Bendis didn't really ruin it for me, because I remember reading Moon Knight in Secret Avengers with I think Ellis at the time, and I like him there. I was just getting into comics with the New 52 so I was kind of sampling everything. But when I read this and a lot of the mediocre New 52 titles, I kind of lost hope that comics could be good. Even reading this I just kept thinking to myself, "This is fucking stupid."
I think I picked it up because I liked the art, but now I look at it and I think it's really stiff.
The FIRST first comics I got were FF by Hickman, which was a mistake because I had no idea what the fuck was going on, and Spider-Island.
I just feel like venting.
I hate everything about this. Bendis' humor, the Frenchie replacement trying too hard to be "the only sane man" and coming off as an obnoxious asshole, how Bendis failed to convey that Echo's death had any weight, how annoying Moon Knight is in this, etc.

Have you checked out the new Moon Knight series? The first six issues are by Ellis with amazing art from Declan Shavley. It switches to Brian Wood and Greg Smallwood after that, and they're doing their own thing, but Ellis' short run is really great.

While the last four issues were clearly filler, the first arc of Vengeance serves as a great epilogue to the Huston stories. And I'm thirding all of this: though no slight to Moench and Sienkiewicz, this is easily the best Moon Knight has ever been.

Uncanny X-Force, Venom, Batwoman, Wonder Woman, Rucka's Punisher, early Synder Batman, and Daredevil are what helped me through these dark times. The reason I stayed around was because of that Cloak & Dagger Spider-Island spin-off. I loved it and it made me really want to find more like it.
I read some of the originals and I read the Ellis short series. I didn't know the Finch one was actually good though. I didn't read Wood's though I heard it was good, just not AS good.

How could anyone hate this run? It was thought-provoking, imaginative, with small hints of genius and witty humor. It gave you real feelings for the characters and MK's mental psyche.

I just always assumed from the art it wasn't good. It was very grimdark looking. I'm just disappointing a lot of those series I followed just stopped being good after a while. Like the most frustrated I've been was when I started; I was reading Animal Man and Swamp Thing, and they both just kind of spun their wheels for a loooooong time after their first arcs, because "omg rotworld event coming eventually"

Huston's Moon Knight is "edgy," but it's handled intelligently instead of just being torture porn going for shocks. A lot of questions on morality and the nature of being a hero. Finch being so over-the-top just enhances the story even more.
Animal Man and Swamp Thing were pretty big offenders, and it looks like you'd agree with me that Snyder's Batman was as well. DotF was a huge letdown compared to the (somewhat) more clever Court of Owls. I haven't checked anything else out from him since. At least you had Wonder Woman, though.

And I wouldn't say Batman spun it's wheels as much as Swamp Thing or Animal Man did. It seemed like at least that Synder wanted to do something, but for whatever reason DotF turned out the way it did. He wanted to tell a story on Batman, not so much with Swamp Thing. I remember flipping out over Batman in CoW when he was in the labyrinth and you had turn the comics all over the place. That was great.
