I feel like they've been waiting, experimenting, testing the waters to see how things are received until they go full gay.
Just like the odd in-show bubbline interaction has been getting less subtle each time, the comics got progressively a bit gayer as they went too. From the Scream Queens, to North's comics, to Marceline Adrift.
And now that other cartoons has set the stage, with korrasami and steven universe, I think it's time they go the next step - beyond ambiguous hand-holding and "hurr space rocks". I think we could honestly get a confession or even a lip-to-lip kiss. 100% undeniable gay among main characters is still something that hasn't happened in any cartoon and I think the time is ripe for that to happen. And it would be downright poetic for it to happen with bubbline, which kinda kickstarted all this lesbian stuff with the What Was Missing shitstorm back in the day.
I mean, if it happened in Stakes, which is a separate miniseries, would that mean it would be safe for Adventure Time itself to keep airing in countries where it would be banned?
