ITT: Character with missed potential

Miles Morales.

>>78342722
More like all of Gravity Falls. I watched the show on the recommendations of the internet, and it was hit or miss. The episodes that actually focused on furthering the overall story and mystery of the show were great. Problem was that it seemed like only 1 out of every 3 episodes advanced the main plot at all. Most episodes were typical Saturday morning kids cartoons with nothing unique about them. There was so much filler it was ridiculous, what makes it worse is that they could have expanded on the story so much, but instead they had to throw in multiple episodes about Mable or Dipper having a crush. Kind of annoyed we're never getting a third season and so much untapped potential will never happen.
>>
>>78343592
You were expecting too much from a disney show that was constantly on hiatus
>>
Literally most if not all of the MCU villains with the exception of the TV villains.
>>
>>78343592
The Pacifica/Northwest party episode is honestly my favorite of the non plot episodes
>>
>>78342722
Pretty much every character in LoK. Especially the villains.

I really agree, I'm not surprised since it's just a Disney kiddie show, it's just kind of too bad. I got so bored with "Dipper spills spaghetti around Wendy" and "Mabel's dumb crush of the week" bullshit. Although one of my favorite episodes of the show was the Pacifica party episode definitely. Speaking of which...

I'll throw in Pacifica and Bill as characters with missed potential along with Ford. Pacifica stumbled on a great little character growth arc that they never really cashed in on since she totally disappeared right afterwards, I don't think the writers ever liked her. Bill often felt really unique and out there but lately devolved into being a typical Saturday morning cartoon show bad guy instead of taking more advantage of the surreal/mindfuck bits.

No surprise just feels like there was a more interesting show trying to get out.
>>
>>78343771
It had great horror/mystery elements (contrary to wierdmageddon that isn't scary, shame), plus character development, mable and dipper not bickering over pebbles constantly, and potential OTP.
My favorite too, alongside the one with the elderly ghosts, and the one with the doppleganger.
>>
Why did they actively refuse to give him any sort of development?
>>
>>78344467
The same reason bugs bunny doesn't get any development

SUG GTFO
>>
>>78344639
At least Bugs Bunny has a defined personality.
>>
>>78344720
It's not bad, it just seems like they didn't learn anything from season 1. They ALMOST got rid of the horrible "Dipper has a crush on Wendy" subplot that took up almost half of season 1, but then they brought it back towards the end of season 2. Season 1's main problems were it didn't advance the story too much, too much teen romance bullshit, too many filler episodes, etc. Season 2 has the exact same problems.

are episodes that advance the main plot inherently better?

I feel the same
Filler is alright as long as it still expands the characters realistically
Though after that pacifica dropped off the face of the earth so that character development is for nothing

>>78345486
not him, but the episodes with more plot to them felt more original
The other episodes could have been from any show, but the plot centric ones are distinctly GF

She could have been awesome and maybe still will be, but the current love interest plot and painfully over the top Mary Sue status just crushes any intrigue I might've had.
>>
>>78346204
They've already established that Dominator has absolutely no romantic interest in Hater and is just using him as a means to an end
>>

This.
>>
>>78344467
It's not that kind of show, anon. It's a screwball comedy.
>>
>>78346204
>She could have been awesome
I don't really see how.
>>
>>78344422
I don't think the writers intended to have the events of Weirdmageddon be scary. It's more along the lines of shock value in that they want to see how much of a reaction they'll get from audiences.

Well, it's supposed to be the apocalypse brought by an evil dream-invading demon, with eldricht dimension invading our reality, and all we've got is a fucking carnival. I'm a bit disappointed. Especially considering that the rest of Bill's powers is right into the scary territory since the beginning (even Mabel space, being made of maggots and other horrors).

