Midtown Monday is usually a good place to start, just to get the bare minimum with the character's own uniques (which can be BiS until raid gear depending on how up-to-date the hero is). Then it's a matter of looking at artifacts and medallions that are available and deciding which is best fit for your build/playstyleor looking at MH.info and just copying the top rated build, that works, too.Leveling up a Legendary and doing LQs to get blessings to trade for items you can't get due to RNGesus cursing you is also an alternative.

As far as the team-ups go, I was only talking about the changing of the items, not the entire revamping. Misread your sentence when glancing over 'new niches'. You're right though, I suppose it wouldn't be the first time they've heavily revamped a pre-existing system, although I don't remember any changes to the entire of the defense on this scale. The upcoming Defense changes seems like something that'd require redoing the coding and math at every single level, from player powers, to every single item type and gear, to how damage is calculated, etc.
I honestly don't even remember how the TU interface even looked before the revamp since I don't remember ever really looking at it.

They also changed the itemization from percentage based to the rating system is has now, before that (and before they changed to 50% damage mit) they had preliminary increases to diminishing returns on dodge.
Furthermore just a couple months ago they retroactively added in varying amounts of damage reduction on all heroes that didn't have it or didn't have 'enough' and adjusted a lot of heroes' health regenerative skills, life stealing skills, and damage mitigation skills, and I think HP across the board.

I never really played dodge heroes early on, I just remember back in beta when Spider-Man's Ultimate let him sit at 100% chance of dodge, making him invulnerable for 10s or whatever it was. Like every other defense stat, I remember it having some level of diminishing return, but you could just gear Spider-Man to have a really high chance for dodge.
As far as the damage mitigation goes, I wasn't really counting for that because they didn't change any preexisting systems per se for that, they simply added it onto characters since they started putting it on more and more newer heroes and reviewed heroes. I don't crunch numbers, so if they did alter health points across the boards, I really never noticed (although I did take a break the past few months, so maybe I just never noticed before and after).

I'm not really interested in most of the new era marvel characters. I want the classics and it's kind of a let down that I get charcters from the Agents of Shield and not the freaking Wolverine or the Human Torch.
Now if the Future Fight at least introduced Jim Hammond and/or Toro as the Human Torch instead of Johnny Storm that they don't have the rights for, it would be cooler than cool. Still it's a huge blow not having the X-Men in.
