Batman has been my favorite super hero since I could grasp the concept of what a super hero was. However, I have never read any comic books, so where should I start with Batman?
I say read em all. Get the full experience through the good and the bad. Make it a long term goal, not enough people have those.

Read Year One, The Long Halloween and Dark Victory in that order. They make a nice, losse little trilogy.
Check out The Man Who Laughs, a recent retelling of Batman's first encounter with the Joker, and Batman Ego by Darwyn Cooke, which separates Bruce Wayne and Batman personas in a dream sequence where they debate each other.
You definitely need to read The Killing Joke and the Dark Knight Returns as they're two of the most important Batman stories.
Hope this is a good start, and if you like all of these, just keep digging and discovering the never ending world of Batman.

Not really. It's a terribly simple story that gets over hyped. Then once you actually read it you'll probably feel something along the lines of "well that happened" or "okay, got that out of the way" or "that's it?"
