Just updated. Also, I made a new background for my blog if you guys want to check it out.

littlebotcomics.tumblr.com
>>
>>78892340
slightly darken and desaturate your backgrounds. makes the characters stand out better-
>>
>>78892403
I darkened the background of the fifth panel for that reason. I don't really think it's needed in panels 2, 3, and 4. The focus of those panels is supposed to be the things behind the bots.
>>
Went to copy store to make a cardstock copy of it, and did gray scale marker stuff on it. Might do more stuff like this in the future, it seen like good "multiply" pass for coloring.
>>
>>78892340
IMO its too loud and draws the eye away from the comic.
Personally I'd remove either the red and blue dots or the eyes, having both seems excessive.

Just officially uploaded page two of AfterDeath to comic fury and Tapastic. Seems most folks would rather have speedy updates while I'm in the introduction portion of the series, so I'll start updating twice a week (Mon/Fri) at the expense of some of the bells and whistles I normally put into my pages.

A link to the series if you wanna follow it: http://tapastic.com/series/AfterDeath

Sell individual chapters?

From the old thread:

> Manga Studio decided to merge all the baloons and ignore the overlapping tails as I rasterized the layer. Kill me now.

Did you have all the balloons on one layer? It's a useful feature in MS that it will combine multiple speech balloon vector shapes on the same layer into a single balloon, but you need to be aware it's going to do that.

I think ideally each individual text unit should be on its own layer, with its own speech balloon attached to that layer.

Note that you can have multiple text blocks on the same layer. Watch the cursor when you go to add a new piece of text; if you're close enough to an existing piece of text, it will have a + on it, and will insert the new text into the same layer as the existing text.
If the cursor has a "sheet of paper with folded corner", then it will put the new text on a new layer.

Crawling progress, still waiting on an inset panel to be scanned and sent over before finishing.

Penciller and I are in disagreement over the water in the first panel here - I'm trying for simple, almost flat colours, and he's pushing for more detail and more of a realistic rendering of an ocean.
Anyone got any thoughts?

>>78896112
They do get scanned altogether but my penciller and I definitely tweak the hell out of the panel layout digitally.

There's a panel here that need flipping for it to be spatially possible, for example (I need to get on with that) and then I'll neaten out the gutters later too.

Very good call. Jagged bubble will be going with the inset panel that's being waited on, which will be a tv screen, so it might change quite a bit to fit that, but yes, you're right, it definitely needs more space with the jags hitting the text like that.

Thanks!

Pic is the colour test I did a while back when trying to figure out the page with some of the penciller's rough sketches - trying for 60s bright colours that they loved on Thunderbirds and Stingray, where everything had to push the boundaries of the new colour tvs.

>>78905454
oh hey it's frog witch! I always liked her
I'm not super fond of the 90 degree angle that the spiral at the end of the hat takes, I think I'd rather see it just go straight and then curl
wasnt expecting the long bristly digitigrade legs either. Kinda unbalanced, possibly too long.. but I'd have to see her in action before making a final judgment
>>
>>78905930
leg hair is fine, especially on something that aint even human (though it's odd seeing it on a frog thing.) but maybe not THAT much busy hair detail in a style that doesn't even have nostrils. I'd like to see just a few hairs along the trailing edge, that way it hints at there being more without your eye being glued there.
fine as frog's hair. aw yeah
>>
>>78905478
About the legs, I probably should have mentioned, she's only standing up here so you can see her properly - the idea was she'd usually go around in a frog stance so the reader would only really notice how huge they were when she stretches them out to jump or kick or something.

>>78906132
>hat
You mean something like on the bottom right? I considered it, but the extra bend feels like it would help her stand out in a lineup of witches.

>>78905930
>>78906132
>>78906201
Yeah, I figured the hairy legs wouldn't be super popular but it's kinda sorta on purpose - like, if her legs are smooth she feels too neat, when she's supposed to give off a bit of a "weirdo mutant freak" vibe, and putting leg hair on an amphibian seemed like it would really drive the point home that she's a freak of nature. (it also fits well with her character's lack of hygiene)

>>78905733
Well for once I can't claim I didn't know about the character beforehand, but in my defense it's really hard to make an appealing frog person without having them look pretty similar.

