretty great too. Really impressed with the Shazam issue too.
>>
>>77418811
I really think Green Lantern has a lot of potential as a concept, but the stories always fall short of that potential. But this was awesome. I would love to read more from this team.

Just imagining what King could do with Saint Walker, Mogo, Medphyll, Sinestro... With nice and pleasant art by Shaner...
>>
>>77420213
>>77420367
I really like that this issue is basically standalone, outside of the nods to Batron you don't need anything else from Darkseid War to read this and it's a great character showcase for Hal

With this and Grayson Futures End I think King is really good at making use of done in ones, and in Omega Men he's really careful about putting page space to good use

and yeah I love Shaner's art, his Hal in particular is both adorable and handsome

John and Sinestro were only on a couple panels but they looked good too

I would give all my dollars for King/Shaner to do more GL stuff (I desperately want more of King's Hal but any GL would be great)
>>
>You want a God? My name is Hal Jordan. My father cut open the sky

I get chills every time I've read that line. So fucking good.
>>
>>77420469
>Grayson Futures End
Dude fuck yeah. I mean that issue kind of helped set up a little bit of Dick asking the other Robins & Batgirl to help him out but still one & done mostly.

Shaner's art makes me think of a cross between Kirby (sort of) and Darwyn Cooke and someone else I can't really put my finger on. It's a very very nice artstyle that doesn't look too "cartoony" but still very whimsical if that makes sense.
Whoever was on the colors for this issue fucking killed it, too.
>>
>>77420480
I don't read GL, what did "My father cut open the sky" mean?
>>
>>77421570
It's a line from earlier in the issue, his dad was a pilot too and Hal's talking about how he flew

>>77384247
>>
>>77421570
Hal's father was a pilot, in the issue they talk about how Martin Jordan "cut the sky open" when he flew

God cut the sky open, is Hal Jesus?
>>
Slightly off topic;
Is Darkseid War always this level of good? I am apprehensive to pick it up. I am getting tired of these events.
>>
>>77421699
>>77421696
Thanks bros. GL recs? I've downloaded GL Rebirth, Sinestro Corps, and Blackest Night but I don't know if I should start with those
>>
>>77421734
This issue is easily the best thing to come from it but it's been pretty good overall
>>
>>77421762
yeah you can start with Rebirth, but be ready for some continuity heavy stuff

Sinestro Corps War and Blackest Night were the milestones of Johns' GL run and you can read them standalone but they're even better if you read his whole run

Also New Frontier is another great take on Hal in particular
>>
>>77421797
When did Johns run start? I could go from there. I'm still finishing up on my Flash backlog, currently on Waid's run.
>>
>>77421846
>Waid's run.
heh

Why is this not real?
>>
>>77421846
His run started with Rebirth, then continued with GL vol 4 #1
>>
>>77422026
Nice. Thanks, man.
>>
>>77422054
no problem, I hope you like it anon, Johns GL is one of my favorite runs
>>
>>77419967
>Who joins the GLCs new SWAT team lead by Guy? Who will be top detective in Jons Special Crimes unit?

holy shit why isn't this already a thing already
>>
>>77422073
If it's anywhere as good as Johns Flash, I'm sold
>>
>>77421734
no it sucks, this is the exception.
>>
>>77421762
First Flight
Emerald Dawn
Emerald Twilight
JLI
Green Lantern: Mosaic
Zero Hour
Final Night
JLA
Ion
Tomasi's GLC
Red Lanterns
>>
>>77422317
Thanks bro
>>
>>77421734
I've loved it so far. For once in a very long time, Justice League feels like it's the corner stone book of DC.
I'm kind of mixed on it taking place in the past though. It'd be nice to see the rest of the universe react to the shit going down in the story but I also like how contained it is, instead of being some huge event.
It's Johns at his A game, honestly. For sure worth checking out. Make sure to read Forever Evil though, since it looks like the back half is going to feature Super Woman a lot more.
>>
>>77421762
Just start with Rebirth and read all of Johns run. I don't get why people say only read rebirth/sinestro corp war/bn. They're so much more enjoyable when you've read all of it, including the lead ups and in-between stories.
>>
>>77422566
Tbh I only downloaded those 3 because I saw that they were all from the 2000s
>>
>>77418811
Also back a dump truck full of money to Shaner's house already.

