Storylines that are definitive of either Superman, any of his supporting cast, or villains.

>All-Star
>Birthright
>All Seasons
>Kryptonite by Darwyn Cooke
>Secret Origin
>Morrison's AC run
>Johns' AC run
>Kelly's AC run
>Pak's AC run
>The Man of Steel by Pedo Byrne
>Godfall
>Up, Up, and Away
>Moore's work
>Our Worlds at War
>Hitman #34
Are all already on my list.

Also, Merry Christmas, /co/.
>>
Busiek's run after Up, Up, and Away was pretty good, at least on par with Kelly's if that's the standard. Add in Secret Identity too for that matter.

There's this story where Superman and Lex go on another planet where the populace ends up hailing Lex as a Hero, it's pretty interesting and has a great ending. Can't recall the title though. I know it has this fight though.

Also pretty much anything from the Curt Swan days, but Especially the Double or Nothing Life arc, think it started with "Clark Kent Forever, Superman Never." Or the issue before that. I really like this particular story because it shows a more vulnerable side to the man of steel, when the stress of being Superman 24/7 drive him to tears.

I disliked this. I felt his epiphany at the end was extremely forced. It just felt like he learned nothing throughout the book. Liked its experimentation though.
>>
I'll second Birthright, All-Star and Moore's shit (especially For the Man Who Has Everything)

Everything Byrne has written on Superman is great. Lex Luthor: Man of Steel, Lex Luthor the unofficial biography, President Lex, Superman's pal Jimmy Olsen, Nick Spencer's short Jimmy Olsen arc for Supes related works. Multiversity Mastermen is one no one mentions.

because the art is disgusting

Multiversity in general was a great book if you wanted to read Superman. It's not exactly focused on just Superman per se, but alternate versions of Superman and such are everywhere, and par for the course for Morrison's writing, he's spot on when it comes to Superman.

In fact, Final Crisis is a great Superman book as well, especially the Superman Beyond tie-in, which is just pure Superman goodness and one of the best Superman stories ever, almost being like a couple of lost All Star Superman issues.

Honestly I don't really like much of Final Crisis but Superman Beyond is amazing. It's good enough on its own.
