I've seen a lot of people saying Fez Stan is Stanley and have been pretending to be Stanford, while the real one went through the portal. But I don't think that's right.
Portal Stan has six fingers. If Fez Stan was pretending to be Portal Stan, explaining away your extra digits missing is pretty difficult. Surgery doesn't explain zero scars.
It's likely Stanford has always been Stanford, and faked Stanley's death when he went through the portal. He could easily forge the will so the shack goes to him, if he needed.

Maybe the portal doesn't lead to a place, but to the Dreamscape which doesn't have material form, maybe it's a conflux of impulses and thoughts, just like the human mind. In Little Gift Shop of Horrors, Dipper pretty much plays the role of McGucket in the Abaconings short. He assisted a genius researcher (Waddles/Stanley), thus splitting him from someone close to them (Mabel/Stanford) in order to create a machine that would benefit all of mankind (Knowledge machine/Portal). Since Stan was telling the story, the ending was what he wished would happen (Stanley shuts down the machine to spend more time with his brother), instead of what actually happened: Stanley ditched him to gain knowledge, and it all went wrong.
And in the Blind Eye, McGucket mentions seeing the same things as Dipper: the gnomes ("little men"), the Gobblewonker/Island Head Beast ("something big in the lake") and the Summerween Trickster ("I stole a hat from a scarecrow!").

For all we know, it could be a website related to Gravity Falls like "Search for the Blindeye." Steven Universe did something similar where a tumblr where a person named Mr Gus created an original character for the show that was clearly based off himself. Eerie was more adventurous due to its episodic nature, so there are a huge host of ideas and situations to enjoy; you'll go "neat" more than once. Twin Peaks rested on this surreal, but ultimately singular, enterprise that you could take or leave since it's basically just ghosts, demons, and native american lore twisted through a surreal sense.
