Anyone have spoilers? Is it true the real Shredder gets set up?
>>
>>64377725
>That rating

HA HA HA! I hope this movie bombs.
>>
They had some screenings for viacom employees. Barely attended. They couldn't even get people to go for free. And reviews were activity trying to stay nice. So, not good.
>>
Nothing can ruin my excitement for this movie. And if it's shit oh well it's shit.
>>
>>64377981
Do you want it to bomb or do you want it to suck? You can't have it both ways.
>>
Just as long as it's better than TMNT3. That's all I ask for really.
>>
>>64377981
>93% want to see it
Yeah, total flop.
>>
The real Shredder is in the movie. They just don't bother with his backstory.
Super-Shredder is set up.
>>

>source: my ass
>>
>>64377725

Update your pic, it's down to 22% on my end.
>>
Does anyone have the stats of the turtles from the site?
>>
If you go see this movie and you're over the age of 10, and you're not doing it because your kid wants to see it, you have legitimate autism.
>>
>>64377981

I hope it does really well despite its low rating. That would be funny.

Oh well. At least I have the Nickelodeon cartoon. Love that show.
>>
This movie rocks. Go TMNT
>>
20% and dropping!
>>
>>64380876

Go ninja, go ninja, go!!
>>
Christ. What a rotten week for movies.

Looks like Guardians will be cleaning up for a second week in a row.
>>
>>64379649
Yes you can. Movies can bomb BECAUSE they suck.
>>
>>64380876
Honestly higher than I would have thought going by the trailer.
>>
Lol, they are playing TMNT with Planet of the Apes at my drive in for some reason. I was thinking about going to just see how bad it was if it was playing with GotG, but I don't really like seeing Planet of the Apes again
>>
This movie is being shredded by critics.
>>
>>64380876

that doesnt mean anything after Transformers 4

although i doubt TMNT wont do as good as T4, but i can see it making its money back
>>
If its a hit, we're stuck with this... "vision" from now on.

If it bombs, Viacom loses faith in the franchise, possibly scuttling it.

Great. We're fucked either way.

Place great emphasis on the "dropping" part. We're headed for 'Batman & Robin' territory, hopefully!

Never, in the history of cinema, has a movie's quality held any relation to its box office earnings.

I know I won't be seeing it. I liked the turtles when I was younger, I have since read several of the comics; I like the franchise...but this just doesn't look appealing at all.

Pluto Nash.
>>
So how many people here are actually planning to see it?
>>

My local theatre has tickets for 8 bucks a pop, it doesn't look awful. A way to waste an afternoon.

Yes, I'm sure it will be a financial disaster just like all the bayformers movies. Wait....

Me. I can ignore Megan Fox if the rest is at least passable. Got used to the faces, and unless I'm mistaken they changed it between trailers so they look better. Shredder isn't white. Got no more hang-ups.

There are tons of different versions of TMNT, some better some worse, so how is Bayturtles any different? At worst everyone ignores it exists after the fact like Next Mutation.
>>
>>64381606

Masters of the Universe, Transformers 2, and Transformers 3 could have made that list, if they were comic book movies, that is.
>>
>>64381461

Not in any rush. Probably will though, since my brother and dad both really wanna see it (the former loves the Nick cartoon, the latter to perv over Megan Fox).
>>
>>64381549
>it doesn't look awful

While I respect your opinion and accept that this is what most folks think, I can't help but wish people had a more refined sense of aesthetics.
>>
>>64381669

Funny thing: the MotU movie was based more on the pack-in mini comics than the cartoon.
>>
>>64381461
It seems like they got the personalities of Turtles and Splinter down. That's key.

The faces are eh but the bodies are pure toyetic.

As long as they don't mess with the lore too much, I'm in.
>>
>>64381606

3 of the top 4 worst superhero movies happen to be all of the female-led superhero movies. That's really pathetic.
>>
>>64381606

>>

19% is remarkably awful, RT.
>>
>>64381795
>I think that's being pretty harsh.

Not really - it's the Stallone wisecracking judge dredd movie. Which had great atmosphere and costume jobs (not counting Dredds), but the story sucked hard.
>>
>>64381996
It's IDW minus the Yoshi/Saki hatred.
>>

>>

It's IDW minus the Yoshi and Saki vendetta stuff.
Lab animals that April new before they were mutated etc.

The Yoshi and Saki stuff could still exist in some way, they had a tv spot about ancient legends of the Shredder, but it's not explored in the movie.
>>
>>64381606
Ghost Rider 2 should literally have 0%, worst move I've ever seen.

