How do you feel about Mabel Syrup's Hamster Huey and the Gooey Kablooie?
>>
I thought it was pretty dark considering the target audience, to be honest.
>>
>>77373798
Kinda sounds like gross-out humor.
And yet the sequel sounds like a porn parody.
How the hell does that happen?
>>
Also I don't understand American 'A's. Do you really pronounce "commander" to rhyme with "salamander", "singlehander" and "bellylander"? ...And I thought you called coriander "cilantro"?
>>
>>77373926
I'm trying to think of an accent that wouldn't pronounce "commander" like "salamander" and coming up blank. Where the hell are you from?
>>
>>77373926
>Also I don't understand American 'A's. Do you really pronounce "commander" to rhyme with "salamander", "singlehander" and "bellylander"?
I'm sure there are some regional differences, but I'm pretty sure "commander" rymes with "salamander", "singlehander" rhymes with "bellylander", and both pairs of words are slant rhymes for each other.

>And I thought you called coriander "cilantro"?
We also use "coriander" sometimes. Mainly when we want to be fancy, or when we're hellbent on giving out daughters stripper names, and all the other parents have taken up the other spices.
>>
It's only good if you do the funny voices, gooey sound effects, and the Happy Hamster Hop
>>
>>77373998
I'm from New Zealand originally, but most of the UK, Australia and NZ, and I think India plus probably some other colonies, would all pronounce "commander" with a high A, similar to "arm" in most English dialects, and "salamander" with a flat A, as in "flat". But the difference between the two can be subtle in some dialects.
>>
it's a guilty pleasure

I really didn't enjoy the unauthorized sequels in the 90's when they went full edge on the hamsters. I'd never seen that many pouches in my life.

CUM AHN DUR

why that's fucking retarded
>>
>>77374497
>Brits/Aussies/kiwis
>pronouncing hard r's
>>
I preferred the grimdark reboot of the original, to be honest.
>>
>>77374534
it just gets worse
>>
>>77373798
i think no real kid is into dumb babytalk rhymes, LEAST of all badass kids like calvin
>>
>>77373926
cilantro is just mexican coriander
>>77374497
so you don't say sahlahmahnder? why not?
>>
>>77374497
Why, because you pronounce it in a way that sounds equally retarded to us? You're not really that stupid, you're just starting some shit. Arguments about phonetics are boring and pointless, let's not.
>>
>>77373926

The leaf is cilantro; generally the seeds/fruits are still referred to as coriander. Personally I call it noxious soap tasting devil weed, but apparently I'm a mutant.

I would expect Calvin to like grim ultraviolent comics like The Punisher.

>yfw Bill Waterson defends newspaper comics while shitting all over comic books and graphic novels

:^)

Remember, this is the same loser who passed up a veritable GOLD MINE by not making C&H plushies, t-shirts and coffee mugs when the getting was good.

Shows just how little his opinion should be respected
>>
>>77375522
Indeed. Not pursuing material wealth? Atrocious.

>>77373798
Her real name is Mabel Pines

>deciding his sense of integrity and pride in his work was worth more than money

yeah, what a stupid asshat!
>>
>>77373798
Fuck. Ever since I first read these strips as a child, "Hamster Huey and the Gooey Kablooie" has never failed to make me laugh.

I'm a pretty outwardly serious and straight-faced guy, but I literally can't say it out loud without smirking.
>>
>>77375254
Watterson really was a curmudgeonly dick about a lot of stuff. I mean he's spot on with lots of crap but he was a total snob about the purported inferiority of certain artistic mediums.
>>
>>77375330
It was a remarkably on-point critique of the comics of the day.
>>
>>77373798
When did Mabel Pines marry someone with the surname "Syrup"?

Didn't someone draw a "Commander Coriander Salamander" here once?
I feel like I remember seeing a provocative lizard associated with that name

I can agree with this

Clearly he hasn't visited his Patreon page in a while.

>universally respected for a quality product and artistic integrity

i can see watterson as the first one and the second bit seems like projecting. remind me, which of you is successful and which is posting on a taiwanese thatch building bulletin board?
>>
>>77381403
builds character; and comes with a copy of the fountain head, but the rape scene is pasted shut with some kind of adhesive.
>>
>>77381465
I think it's just a common shitpost, criticizing Watterson for not selling out. Pretty good at getting replies too
>>
>>77381533
i can't argue with the results. i would literally sit outside his door for 3 days and 3 nights without food, water, or encouragement in order to enter his temple for training. or until the cops showed up and had me removed for trespassing.
>>
>>77381415
He clearly stole the money.
>>
>>77375593
>>77375779

How naive. Yes, he is a stupid asshat. How many house payments can one make with integrity? Tell, me. How much food on the table is PRIDE going to put on it? No, seriously, I genuinely want to know. That's not integrity, that's foolhardiness.

We only get one go around in life. As such you absolutely OWE it to yourself and your loved ones to get the absolute most out of your work possible. At least Scott Adams, Jim Davis and Charles Schulz lived in the real world and got everything they could. That's realistic

Integrity and an empty sack is worth nothing more than the sack
>>
>>77381415

I don't believe he stated anything of the sort.

What he said was IF he had what Watterson had then he would likely take a different approach.

Huge difference
>>
>>77381770
>there aren't calvin and hobbes anthologies.
fantastic shit post 8/10.
>>77381824
>IF he had what Watterson had then he would likely take a different approach
what's that, talent?
>>
>>77381533

Except in this case I genuinely mean it. Not getting the most out of your work is despicable, not admirable.

>>77381571

What a coincidence, I would literally sit outside his door for 3 days and 3 nights without food, water, or encouragement in order to laugh in his face for for being a naive fool.

And I genuinely mean that.. You getting angry at it is really beside the point.

Money, not unrealistic idealism makes the world go around

So you're saying that selfishness and greed are right. That is pretty sad.
>>
>>77375522
2/10 got me a bit and got a whole bunch of other people

well done
>>
>>77381862
>there aren't calvin and hobbes anthologies.

I most certainly never said there WASN'T anthologies. But while anthologies DO make money, anthologies, plushies, coffee mugs, greeting cards, characters being used to sell products and t-shirts make MORE money
>>
>>77381932
You do know Watterson is still a multi-millionare, right?
>>
>>77381862
>what's that, talent?

No, dumbass. An opportunity to make lot's of money off his creations.
>>
>>77373926
If you pronounce the "a" in "coriander" like the "a" in "cilantro", you must sound like a tremendous faggot.
>>
>>77381979

So tell me something, do you think a person should never get their full due at all for their work? Ever?

Would you be willing to work where you do for a tenth of what you make?
