It's pretty simple really: MCU makes billions of dollars and comics make jack shit so they made comics into monthly 20 page advertisements for MCU.
If they had any sense of scope or basic understanding of a sustainable business model they would funnel the success of the MCU into the comics by showing new readers turned on by the MCU that comics can go FARTHER and have a bigger scope and crazier ideas and legacy characters with a rich history. This would require actually taking a risk with comics and hiring better talent and the assumption that all of these decisions aren't made by corporate brained Disney suits without a creative bone in their body who are keeping their jobs regardless whether Marvel Comics fails or succeeds.

I was a fan of Axel Alonso's while he was at DC/Vertigo. When he jumped to Marvel, I was a bit sad, thinking he would not be able to use his apparently strong eye for sophisticated, more mature stories he could foster from his talent pool. However, he seemed to do just fine editing the books he had under his purview. When he took over as E-i-C for Marvel, I thought this would usher in a more sophisticated era for Marvel storytelling. After Marvel NOW and reading the post-Secret Wars books, I just don't see too many good books. As the E-i-C, I personally blame Axel Alonso for this disappointing lot of monthlies. Is this a fair assessment? Is it really his fault? Does he have as much control as Quesada did?