I get fantasy is a big factor of TMNT, like noir and sci-fi, but that kind of origin is sort of undermining.
>>
>>64382091
>>64382034
Not including Yoshi is like not including Uncle Ben.

I think I can handle it though.

>>64382161
No problems with that.
>>
>>64382190
Yeah, minus the reincarnation.
It's IDW minus the reincarnation. Just mutated lab animals that Shredder wants to destroy because they're disrupting his work with Eric Sachs and TCRI.
>>
No matter how awful this movie is, there will always be some Turtles fans that will eat it right up, just because it has the Ninja Turtles brand name attached to it.

It's going to be Transformers all over again. Except not nearly as successful.

>People seriously expected this to compete with GOTG
>People who argued up and down that Rotten Tomatoes doesn't matter

I mean, what do we even say about this? At what point can everyone in the room just drop what they're doing and shake their heads about how weirdly awful this is? When are we allowed to let reviewers influence our opinion? Is it now? Can we admit that this movie looks fucking awful now, even just going by the trailers, and that the reviews are just backing that up?
>>
Just started watching a video on YouTube with a TMNT ad that begins with "Critics are raving about Ninja Turtles!". I nearly injured myself from rolling my eyes so hard.
>>
>>64382667

NO! Let your nostalgia go and just enjoy it for what it is - a fun movie. Turn off your brain and enjoy something every once in a while. It's based on a toy, what do you expect?

It fucking sucks.

>>
>>64382838
Is this rhetorical?
>>
Why are you self-entitled nerds whining about this movie?

>>
>>64383092
If it bombs people may catch on that Bay can't just take an existing property and make it a CGI 'splosion fest to rake in cash. Ideally this flops and Bay will actually have to start putting in effort when he makes a movie again
>>
If it bombing means no more Ninja Turtles movies ever, that just means no more bad Ninja Turtles movies ever.

If that means no good Ninja Turtles movies ever, so be it.

Putrid, but predicted.

Hopefully the same fate does not occur with Batman/Superman and Justice League.

>>
Welp, not going to pay to see this now.

I'm sorry I doubted you /co/

Yep. The whole film feels like it's geared towards inner city youth from the mid-90's.
>>
>>64383737
As opposed to 80s surfer dudes, what?
>>
There are two outcomes

One is where it does better than guardians and /co/ spams threads about how people have no taste. The other is where is bombs and people spam threads with BTFO and such

Both are annoying but when it comes down to it I would prefer to to bomb/underperform.

>>
>>64382190

I really like reincarnation for Splinter. That mutation triggers his memories of Hamato Yoshi. Which is a nice way of explaining how a rat can know karate. I'm not too big on the actual turtles also being reincarnations of his sons. IDW's biggest mistep.
>>
>>64384128
because it's aside from the notMuhHubbit part it's a blatant cash grab so they could extend the whole thing to three movies.
>>
>>64384151
A lot people get upset at all the extra stuff added in to connect it to LOTR.
>>
>>64384128
I'm a little butthurt about it because they took the shortest book of the 4 books, and turned it into 3 fucking movies.

Sure ok they're cramming all The Silmarillion stuff in there too, but it makes it feel incredibly bloated and isn't even necessary for the Hobbit part of the story.

Ugh. It's just too much for no reason.
>>
>>64383901
>Either that, or the producers are wildly out of touch with reality.

Looking at absolutely all of the design choices for this movie, they're out of touch.
>>
>>64384128
The problem with the Hobbit is that Bilbo and Thorin are the only interesting characters, and all the added stuff is about other people.
>>
>>64384196

the only thing I don't like about the added stuff from The Hobbit is that it seems to distract from Bilbo himself. It doesn't even feel like it has much to do with Bilbo at all much of the time.
>>
>>64384128
Ehh, I don't give a shit about the books, never read them. But the movies on there own weren't very strong.
>>
>>64384196

The problem is that a lot of the extra stuff isn't to connect it to LotR, but to force in other new characters, stories, and drama in order to justify three films. It's random bullshit unconnected to anything.
>>
>>64384128
>>64384151
>>64384196
>>64384221

At least with Man of Steel everyone could tell what they got wrong a mile away, everyone knows Superman.

Not the same for The Hobbit so the retooling feels more insidious.
>>
>>64384269
It doesn't. They worked really hard to make the characters people recognize more important. Gandalf is barely in the original book, for example. In the movies he takes up a third of the screen time.
>>
>>64384221
A lot of it works though. Like Legolas, who wasn't thought of when Tolkien first wrote the book right? Why would the Prince be absent from the kingdom?