I wanted to see people clutch to their sanity and fight their inner demons, maybe even a bit of body horror like in some previous episodes, not post-apoc. biker gangs and mabel throwing a fit because "my safe zone is better than the real world and no I don't want to help you I'm completely egocentrical".
I feel like this event was handled poorly.
>>
>>78347064
>I wanted to see people clutch to their sanity and fight their inner demons

THIS

I WANT A BREAKDOWN

But nope, we're gonna see Dipper find strength in himself despite all odds against him, and Mabel probably summon some lolrandom garbage to defeat bill with the power of friendship etc etc

Unless they completely 180 from the last two episodes, I have zero expectations of a satisfying outcome

>wahh it's a kid's show you expected too much

Then they shouldn't have egged us into believing it would be more than it is
>>
>>78342722
I think his potential was missed because he never had enough episodes, and I think this is where the issue of the hiatuses settles in. Heck Weirdmageddon, while interesting, felt like it came in too quick for me.

On the plus side, we may have a Dipper-Pacifica reunion.

For me Bill was the most disappointing. Waiting for so long to see what he was all about and in the end he was just the "take over the world" type villain.

The fact that his "most diabolical trap ever" was broken by the willpower of a child should tell you it's too late. I wanna see some shit go down, not watch Bill and his pals throw a fucking party.
>>

I'm expecting Bill to completely lose his cool and go full DBZ villian on us.
>>
>>78350643
>I wanna see some shit go down, not watch Bill and his pals throw a fucking party.

The end of Dipper and mabel vs the Future with Bill was really really great and creepy and then there were a few great moments in the beginning of Weird 1 like blowing up the church, taking Ford out, and burning the journals (oh the the Time Baby thing) where he was fucking scary and then for FOUR FUCKING DAYS he sits on his ass doing absolutely fucking nothing while his minions bop around wearing little party hats. Biggest villain cocktease/boner killer ever.

The overall story was always weak. But it was a great mix of humour and horror themes.
>>
>>78347408

It felt like they didn't really know how his character should act, and the episodes with him were just throwing darts at a board trying to find what would stick.

Yeah weirdmageddon did come up way too quick. All the episodes between a tale of two stans and weirdmageddon had a strong filler feel to them.
>>
Once we found out what he was, he didn't really have much potential, personality-wise.
>>
>>78347408
Same
too many decent episodes about shit no one cares about (Last Mabelcorn, Roadside attraction, little gift shop of horrors)
Replace those with episodes about the Stans and I think we would have been better off

>>
>>78351819
He should have just been a version of what dipper wanted to be when he grew up, and Dipper grows to see that he needs to become his own man by admiring what is good about Ford and Stan but learning from their mistakes.
>>
>>78352155
Wendy is such a fucking mystery to me. She shows up in the intro but is barely in the show itself. She only helped out on a mystery two or tree out of two seasons, and suddenly she has a role in the finale. Sort of.

Pic somewhat related. He shows up in the s2 intro but is not even part of the adventure and they fucking add three more characters to the BoT.
>>
>>78352364
She's mostly a straight man on the team, but the character dynamics doesn't really need one.

It seems to me like we could construct her a somewhat interesting personality from the part she appears, but Hirsch never seemed to bother. With anything, really. I hate to admit, but his arc and character plotting was always weak. And it's not really what I loved in this show anyway.

This.
They really needed an episode focusing on Wendy, ending with a "enjoy being a kid while you can" speech to Dipper. We could have had her headlock-punching a monster with her 3 brothers cheering her on the way they did for her Dad.
Moving her to the background after Into The Bunker sucked, and I wonder if it's because her VA was off being in Age of Ultron.

On purpose or not, she was written as needy pushover clinging to a few people willing to spend time with her.

All the future episodes with the same tired, boring, exhausted joke from Lisa's Wedding that she doesn't ever talk...ruins any chance they have of developing her as a character.

Ford's meant to be a traditional tragic hero, having the goal to change the world and failing miserably.

As a result, he hardly trusts anyone.
>>
I like how Stans' relationship parallels Mabel and Dipper. I just wish Dipper would dump his leech of a sibling like Ford did.
