How come the tomboy character archetype is so common in cartoons and comicbooks?
And why is the farmgirl character archetype so rare?
>>
Tomboys are more common in reality than farmgirls.

Also tomboys are good and farmgirls are shit.
>>
>>77377175
Farmgirl != white trash hillbilly if that's what you're implying.
>>
>>77377175

Latent homosexual, pls
>>
>>77377148
cause a farmgirl is just a dumb hick

a tomboy is a girl who likes things that boys do and appear more attainable to nerdy writers
>>
I know a tomboy gay woman who's better looking than 90 percent of the men out there, got a better personality too.

Does this make me a dyke? Probably.

Farmgirls are a dying breed which only really still exist in farming communities where there's only farmgirls. Now it's mostly just corporate owners, machine operators, and migrant workers.

Tomboys exist everywhere.

Tomboys are an easy way to fill the "strong independent woman" quota, because anything traditionally feminine is seen as weakness, and that's really tragic and misguided.

That said, there are few things more satisfying than to see a girl pushed to the edge, nut up, and kick ass.

People who make cartoons are usually betas and lack extensive experience with girls, so they think tomgirls actually exist and aren't just bitches who try and act "like one of the guys" for access to more dick/attention.

The same retards who think nerd girls are 'attainable' to betas when in reality they're just as likely to leave you for Chad as a mascara-wearing bitch.

Tomgirls exist as little girls but when they grow older those little girls either turn out to be lesbians or super chill girls who are girly but can hang with guys. Usually they have an older brother.

I live near the mountains and see some manly woman with there big trucks full of lumber going through my gas station for coffee every morning around 3am.

They exist, they also live a very stereotypical life. You find them exactly where you think you would. Lipstick lesbians are harder to find, because most of the time they are just some stupid "bisexual" girl who is just experimenting for a little bit, then goes back to gagging on dicks for a living.
>>
>>77377148
If it makes you feel any better OP, I got a show idea I hope to make a reality one day with a red-headed southern belle as one of the characters
>>
>>77377148
Because tomboys are GOAT.

Farmgirls usually end up discarding most traces of their upbringing once moving away from home.
>>
>>77377148
Tom boys are girls who can be one of the guys and feel okay acting normal around and do guy hobbies that dainty girly girls don't like to do like repair cars, shoot guns , watch sports or listen to certain music or talk about subjects that usually trigger feminist.

Let's face it, most of the time when around a girl you want to sex and is womanly, you act differently, talk differently and so forth.

For example, Wendy from gravity falls, she's a tough lumberjack girl who isn't afraid yo get dirty, is confident and easy going.
>>
>>77377148
The comic book tomboy is the ultimate fantasy of many men. Sexy, cute and actually interested in boyish stuff. Guys don't need to tiptoe around her, she understands the jokes but still has the feminime touch when she has to deal with things. Not to mention they're usually full of energy, optimism and they're assertive as fuck.

What is not to like?
>>

Because who the hell lives on a farm anymore? It's not 1925.

>because anything traditionally feminine is seen as weakness, and that's really tragic and misguided.
This. I hate how people think being traditionally feminine = weak
>>
>>77383408
Well, most traditionally feminine traits ARE tied to the "women=delicate flowers" stereotype.
>>
>>77382291
Or younger brother. I find that girls that are only children or sister tend to be insensitive to boy's feeling and don't believe males have emotions, while older sisters of boys have a bit of a paternal side and also see what happens when their little bro gets dumped by a girl and witnesses their heartbreak and talks to them and comforts them and thus has insight into boys having feelings and can handle relationships better.

The problem is more how heroism and strength are culturally defined as winning through direct confrontation. Subterfuge and persuasion are less than "manly" in our Hollywood-poisoned minds, yet those things have just as much, if not more an impact on our history as physical battles.

I prefer to view heroism in terms of self sacrifice, determination to see through a moral cause, readiness to do what's necessary for the greater good. Just to keep this /co/-related, one of the greatest heroines is Ms. Brisby in the Secret of Nimh, and she is so while doing perhaps the most feminine thing possible: being a mother.

Tomboys allow you to have a female character with a personality that lets them mesh well with a predominantly male cast and is ultimately easier to write for male writers.

