Was Jane meant to be asian? I remember watching Daria in 90s and always being sure she is an asian, but in retrospect she looks just like the rest of white characters in the show and has blue eyes

Y'know, im looking at this picture and post (nice trips BTW), and I can't help but wonder why they chose that artstyle. Why didn't they just go with Mike Judge's artstyle? And who came up with this particular style, because its actually very unique, and perfectly describes the era it came from (90s MTVcore).

yeah i know nothing of the artists behind this show, but their style isnt that off from judge's.. and the original pencil tests, even moreso.
you're right though, that style, or a similar one, was in a few other things. Spy Groove comes to mind.
i don't think they really wanted to make anything connected to B+B, they just kinda liked this character who didnt give a shit and put up with shitty people around her, and thought she deserved her own show.

Sure, sure, but Jane never struck me as one who has sacrificed herself to be with others. There's a balance between preserving oneself and interacting with others. And I'm certainly not trying to be cruel to those like Daria who are so inwardly concerned (what with once being one and once interacting so much with such people, perhaps drawing them out, perhaps not), but I'm not as young or as patient as I once was. And I just don't have the time or the energy for Daria's shit.
Whereas Jane's got a certain style and a certain momentum.
