Pure flashback episode. The "rebellion" at the time is composed of just some lowly worker gems/outcasts and doesn't have Rose spearheading it yet.
The war was said to start 5,500 years ago, so this flashback is still 250 years before it got serious.
>Steven's Birthday
Everyone takes the day off to do Steven's Birthday. Peridot is upset by this because there's more important shit to be worrying about. Some interaction with her most likely pushes steven into growing up a bit physically and mentally.
Besides that, everything looks super comfy.
>It Could've Been Great
The gems for some reason need to go to the moon, likely the night after the party. They all ride lion down the hill to gain speed, then warp there with the roar (calling back to the "rocket" greg made).
Who knows what the fuck happens there as none of it was in the trailer. Most likely, however, they find that device/gem Pearl is holding.
>Message Recieved
The device relays a message to them from Yellow Diamond to Peridot. It does this out in the open where everyone can see, then they look back and Peridot is gone.
She busts out in the mech and flees after throwing the truck. Not sure if she gets away, but seems likely.

Aftermath of Peridot's betrayal. The gems trying to figure shit out while steven finds Peridot's log and listens to the things she had been saying/thinking and how she was becoming close to them before all this shit happened.

I just can't see them completely dropping the redemption thing. Not only does it cheapen Peridot's character, it ruins a great chance to showing that Steven's problem solving methods (showing compassion, understanding, and patience rather than just trying to beat the shit out of everything) are a viable solution. Steven's actions towards Peridot in Catch and Release and When It Rains where some of my favorites in the entire series and really highlighted his philosophy.

I think that Steven will picture the Rubies and Sapphires in the flashback with details, but everything else will be in silhouette because he doesn't know about them. The fact that the Rubies all look the same might not even be how they really look, so much as how Steven would assume them to look. If this is true, we might even see some as-of-yet revealed gems in silhouette.
Case in point, the structure shown in the initial preview is pretty clearly obscured by shadows at the very least.
