Depends on the school and person. My HS wasn't very much like that, but when I transferred to another they were treated like gods. Every school is different. There were a couple really stuck up and elitist girls. These were always the ones whose moms were the most aggressively cheer-obsessed. The rest of us were really annoyed and embarrassed by it because that wasn't what we wanted to represent. Eventually both our coach and captain gave them the ultimatum that they could either fix their attitude or take a hike.
As for the stereotypes, they can be somewhat accurate. There are definitely some mean girls in cheer. In my school you had to have a B average to do sports so there weren't any dumb ones. I think to do cheer you have to be sort of bubbly and loud and I think a lot of people misinterpret that personality trait as being stupid or airheaded. This stereotype is always funny to me though (pic related).
I do think the stereotypes negatively affected the way people acted around me and towards me though. We got so, so much hate. There were many times girls would be incredibly mean to me right to my face. Guys were easier to deal with but forget about getting one to take you seriously.

Maybe slightly higher, since there were a lot of parties... a big chunk of the squad wasn't interested in partying though and only a few were like known for hooking up. As far as the girls teams go, everybody had a couple friends or acquaintances or whatever who played different sports, and everybody was really friendly with us by daylight, but I've had a couple of these friends give me the bad news that their teammates all shit talked us. They hated that they played a 'real sport' and yet we got all the attention from everyone. And I totally understand that. Those girls work just as hard as cheerleaders, probably harder, and they don't get the recognition they deserve. I think that's a problem with women's sports in general though.
