Spoiler, it backfired so badly on DC that sales went into the shitter and they are going to fix the current bullshit with nothing being remotely coherent next spring.
Currently NOTHING makes sense but once they reset everything next spring (as >>77373707 said, DCYou failed miserably and DC is now trying to patch shit up ASAP for damage control) there will probably be a "very special issue" (probably a Justice League Annual written by someone NOT Geoff Johns) that attempts to piece together something REMOTELY coherent timeline-wise for the last year of DC Comics.

The two take place during different periods of the characters' lives.

If they were going to say "fuck continuity" they should have done it not to hide hack writers contempt for a coherent DC Universe, but to bring back the old continuity and handwave erasing shit that no one liked and damaged the characters (like wholesale purging everything Nu52 Superman from canon and quietly restoring Post-Crisis Superman and friends as the status quo for the New 52)
In the end, we are going to probably get stuck with a "World War III" style filler event down the line to reconcile the bullshit into a coherent timeline.