They are an easily recognizable archetype. That's the main reason why it's so prevalent.

And if this thread wasn't enough proof, the tomboy is popular among guys. It gives girls their daily dose of girl power while it's an easy way for guys to imagine a love interest who is also like a friend.

This dislike for farmgirls, I don't understand it. If anything I've found them to be much like everyone else but with a tendency to be more practical both in terms of knowledge and the way they think.

So less uneducated hicks and more practical. Of course in cartoons you get more of that because it's a silly and funny archetype.

Farmers tend to need a grasp of chemistry, trait inheritance and general biology, weather patterns and a familiarity with economic forecasts and an understanding of international trade. The hillbilly shoveling manure trope doesn't really exist in reality. Most farmers are actually way more educated than most of the people in this thread.

An actual farmgirl would probably think you're an imbecilic city slicker who thinks he knows everything based on nothing but prejudices and confirmation bias.

I used to reside in Tenerife when I was a kid. Lived there for a good few years and had a best friend who was from the same country as me. His neglectful parents were alcoholics who interestingly ran a pub and he would spend most if his life staying over at my place.

When we moved back home I never heard from him again. I didn't know his surname and when you're a kid it's never something you think to ask. Recently I've been trying to find him through social media, through census records, immigration records, birth registries (in case he was actually born there), I've called various businesses that were nearby that may remember the owners' names, but nothing. It's like they never existed. It's a shame that Tenerife was a corrupt-as-fuck island run by British and Russian mobsters because otherwise there might have actually been records of their existence.

Looks like I'll truly never see him again, and I find that a shame because we were so close and I have such vivid memories of our friendship because I realize he was an important person to me.

>Aren't those still masculine traits though?

Are the sacrifices a parent makes for her children masculine? Are people who avert war through words and ideas less heroic than those who rush into war?

I understand perfectly the need to lionize warriors. We ask for their lives. But wars themselves don't always serve the greater good, and we don't sing enough praises for those who avert it through diplomacy. That actually happens far more often, and has larger effect on our daily lives.

>a farmgirl is just a dumb hick
>a tomboy is a girl who likes things that boys do and appear more attainable to nerdy writers

A farmgirl is a conservative, stereotypically girly girl.

Comics and animation writer here, bearing bad news: corporations encourage us to use stereotypically girly girls in entertainment—not because they're actually popular with anyone, but because you can sell them in the Midwest and the Third World without fearing an anti-feminist backlash (same reason why mixed boy-girl groups in so many kids' movies always have more boys than girls).
In reality, the girly girl is a constricting stereotype of a character whom most real girls don't even like unless it's linked somehow with adventure (see: princess characters).

Tomboys read as less boyish in today's climate than simply less bound by stereotype. The tomboy can get into any kind of storyline just like a boy, but not BECAUSE she's like a boy—just because she has fewer gender-based stereotypes hung on her.

Fifteen years ago we had Alex Mack, Kim Possible, Lara Croft, and other kids' heroes who behaved like tomboys even though they were traditionally feminine in look—sometimes even sexy (Lara). That was the way forward.
But the rise of the religious right, and corporations' desire to pander to them, has pushed us back to an earlier era in which tomboys are once again rather solidly boyish in appearance.

>Tomboys read as less boyish in today's climate than simply less bound by stereotype.

That's something I've noticed. Judging from this thread, then every girl in my uni is a tomboy. I really haven't seen a skirt in ages; all girls wear jeans or leggings. They're all quite open, loud, extroverted, "chill", smoke and drink hard and swear with absolute lightness. More than a few wear plaid shirts, like any dude that got a discount at hot topic. And yet, most also act all OMGDASSOCUUUUUUUTE under certain circumstances and even squee over various things.

"Girly girls" rather are what I don't see much anymore. Or maybe nowadays' tomboys are located even further in the masculinity axis, so to say, in comparison to past eras' and regular girls have in generals become more dude-ish - I don't know.

Thing is, tomboys are indeed a fantasy to nerds, which the cartoon industry and viewership is brimming with, because being with one would relieve them of the pressure of having to be(come) the alpha, to be manly, to be assertive on a constant basis. It secures them into their comfort zone, it's a reaffirmation of the passivity they can't outgrow; 'Muh gf is a tomboy; I don't need to grow a pair anymore.'