The only thing that felt tacked on was Tauriel, and I've gotten over it. But hey man, it's your opinion.
>>
>>64383957
So if someone loves something that's bad- that means we should all hold hands, sing Kumbaya, and give that movie millions of dollars in profits so that one person is satisfied the movie did well? When are we allowed to decide as consumers to not support something we don't like then? Do we have to give the movie money first before we can say we don't like it and don't want others to see it?

Are reviewers not allowed to tell people not to see a movie because some people may enjoy it now? Where does it end?
>>

>nope, turns out you were right and it sucks

Fuck me.
My two favorite major comic book franchises are Superman and TMNT.
It's been a rough couple years.
>>
They were never going to aim for a high denominator the moment Nickelodeon bought 'em.

Just be thankful you got a decent TMNT movie back int he early 90's when somebody still cared.

>still bitching about MoS

Oh shut up. At least his comics are good now. Between Superior, a shitty ASM relaunch, and the atrocities of TASM2, being a spiderfag is suffering. The only highlight is Ultimate Spider-man.

Another negative added.

Back down to 16%.

Someone who reviews food tells people that there's always hair in the food; he tells people to avoid the restaurant that served it. Let's say you visit anyway and don't get hair in your food, but everyone you're with does. The restaurant is still an awful, awful restaurant. It's the reviewer's job to recommend or not recommend things.

Someone who reviews computer parts says that a certain graphics card makes your computer catch fire; he tells people not to buy it. You buy it anyway, your computer doesn't catch fire. Good for you, but it still happened to almost everyone else who bought the graphics card. It's still an awful, awful graphics card. It's the reviewer's job to tell people about these things and recommend or not recommend it.

Someone who reviews movies says the movie was fucking awful; he tells people not to waste their money. You go to the movies anyway and enjoy it, but no one else in the theater does. It's still an awful, awful movie. It's the reviewer's job to tell people how it is, and recommend or not recommend it.

It's the consumer's job to take reviewer recommendations and form their own opinions; it's the reviewer's job to make those recommendations. It's okay to accept the opinion of many- "fire is hot, fire hurts, don't touch it" is fine, you don't need to personally touch fire to find that out.

Mostly because a bunch of the stuff they're throwing in is completely pointless bullshit.

>We need to have a big fight scene with Smaug!
>We need to throw in a stupid love triangle involving this dwarf who dies in the next movie anyway!
>We NEED forty whole minutes of Legolas being amazing, or else we won't get that sweet teenage girl ticket money!
>>
>>64385375
I liked a lot of it, but too much left a bad taste in my mouth. A pointless love triangle, Bilbo's entire scene with Smaug neutered, changing absolutely everything about Bard and the Black Arrow...I'm just not really even interested in the third one anymore.

I saw that exact same ad and cracked up. Any movie that has a review embargo on it until 4 days prior should never use the phrase "critics are raving" in its adverts.
>>
Supergirl is the worst comic book movie according to rotten tomatoes at 8%.

Does TMNT have a shot at taking the title?
>>
>>64385679

I don't think so. I think it ends up somewhere in the 10 percent range. To be worse than Supergirl, it would have to accumulate like, 10 positive reviews total, and it's already got 6.
>>
>>64384288

It's actually mostly from the Silmarillion, most things are not made up.
They probably wanted to, both, make the movie longer, and also build up for the Silmarillion movie itself if the Hobit is popular enough.
>>
The moment they announced the director was Michael Bay, all hopes died.
>>
>>64386177

Michael Bay didn't direct it, though.

lol
>>
>>64383921

most of the reviews I've read have said that the turtles themselves are great in the movie, it's the rest of the movie that sucks ass.
>>
>>64385679

Not a comic book movie, but The Last Airbender is a much worse movie than Supergirl.

Top 20? It's in top 15 now!

It's hard to believe that we finally have a TMNT movie with worse reviews than 3.

Spawn movie is a serious guilty pleasure

The acting, the edge, the puns, the John Leguizamo

Everything is great. And by great I mean terrible, and that's awesome
>>
>>64381606

Most of those movies were bombs.

ditto it's so fucking over the top and how can you not love Ghost Rider taking over the mining excavator. And the fucking twinkie scene gets me laughing every time
>>
>>64383852
The Hobbit was good though.

Much more even and better edited than the overrated LOTR movies.