>>78906201
I see your point about the over-detailing. Gonna see about toning it down a bit.
>>
>>78906929
yeah I assumed as much about the frog legs, but frogs don't go on tiptoe (well they do while totally crawling sometimes)
and their knees don't stick up over their shoulders like that. So I'd still shorten them a little (another fun frog anatomy tip, they have a really long pelvis. i think it looks neat!)
and yeah that other hat is better I think. I'm with you though, being unique is fun.. howbout have the same bend, but a sharper angle, and in the opposite direction? So more like a number 2 attached to her hat?

So begins the greatest story ever told.

How will our heroes survive being... TRAPPED IN THE CHEAP-O MART??

Gonna be doing a story arc where a bunch of characters are stuck in a wallmart analogue for a few weeks. Figured now was as good a time as any to start.

The top two figure's color scheme are very similar. Its hard to make out their individual silhouettes. I suggest using thick outer-lines or some sort of rim lights or color contrast to distinguish them more.

I like the design tho, looking forward to the comic. They look like fun characters.

>sideburns
>boyish
Dewd when you give someone facial hair that's not boyish, that's straight up a masculine male man.

I think >>78923939 is giving you very good advice here - The feeling I get from your work is that you're churning these pages out at a speed where you're not really capable of stepping back, taking a deep breath and going "okay, how do I make this better" because the second you get something that kind of works, you're already moving on to the next page. That moment of reflection is the key to getting better. I think it would be a very good idea to work that into your schedule once you're done with your break (that doesn't necessarily mean "update less" - just having a buffer and working on several pages at once would give you a huge benefit).

>>78898915
>legally dead
Clinically dead. You need a doctor to declare someone legally dead (laypeople can "assume" that someone's dead, and have it recognized legally, but that's only in really obvious cases like "I found this severed head, I'm pretty sure he's dead".) /pedant

>>78924080

>>
>>78925516
He's also making pages so fast it's obvious he's not doing quality control checks on them either, leading to multiple errors on nearly every page.
>>
>>78925516
I do not even know how I would even start to work on multiple pages at once...

Would that mean, like, doing all of the line art and then doing all the color or something?

Also about the side burns, I'm sticking with it because I think it looks cute.

Also, I do usually take breaks in between pages then check them later to see if there are any errors.

I'm with Dewd on this one actually - lots of women have sideburns, though it is more common in non-caucasians. So it fits with Annabeth's appearance. You probably don't realize how many women naturally have sideburns because we get rid of them after being told we shouldn't.
>>
>>78921252
>Looks great! I dunno why, I keep thinking Megaman.

Megaman was a great part of my youth, so I don't think it's an coincidence, though I didn't plan for it to be like this specifically.

>>78922238
Yeah, that's what I said about recolouring one of 'em. I'm looking into it now to see what colour should I use for the top one. By the way, love how you made a panel out of an onomatopoeia.

>>78924080

>>

>>
>>78920465

>>
>>78925688
Let's say you're updating daily.
>day 1: do the layout and sketch for page 1
>day 2: layout and sketch page 2, ink page 1
>day 3: layout and sketch page 3, ink page 2, color page 1
>ad infinitum

As opposed to doing all of page 1 on day one, this gives you three days of looking at each page and being able to go "hey, this would work better if I did this other thing instead". Doing it before you get too far in the process means you're in a much better position to actually fix things.

>>78925796
Didn't know that bit of hair was considered sideburns. Still, the ones AB's sporting seems waay too masculine to belong to a woman.
>>
>>78924024
HOW is that shitposting.

That is remarkable advice.
>>
>>78926155
I guess I can try that next chapter.

But I often get hasty and work on the next page (because I have too much free time and get bored easily) what do I do then? And I'm also worried that I'll forget to do a page until it's too late because that's how forgetful I am.