Of course, let's take into account that most tomboys, in reality, love partying and sports and are all around quite outgoing. For the lack of a better word, they're 'femchads'. And so, they will seek the company of men that are precisely into partying and sports as well; because it's resembling that kind of men in personality, if not also in appearance, and hanging out with them regularly what earns them the sort-of title of 'tomboy' in the first place.

Then again having dropped out I'm one to talk, but at least I didn't start crying throughout class because of bad marks everyone else probably had as well. Teacher had to spend time after class to comfort her and everything.

It was not cute crying just so we're clear, it was mascara smudging tier.

Until then, hey, guess who's really feeding hundreds of homeless in relief efforts and not making a big stink about it?

>Girls lie about their sexual orientation all the time.
Girls are just insecure about everything, including their sexuality, and can't make up their minds. Where do you think the whole "Gender and sexuality are fluid" nonsense came from? From women changing their minds about whether they thought they were straight, bi or gay.

I don't know about you but I wanted to know I was gay or bisexual once, I tried to date a guy and there was just zero attraction. Made out with him, shit fucking sucked. Since then I know for sure that I am not gay. I don't know why straight women need to bounce around and make out at parties and go through a "bisexual" phase, all the lesbians and bi women I know knew fucking fairly early which way they swing.

Men are, simply put, the ones expected to be the strong leaders - and not just to women, but in general and for all of their lives. And it earns them all sorts of infamy and vitriol when they aren't. So, when a woman 'does it', it's extraordinary and highly admirable; but in the case of a man, he's just fulfilling his role and earns him only the standard amount of praise.

>Every woman wants an assertive, dominating man for the exact same reason.
Obviously. Because, and despite what cartoons and other media might want to sell to the people, the majority of straight women still prefer manly men, and not the meek, skinny nerd guy without muscles or a backbone.

Engineering majors have an average IQ of like 120

For better schools it can be 130-140

Male IQ distribution has a larger standard deviation than female IQ distribution

This means there are more retarded males, but also more high-IQ males, while there are more average-intelligence women

You can expect any degree or profession that is typified by high intelligence or low intelligence to be dominated by men, while women will hold a higher ratio of the middling jobs and degrees (although not nearly as much as men dominate the extremes, because the majority of men will still be within the average range)

That's really all there is to it, and it's unlikely that it will change

I can't exactly say any of that is news to me. But I still ask why because damn, I don't want this to be the case. The world shouldn't be like that. It's too lonely.

I remember there was a big study/survey thing that concluded that women by and large just aren't into STEM fields, they overwhelmingly prefer humanities, and the ones looking for a challege go straight for medschool

Only if you think you can only fall in love with someone who has the same knowledge base and career interests as you

In which case you might be just a bit shallow

In my experience even intelligent women much prefer life sciences over anything abstract and mathematical

Lots of smart women go into chemical or biological fields. Lots of men go into those fields too, of course. But women seem to be discouraged by fields that are more abstracted, like math, physics, programming, etc.

It's more that I have barely seen any women outside of my family ever since.
I suppose I could sign up for some class or activity outside of work. But that would take away time from work.

While I do find the idea of female engineers attractive, it's not so much about who you can fall in love with and just that there aren't any women around anywhere.

I'm an engineer too man

If you're so busy that you can only meet women at work or nowhere, you need to cut down on the work

Lots of engineers are paid well but abused by their bosses because they're too afraid to stand up and say "Nah, I'm not going to overload myself like that"

I'm in biomedical engineering and the majority are female

all of those have become old to me now. If they display one of those following archetypes TOO strongly, I consider them immature. I just want a regular, level-headed girl.

I am not exaggerating. There are none. There was one a few years ago but she didn't stay long.
And well. There is also the problem that I have no idea what to else to do that that also involves women. I have had hobbies in the past where I regularly went out, but they didn't involve women either.
As I said, I guess I could sign up for a class or something but I don't know.

While I do wish things were different I guess I am also wary of change in general, which could be why I routinely spend just about every day more or less the same. But enough blogging. That was never really my intention. I mostly just replied because it was implied that I could be shallow for finding the lack of female engineers lonely.
