Korra was never great. Korra's plot is about failing and failing until time to wrap shit up comes and she succeeds without overcoming any flaws.
This was also true for Aang, just more diluted with good stuff.

Honesty, i'd be more interested in the red lotus have an entire season telling their backstory than one of korra. In just the small window they were on screen they all showed more emotion, depth, ambitions, and story than all 4 books of korra combined.

Aang was not about falling. He was about rebuilding and being strong. At the very beginning he's already lost all of his friends and family and he gains new friends and family. He gains knowledge of bending other elements. He gains maturity from being an 11 year old to saving the world.

He didn't take his duty seriously. He ran away because he was scared kid instead of doing his duties and all Air Nomads are dead now. He ran away from Guru to save Katara instead of opening his chacras and got lighting in the back for his trouble. When the time came for the final battle, he ran away again, because he decided Air Nomading was more important then his duty. But it was end of the show, so he ran into a Lionturtle instead, giving him powers never mentioned before so he could be both vanquisher of evil tyrants and a pacifist.
He never learned to be an Avatar, he never redefined by himself what does it mean to be Avatar either. The world bent over so he would win in the end.

To be fair he was hypnotized by the lion turtle while he was meditating, and before he got the energy bending he was gearing himself up to kill Ozai.

Being hunted by others because he's the Avatar? Of course he took his duty seriously, you could see him taking his duty seriously, but he was a kid, he wanted to have fun with his life but he realized he couldn't do that all the time. The last half of season 1 and all of season 2 is him taking his duty seriously.

The rest of season 2 is just as good as season 3. Wan episodes, A New Spiritual Age and Darkness Falls are literally 10/10 episodes.

Season 2 got better after the wan episodes, but it didn't get on the level of season 3. Especially the ending of season 2 is retarded because Korra should have won every time she fought Unalaq/Vaatu, but didn't because plot demanded it. Then hand her a plot-device she shouldn't be able to use and she goes to fight Unavaatu, then loses again and gets saved by Jinora.
And to top it off she lets Vaatu win anyway because she also wants to do something world changing like Aang.
