Hey folks, back for another Mignolaverse storytime! Today we're doing Sledgehammer '44, and I might do the second Witchfinder volume afterwards if I've got time.
Yesterday's Lobster Johnson storytime can be found here >>65813662
As usual, please remember to keep this bumped, as OPs can't.
Start the thread with your phone, dude.
>>65839427
Too much work. Also my phone sucks.
In Greek mythology, Epimetheus is the brother of Prometheus. Fitting, given the name of the story that introduced the Vril armor.
Goddamn Nazi mechatanks.
So, how's everyone doing today?
>>65839813
Pretty good on /tg/, /co/mrade
Issue two! Who's reading? Anyone reading for the first time?
>>65839367
Now this is what im talking about.
Thanks JW
These are some familiar faces, huh?
And now, the three-part Lightning War!
>>65841005
OH SHIT!
>>65841053
Oh shit indeed my anonymous friend.
God I love this cover.
God this Black Flame is terrifying.
>>65841844
By the way, his line in this page is
>IS THAT ALL, LITTLE TURTLE?
words of encouragement
>>65842005
Comment of appreciation!
And that's all for Sledgehammer! Next, we turn back the clock to the tail end of the 19th century, and catch up with Sir Edward Grey in America!
hey Johnny, thanks for this! Enjoying it a ton.
This is Witchfinder: Lost and Gone Forever! Featuring the art of the late, great, John Severin.
>>65842699
That's Kate's dad, right? The last name can't possibly be a coincidence.
>>65842746
We have no clue. It's not touched upon again, but it should be. I wonder if we'll see more of that family in Hellboy and the BPRD.
>>65842811
I just have a hard time believing that it's coincidental. if it is, it's a waste.
>>65842845
Oh, I agree.
>>65839367
>As usual, please remember to keep this bumped, as OPs can't.
Rodger-dokey and A-alright.
>>65842699
Why is Mike Mingola Mignola so good at expanding the universe he created, like goddamn his stories are always so interesting to read and think about, this was no different.
>>65843769
I think part of it is that he's always had complete creative control over what happens in the universe, so it's all according to his vision.
As for WHERE he gets his ideas from, I can only assume black magic.
Interesting bit of trivia, Mike came up with the Sledgehammer series because he asked Severin if there was any particular kind of story he wanted to draw and he said a WWII story. Unfortunately he died before he could finish it...
>>65843813
I wonder how much of it is planned out in advance and how much he just adds as he goes.
>>65843813
>WHERE he gets his ideas from
Reading the things he pulls influences form in the back pages of the trades is always really interesting. I have no idea where he finds the time to be as well versed in comics, art, literature, and film as he his. I mean a typical one is
> I based the design of these creatures from the sculptures of a obscure medieval polish artist
>>65844022
I'd like to see a movie about that.
Being Mike Mignola. Starring John Cusack.
>>65844022
I'd imagine he's already interested in that kind of thing, and getting to use it for his job is a big bonus.
>>65844175
I forget, have we heard of Lord Glaren before? The name sounds vaguely familiar.
Oh man, I love you Johnny. Made me pick up abe sapien.
>>65844259
He's seen briefly at Panya's unwrapping, and he's got a drawer with his name on it in that one guy's place in the first Witchfinder mini.
>>65844259
Yeah in BPRD. He was part of the Brotherhood of Ra that is involved with Panya's backstory
>>65844341
Glad you're enjoying it!
>>65844371
>>65844377
Thanks!
>>65844409
>incoming demon or monster or ogdru hem
>>65844464
Close!
unrelated to the storytime, who likes/watches /co/ live action TV? I marathoned AoS this week, wasn't bad although it could be better. Looking forward to Arrow/Flash. The first episode of Gotham was kinda meh, but it's a pilot so I wasn't expecting too much.
>>65844606
I never really got into AoS, but I'm super pumped for Arrow/Flash. Haven't watched Gotham yet, but I'm not a fan of the whole "HEY YOU GUISE THIS GUY IS RIDDLER GET IT?"
>>65844702
I think the show will be better when they're mostly done introducing characters. It always feels like there's too much going on in a pilot.
>>65839765
This is uncomfortably similar to an Atomic Robo story I've read.
>>65844922
Wish I had the time to read it now!
bump, OP
>>65845028
Reminded me of Atomic Robo a bit at first, but the characters are very different.
>>65845028
I thought the same thing when it came out, but as the story progresses it diverges a lot more.
>>65844702
AoS gets better if you give it time. It's not as good yet as Arrow, but I'm hopeful for this season (of both shows). I'm worried that Flash will have a hard time finding a balance between the silliness of COMICS SCIENCE and a show that I can take seriously.
Last issue!
God some of the scenery in this mini makes me want to go camping. Haven't been in almost a year.
That's all! Probably won't have time to do one tomorrow, but on the bright side there's very little left to actually do! Volume four of Lobster Johnson, 80% of Witchfinder volume three is out, and we can't start Abe's solo series back up again until Guy gets past volume five of BPRD Hell on Earth.
I may do the BPRD Origin stories, not sure if Guy's going to cover that or not.
Thanks for reading everyone!
>>65846455
Thanks Johnny! You, Dan, and Guy have gotten me to really love Hellboy. I'm gonna look into picking up the trades when I get the chance.
>>65847273
check out the library editions
they're supposed to be better but not much more expensive
>>65847273
Same here anon
>>65850422
nicely done fellas
hope they do another Sledgehammer mini soon, have no idea where it's going
Sledgehammer was originally pitched because John Severin wanted to do a WW2 book....but then you know, he died. Latour did a great job though.
>>65842586
>EVEN CHILDREN KILL MEN IN WAR
love that line
