Hi co
I run a program for at risk teens and as part of that we sometimes use comics to start discussions. Does anyone have some great panels or arcs that have social commentary or have characters tackling real-world problems. Thanks in advance.

The Wasp deals with childhood autism.
>>77391935
Practice safe sex.

Think your shitty bait through a little better next time. In the meantime, kill yourself.
yeah sure i got some
>>77391935
I'm going to assume that since you're helping "at risk teens" that you're in the inner city. There are a lot of X-Men stories that serve as pretty on-the-nose allegories for racial discrimination.
Batman #44

Yeah, like whining endlessly about Tumblr and SJWs. Get out.
>>77392495
wow
>>77392466
They've addressed how he constantly has to decide who lives or dies because he can only do so much at once.
I recall a Teen Titans arc where they dealt with runaway kids; one of the writers (Wolfman?) said the hardest thing to learn when he was researching the story was that it's better NOT to take the kids home, because their life there is so horrible.
>>77392495
I don't know if I've ever seen someone so mad that someone isn't shitposting.
>>77392628
This thread has some kind of shitposting angle to it. I don't know what it is, but I don't intend to find out. Now fuck off.
>>77392696
>This thread has some kind of shitposting angle to it.
Are you really this autistic? Fuck off back to middle school kid, If you can't contribute to the thread why bother posting? You're invisible shitposters don't exist
>>77392696
everyone fuck off? that guy that mentioned shitposting? dude, relax. Get your ma to bring you some poptarts. It'll be ok.
>>77392696
Are you okay? Are you dealing with a real-world problem?
>>77392542
Just double-checked; it was New Teen Titans #26-27, and also featured the first appearance of Terra.

Not sure how fitting this specific panel is but you can try to find the old cap issues with his gay best friend dying in it. I think his first name was Bernie?
Wolverine deals with constant rage issues.
Punisher deals with the loss of loved ones. I'm a father, myself, and this page fucks me up.
And this is the hardest, realest page of anything I've ever read.
Fuck, man.
Post pics of comic book characters getting btfo
I recommend Kurt Busiek's Astro City
There's a lot in there and I'm sure you'll find something that you can use
Thanks for all the work you do

If you want to confront them with their death take Joe the Barbarian. Some nice young adult novel stuff.

Also, that might be the least Bendis I've ever seen Bendis.
>>77391935
I went through my pages and panels folder and I was shocked at how little real world stuff I have. All I can contribute is the full version of your image and a bump. Maybe you could check out the recent Action Comics arc where Superman protects a peaceful protest from the cops.

There are probably a number of the 70s and 80s comic books where the writers were really into putting social commentary. There's the entire run of Green Arrow being a hippie and anti-establishment, but also with his side-kick, whom he was supposed to be mentoring, developing a serious drug habit.
Unfortunately, I've never actually read them so I cannot recommend a specific one, but hopefully someone else might give you better insight. Likewise, Stan Lee did an anti-drug comic book, which was the first CCA/code era book released without the seal because the CCA would not permit drug use to be shown even for an anti-drug message. I think it was a Spider-Man book, but again others will know.
Likewise, a simple browser search for "social messages" and "comic book characters" will both give you panels (so you won't need to get entire books) and also options; like "real world problems" and other search terms that appeal to you, together with "comic books" or "comic book characters."
There was an entire AIDS comic book released in the 90s, but it's primarily aimed at gay men with some IV drug users and a few hetero scenes, and there were also safe sex comics that again were primarily aimed at gay men, all of which should again come up in browser search. I believe adding "GMHC" to your search will give you the ones.
Good luck!

>he thinks 4chan is his badass secret underground clubhouse for rebels
4chan has been mainstream as fuck for years, babby. Couldn't you tell from all the redditfags prowling around?
>>77392057
Please fuck off to facebook or reddit or tumblr or /b/ if you really hold those beliefs for such a diverse site
It might be a good idea to have them read Sandman. Most people love Sandman, teens will easily be able to get into the edge and some of the content is still relevant
Might not want to show any gender confused kids if you have them the end of A Game of You so they don't want to be beautiful women or hunky men in death like the character there

Mister Fantastic consoles a middle aged man. It's pretty heartwarming.
>>77391935
I think Death of Speedy deals the gang violence, while Tale of One Bad Rat deals with child abuse.
>>77392054
I don't have it, but in Longbow Hunters Ollie and Dinah have a long conversation about having kids and whether they should. If they live a life that would be responsible to bring them into.
>>77392357
wow....this gets me...
>>77395499
was this entire comic art like this? cause this art is what I got into comics for

