Wow, I never realized just how bad this cartoon was.

Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, directed by cinematic mastermind John A. Davis, is a poignant tour de force of the middle class American zeitgeist in the post-9/11 Bush Jr. era. Rivaling the likes of Paul Thomas Anderson, Davis not only tells the story of a precocious genius-savant, but compels the audience to draw their own conclusions about the morally ambiguous plot.
Jimmy is an unreliable narrator. At times, he forwards a scathing commentary against the military state that exists in his home town. Other times, he displays great nationalistic pride, proclaiming his undying love for the state, and the warm security it provides. This dichotomy can confuse a more feeble-minded viewer (yes, probably you), but for those who have studied such narration schemes for years, this film is deeply stimulating.
>>
>>81519983
Of course, the "state" I speak of is in fact an allegorical one, at least within the confines of the film's universe. The adults who vanish in the beginning of the film fill the role of the state quite nicely.
The 30 or so minutes that follow the adults' disappearance provide the viewer with an impartial vantage from which they may witness the decline of an otherwise civil society into primitive savagery. The citizens, without the guidance of the once reprehensible state, rapidly decline into hedonism and base immorality.
Realizing that they have gone astray, the citizens soon lament the loss of the supreme authority and unambiguous rule of the state.
This is all well and good, but for the fact that these messages are directly contradicted in the subarc of the plot that directly follows. The citizens band together to vanquish their woes, seeking out their "parents" (the allegorical state).
This is a textbook portrayal of classical Marxism, which rejects the higher authority of the state, hoping to eventually succeed in becoming a stateless society.
A great portion of the next hour of the film does service to the fans who require action to even consider watching such a cerebral film. I won't go into this portion of the movie too much, to avoid spoilers. However, although I detest excessive "action" in films, the cinematography was masterful, exceeding the work of his contemporaries; Tarantino, Richardson, and Nolan.
In the end, a desirable compromise was formed between the bourgeoisie and the proletarian children.
Don't go off of my rather skeletonized review. You must see the film to know what I'm talking about. It has a certain je ne seis quoi to it.
>>
>>81519789
I remember liking it a lot, but never rewatched it. How bad we talking?
>>
>>81520009
The movie is not a good movie it is a message. The show is fantastic. Have you ever had a show change your life I was once astray but once I saw the subtext in Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius it reworked the fragile interworkings of my concepts of trust faith and of course a unbridled thirst for knowledge at one point I even ate a lug nut. But James neutrons variety of inventions from the occlus rift to him becoming a female in a males body were actually foretelling of issues of times we now face. I got a Jimmy haircut once but I would always dress like Hugh. If anyone ever talks bad about jimbo I get physically Ill as in my stomach eats its self until I vomit on my shoes again. Luckily a lot of people like Jimmy neutron so heh no worries but the there is always a guy who feels like making a tree stump outta himself. Man I wish they made ultra lord toys I have a room full of toys but they are made in China dollar store toys so I look at my Jimmy neutron poster instead.

I did. It was always incredibly unfunny, and the concept itself was done way more creatively by Dexter's Lab

I hate to be that guy, but even as a kid I knew the jokes in this show were for rubes
>>
I loved it as a kid, is it really that bad?
I also really liked the TV series, I remember a couple of episodes like the one where his stupid friend got his brain to grow larger andl larger until he became a super genius and developed telepathic powers but Jimmy had to stop the growth so he won't die or something I think, also there was an episode where he and his tsundre waifu got stranded on an island or something and they finally started to get together.

Looking back every episode of this show must have been thought up by people on a whole lot of drugs

Jimmy Neutron was the definition of a 5/10. Maybe even a 5.5/10.

I remember enjoying the movie when it first came out but I literally have not seen it since 2002 or 2003 so I have no idea how it would hold up today.

The tv series, even as a kid, ended up boring me to death. The first season was alright but it got very stale very quickly. There were a couple really good episodes here and there like the slumber party one but not enough to make it worth watching through the whole series.

A lot of pilots are bad, especially when they were using 3D or even earlier 3D than the series that came after.

The fucking pilot for a monsters inc cartoon was the worst shit I've ever seen. Trying to tone down the CGI for a kid's network is absolutely a horrible idea, because they always remove textures and shit.
>>
>>81524096
>Trying to tone down the CGI for a kid's network

Why do they even do that for show's based on movies, couldn't they just reuse the movie's available assets? Does the better models and textures used in the movie make rendering take that much longer that they can't affort to use it on frequently aired show?

I promise you there was. I know I'm an anon and this is the bullshit route they go, but holy shit I know there was.

It was on some demo reel that I liked the music of so I downloaded it to rip the audio and use in something I was working on (since I couldn't find the source of the music) and the guy had something towards the end with some test shit where Sully and Mike were doing paperwork and cracking jokes, it would've seemed like a parody or random animation if it wasn't for the fact it had their actual voices and the text at the bottom for Monster's Inc The Series - Test Production.

I would love to show it to you guys but I don't think I have it saved, this was back in like, 2009 or something.

I'm pissed I don't remember the guy's name, I think the youtube account that uploaded it was one of those retarded MSPaint people, so it was just something they found and uploaded.

I didn't watch the whole thing to the credits of the reel so I don't know the guy's name from the portfolio.

The animation looked finished but Sully had less spots on him and Mike had somewhat longer legs.

I'll be sure to keep thinking on it because I wanna share it, didn't know it was a thing people didn't know about.

Eh, I rewatched some episodes recently and I still enjoyed it. They played with some decent wacky sci-fi concepts and had great comedic timing. The writing could get pretty stupid but not overly so for a kid's cartoon. Jimmy was a pretty unlikable protagonist and Carl was annoying as shit but it was fun anyway.

Fuck the haters, this movie is far more clever and charming than it's constantly made out to be. Not only is the cinematography top-notch and up there with the aesthetic of the likes of Wes Anderson, but beneath all the oft-lambasted innuendos and Mike Myers-isms is some clever social commentary of America in a post-Reagan, post-9/11 society. For a moment I even forgot Alec Baldwin was playing a character.

This movie is a masterpiece. Look past its status as an adaptation of the beloved Dr. Seuss book and examine closely its components as a film and see that this truly is a forgotten classic. How did they even get away with some of the jokes? If you hate this movie, you hate fun. And if you hate fun then get the fuck out, you pleb. It was absolutely hilarious with brilliant cinematography and colors. Bo Welch and Emmanuel Lubezki deserve far more credit for this work of art than the so-called "critics" have ever given them.
