Wally is the only Flash for me, because I love the idea of the Flash as a legacy thing he has to grow into and help define.

I used to be a pretty diehard wallyfag, and v2 flash is one of the consistently best post crisis comics hands down, but the show made me go back and read some silver age flash stories, and they are pretty fucking excellent. Barry is way more of a "how do we use science!" hero, which is rad, and towards the end of his run he got some real pathos. Wally is great because as a legacy character to the dude who died to save the multiverse, he could have been a character always uncomfortable in his mentors shoes, but instead he found his own way, and really defined what the flash is.
Tl;dr ill always be a wally fag, but shit if barry isnt fucking great too.

His comic kick started the Silver Age, he opened the doors of the Multiverse and along with Supergirl closed the doors of the Pre-Crisis era.
He did more than just die, but yeah he's not the best Flash IMO.

Don't really have a strong opinion on the comics because I've read more silver and golden age and the Barry I've read post the 'rebirth' isn't really the same Barry.
From what I am seeing so far, they are all generally good characters, which is a good way of defining "best" - and inhabit the heroic name of The Flash (well, except for Bart) better than any of the other heroes where we have a whole batch of 'em (insert your favorite Green/Red/Mauve/Chartreuse Lanterns here) or your generic Teen Titan, JLI, etc. members.