Also, I guess I can tone down the hair a little bit on the sideburns.
>>
>>78926181
Any post I don't like is shitposting. That's the way it works.
>>
>>78926272
If you've got extra time you don't know what to do with, I'd suggest sketching more pages so you have even more time to think of how to improve them or (and this is the part where I find I really improve) redrawing pages you've already sketched out - like Cleese sez up in that video that never gets linked right, your second idea is usually better than your first. Or you can do some serious studyin' on your problem areas or just go enjoy your free time.

As to forgetting, get a calendar and have it remind you.
>>
>>78926473
I'll think about this. I'm not sure if I want to do this, just thinking about this system stresses me out honestly, and to be honest, sometimes there are pages that aren't sketched out and I just go straight to line art.

Also, there's that expression, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And im already like 20 pages ahead with my current system.

And I like pretty much all the pages of the current chapter and nothing that I wish I could have done different.

But as I said before, I'll think about it.
>>
>>78923939
Well anon, you're fooling only yourself if you really believe that you're going to improve at all while you "take time off from art". Take a break all you want, but your art isn't going to magically get better and you're not going to be gaining "introspect". You'll be like all those kids who browse Tumblr or Deviantart all day believing that they're actually improving their drawing skills by doing nothing but look at other people's art all day long.

Good luck. Don't be disappointed when you come back and find yourself in the same spot you were when you left.

It's taking a break from constantly doing the same bloody thing over and over.

The problem with sketchy stuff is that once you get more than a few elements in a shot it rapidly becomes really hard to make sense of. I'd suggest at least getting rid of totally superfluous lines like the part of her head that's under her hair, though.

Don't let him change the subject, anon. He was trying to argue that Dewd doesn't improve, and then when you posted evidence to the contrary he just tries to weasel out of it like a huge pussy.

No, YOU'RE him.

This is some straight up "The Thing" shit here, we need flamethrowers on the double... or... is he a triple agent?

you'd think a guy who sees his wife and his favorite superhero disappear would be able to put it together

Freckles or no freckles? I'm trying to make Maude cute, but maybe not over the top cute.

I'll never understand why these threads are always so focused on Dewd. His comic isn't anything special, the writing and art are very mediocre.

I've been popping in and out rarely over the course of the last year. And finally I've started writing shit out, having a writefag friend help out. Took me a while to find one that wasn't trying to turn my idea into their idea.
I'm gonna go over and redesign these two to be better/more unique. Kind of hard to figure out what a fist wizard would wear.

Because you know who thinks Dewd is the next guy up on the totem pole and is trying to drag him down.

first time in months that I've been able to sit down and draw for a little. New job is pretty tough and makes it hard to find time for anything except sleeping and eating nowadays

>tfw the holidays funk you down and you don't touch a pencil for 3 weeks
I was in such a good mood art-wise all year long but December just killed me for some reason. Now I'm trying to pick up drawing again and it feels like dragging a boulder up a mountain.

Might be all that holiday food. Take some vitamin C and go for a walk to get that blood pumpin.

This looks pretty kick ass so far. Keep it up.

I'll play around with that idea when I get home. Just got out of work and I'm currently warming up my car before I take off. Will upload more Maude. I'm currently in the mood to draw more of her to help loosen my hand.

nice to see you again! last i remember you were redesigning them and I was disappoint in some of the choices for the girl (you were gonna lop off that perfect nose!)
as for a fist wizard's clothes... yeah something beyond overalls. Maybe a baldrick with amulets on it. Maybe a caplet (that shoulder thingy sherlock holmes has attached to his coat, but without the long coat). definitely a big ol' belt with a big ol' belt buckle.. and some gauntlets are a must.

not sure if I'm digging the beatbox

the flashing is kind of out of place

but I think I'll get used to it

If I might implore on ya for one more reconsideration, what if it's just little locks of hair, not necessarily attached. that way it's more ambiggs
>>
>>78923926
You probably think that they don't have body hair either, do you?
>>
>>78938178
having some hairs on the side of your face isnt the same as having full thick sideburns with a flat edge at the bottom

Need some help coming up with a title for my comic.