Come on son
>>
>>77422669
That was off the top of my head. But yes, Warrior is definitely a must-read. It's everything wonderful and awful about the 90s.

Just use this list.
Also read Emerald Twilight, Final Night, and The Spectre. Zero Hour is a Parallax event, but I haven't read it yet.
>>
>>77421734
the storyline as a whole has been alright but only two of the tie-ins have been good (GL and Shazam)
>>
>>77424956
I wish people would rec more than just Johns' shit.
>>
>>77426085
Read the Alan Moore stuff.
>>
>>77426085
Gerard Jones' run is on par if not better than Johns' in my opinion. Special mention goes out to Engleharts run.
>>
>>77426133
>>77426210
>>77426085
Give recs
>>
Anyone else feel the writing wasn't very good with this issue? It was hard to finish
>>
The Johns praise for Green Lantern is completely unwarranted. Read the majority of it and it was fucking boring. How he ever became popular is a true mystery.
>>
>>77426133
>>77426210
I've read a lot of the prior stuff already. I just mean it seems a lot of the time when people ask about GL, they get recommended Johns' run and it's a great run but it's all anyone ever recommends when a lot of the stuff coming with Johns' run takes a different approach to a lot of the lore and I'm seeing people regarding this as about the only thing anyone SHOULD read and I can't even begin to say how wrong that is.
>>
>>77426085
This guy did >>77422317

I also really enjoyed Marv Wolfman's and Gerard Jones's end

GL/GA and Englehart were alright
>>
>>77426277
They probably recommend Johns stuff because it IS the definitive modern GL material, like it or not, it includes two large events, has a beginning and an end, is pretty quality throughout, and more importantly it's actually available to buy, not everybody is a pirate and older GL stuff is woefully uncollected

Saying it's the only GL stuff one SHOULD read is wrong but it should not be a surprise that it's heavily recommended
>>
>>77426231
I thought it was pretty great, what didn't you like about it?

>>77426334
Silver Age GL is also a blast if you get used to the Silver Age-y writing
>>
>>77426409
No narration boxes. How am I supposed to know what's going on?
>>
>>77426277
>I'm seeing people regarding this as about the only thing anyone SHOULD read

I don't think this is what people intend. It's just that it's a good starting point and a lot of material to go through anyway.
>>
>>77426409
The religious stuff with young hal was really preachy and the whole "Oa is destroyed, you're the only one left to do anything" thing is so played out.
>>
>>77426458
Meh. It's not as bad as I make it out to be, but it happens enough with this and Morrisonbats that it starts to grate a whole hell of a lot.
>>
>>77426231
Nigga what? No, fuck you this issue was great.
>>
>>77426275
It was good you fucking contrarian. But yeah it got pretty boring a few times. I had to drop it after Blackest Night until I reread it all a couple years ago.
>>
>>77426465
It was a story specifically tackling the subject of divinity and what it meant to Hal, someone who's held the power of the divine and fucked it over. In one issue, he redeemed himself far better than he ever did in Spectre, Final Night, and Rebirth combined. How the hell did you think the story was going to play out?
>>
>>77419554
>Dick's his favourite character

Wow, what a terrible human being.
>>
>>77426542
go to bed tom
>>
>>77426465
>The religious stuff with young hal was really preachy
how was it preachy at all?

bringing up religion doesn't automatically equal preachy

>tfw can't understand what's happening unless every page is at least 50% expository narration
;_;
>>
>>77426680
No, really. Fuck your shit tastes. This was one of the best Green Lantern stories I've read in years.
I loved the hell out of this issue.
>>
>>77426334
Wolfman is good, but I wish he had had more time to tell the story he was setting up. Also, the beginning of GL/GA, at least, is top tier.
>>
>>77427792
Yeah I wish Wolfman would have stuck around longer

I do enjoy GL/GA although I have my beefs with it, the Adams drawn issues are pretty great but after it got cancelled and came back it was still okay but it got a little odd