Here's some more Deadpool being great with kids.
>>77397903
>There's the entire run of Green Arrow being a hippie and anti-establishment, but also with his side-kick, whom he was supposed to be mentoring, developing a serious drug habit.
Green Lantern/Green Arrow, where Green Arrow got tacked onto Hal Jordan's ongoing just because; the issue you're referring to is #85.
>Stan Lee did an anti-drug comic book
Amazing Spider-Man #97 (I think)
>>77398166
Wilson, a graphic novel Clowes did recently. Amazing stuffand definitely better than Ghost World
>>77398107
Sandman was being taught in a university literature course. Then some stupid uptight family of cunts thought it was offensive cause it had nudity. Prof had to put a 'disclaimer' on the course. Cause mature topics in university are terrible!
>>77398377
>and definitely better than Ghost World
I haven't read it but Wilson is not better than Ghost World sorry.Eightball is though
>>77398484
I'm surprised history classes can be taught now because "trigger warning: racially-motivated genocide" would be attached to nearly every fucking textbook and lecturer's sentence.

Also I know GW started out as 8B but I meant the individual stories.
>>77393017
Best answer by far.
>>77398558
and greek-roman literature classics.
I would love a course to bring up Catallus's "I'll fuck you and bugger you" poem though, that shit is awesome. Especially cause he has some of the most beautiful poems for the time.

>>77398368
you know about David Mack, right? Pick up Kabuki: the Metamorphosis. Entire book is basically mixed media stuff like that
>>77398377
Thanks for giving OP the details, I've read some of the GA/GL but don't know the story well enough to give specifics.
>>77398107
I would agree as to Sandman except there's a lot of content there; the Death mini-series might be more on point.
>>77398900
I don't mean the whole thing, but there should be an arc or even just an issue that should be good to pick up and read without any bullpucky. That's the way it was designed.
GL/GA is way too old and too capey to be of any use to these kids aside from the Speedy issues
>>77398758

oh fuck off, you don't even know which artist you're talking about
>>77399056
>you don't even know which artist you're talking about
don't take much of an artist to glue magazine pictures together.
>>77398991
Probably because unlike other super heroes, Reed actually thinks things through about how his life will be changed by his amazing powers
I mean, seriously. How many shirts does Johnny Storm burn through in a week? How many pairs of purple pants does Bruce have for every time he gets pissy? Hell, the only other guy who seems to actually got the whole civilian-wear shit down is Hank Pym. All the guy's gotta do is shrink his costume and keep it in a pocket
>>77399203
Bruce Banner spends a lot of time on the run desu
>>77398897
Ah, I just got into Kabuki, didn't know it was the same artist though. Did get that style, but it seemed like it could have been Dave McKean as well.
>>77398807
This gets me good....

>>77391935
Miller's Holy Terror
Islamic terrorists are a serious real world problem.
>>77398504
Ghost World is easily the most overrated comic I've ever read, I found it shallow as fuck, I never cared about any of the characters or found them compelling.
I would say Hank Pym, but honestly the stuff he's been through is probably too out there for your needs. I dunno. Maybe some of the dealing with guilt and self-loathing stuff would be good.
>>77399420
just seems more comedic than intelligent. It has always bugged me.

>I din't TAKE my name, I'm not a thieving nigger
>>77391935
not exactly teenager material, but
found a collage of that batman pic from earlier in the thread
Ostrander's Spectre run deals with racism and Christian opposition of homosexuality.
You could use this to segue into disillusionment.
And O'Neil's run of The Question gets into all sorts of stuff
Morrison's Joe the barbarian is about a bullied and diabetic kid and his we3 deals with animal experimentation.
>>77399585
I dunno, maybe some of the stuff with his relationship and self esteem issues would work
>>77400489
Some of the stuff from any of the times he was suicidal

Unstable Molecules. Basically the miracle material of the MU. A lot of heroes have their costumes made of them.
>>77400143
I love when Spectre rushed up to Heaven to ask the Archangel Michael if there were gays in Heaven, and Michael basically replied "And you care because...?"
>>77400292
Hard not to read that in Frank Gorshin's voice.
>>77392220
>"I don't need to hear excuses"
Sounds like someone needs to check his privilege
>>77392529
That's cool and all but deciding between 1000 people killed by natural disasters in the span of a day and one suicidal dude, you'd think he'd save the 1000. I mean sure we don't get to see their inspirational and touching stories, but odds are at least one of them was depressed too.
