I've sent in the original already (its going to be printed) so I'd leave it as it is anyway. I tend to lean towards desaturated colors because bright colors give me a headache but I figured I'd try it anyway.

Fourth character, a guy for a change. I'm kinda sad about it but I can't draw girls only can I.

David's calm and cool (if not somewhat cold) demeanor make him not stand out much despite his considerable posture. He's pretty serious about everything he does; it just happened that he didn't have much luck with magic potential, so he's more of a stand-in coach than a fighter.

The one problem I have with David is how do I make him interesting, his mullet aside. I know more or less what role he'll be playing, but I'm not sure if I'll manage to make him more than just an extra and a useful plot device. I'll have to tackle it when I start writing a detailed script, during Christmas most likely.

He's supposed to be pretty muscular. Not a bodybuilder, but a guy for whom you need only one look to tell he's working out. I'm having a lot of trouble with his hair, I still didn't figure out how to keep his current haircut while making it look less cartoony. Pictured with Keira (posted yesterday), total of 14 inches height difference.
>>
>>78273900
sweet mullet. he totally looks like a guy, and a handsome one.. if slightly piggyfaced, but only slightly. You should practice bigger more robust noses with stronger nosebridges on other guys. But this guy? we all knew a guy that looked like this guy.
btw nice under-chin shot on the girl holy shit. you're the only person i know that's better at that shot than a profile shot.
it's okay if you dont have a character idea yet, you're just drawing people. you'll think up ideas later. like "ha what if someone was the kinda guy who tells jokes poorly" or something.
you seem to be doing a fine job with the hair.. and the ears for that matter, so i don't see what the problem is. it doesn't look cartoony (imo not exaggerated enough. i mean hair can do anything)
as for muscles he looks merely mediumbeefy. you cuold try enlarging and widening the shoulders a bit
>>
>>78273900
he looks pretty young for a 48 year old

I'm having a hard time telling what are genders of the characters. The fat guy is a guy, that one other who's been appearing the least is a guy too, but the other two look a whole lot like ugly girls. The cheek tumors you draw don't help either.

The story is such that I don't know where you're taking this. The insecurity, the band, the road trip, I get it, but the pace and focus are weird at times. It all feels like some kind of a dream, I can't imagine the fat guy hitting the road, I can't image him going with the weirdo that his self-proclaimed best friend is, I can't imagine them having a band. It's strange but maybe it will work out in the end. Link the whole thing again when you finish it all, please.

coloring this now, once this chapter of FATES is done im merging it with TRUE SAGA

so the FATES webcomic host site and its main mega website will be deleted and all content added to TRUE SAGA webcomic host site and mega website

oh shit and each one has its own sub reddit to, will also merge those together as well!

PASTEBIN OF ALL 6 FATES & TRUE SAGA SITES THAT WILL MERGE INTO JUST 2 MEGA WEBSITES: http://pastebin.com/PV0LjJfH

will also merge folders on deviant art, having over 4 separate projects is ridiculous and unnecessary, especially when DEMON JUICE and HAIR AND SOLE both take place in the same world and instead of having FATES take place on NIBIRUS moon i can just add the continent to NIBIRU and problem solved!

Fairune will become the new main character of the newly merged project I will probably rename into FATES SAGA

or FATES TRUE SAGA, i havent decided on what the new name will be but all the main characters of TRUE SAGA will become side characters and the main plot of TRUE SAGA will become a subplot that will evolve into the main plot of the merged fused together stories!

why make FAIRUNE the main character of the currently two separate projects?? Because blonde hair cowgirls are fucking awesome!!!!! its the being born and raised in Texas U-S-fucking-A i guess, lol

Not necessarily. As long as the song fits the character, or is something that the character would be inclined to like, it fits. If it so happens to be something the author also likes, then so be it. Obviously, there are very unfitting songs for various types of characters.

Mizu almost certainly rocks out to Initial D type metal while practicing swordery
Robin has no concept of genre and listens to anything upbeat. She has no idea there is anything else to Lola
Sasha probably goes to chill thumping 80s headbangery concerts played by goblins. kinda Big Pig style
Kimchi sticks with super melodic videogame soundtracks and TMBG stuff

I know many English speaking readers from USA, EU, and Australia have issues with the way certain characters are portrayed. Say my character is in her 20s. Her story, her personality, obviously she is an adult. However, she has a petite build. When I see characters like this wearing revaling clothing, I often see many readers from the previously mentioned states attacking the artists for drawing an adult who may not have a typically "Adult" body in adult clothing. I also have a character who in my country is of age of consent, however I believe 18 is the adult age in many Western countries. She also wears adult clothing. The clothing I draw is not pornographic. It fashionable, I think. However, I think many of the characters Western readers attack are also fashionable, so I am worried. It would not be difficult for me to edit the clothing upon releasing the comic in English. My question is, should I censor my comic? Is this something I should even be considering? To translate a whole comic into my second language is a lot of time and work. I would love to do this if it would make people happy, but if I was to be attacked, I do not think I would like to release my comic in English any more. Sorry for my length in post.

You're likely to be attacked about it regardless of what countries you release it in, if it gains any popularity.

You're better off releasing it to as many places as possible and just keeping a thick skin.

Much of the Western world, particularly that of the American variety live in a part of the world that is geographically isolated from most of the rest of the world, save for its neighbors Canada and Mexico.
With that in mind, Americans often times consider that their paradigm, or the way they see the world, is the only way there is to see the world. Unlike in most European countries where they have spent centuries adjusting to eachother's cultures.

With that little anthropology lesson out of the way, keep in mind that your art is your own expression. Your expression can reflect your cultural values, that is not to say that you and your work are synonymous with your culture, but rather, are often seen as more acceptable.

At the end of the day, don't let yourself be censored by anyone. The moment you do that, is the moment you no longer create for yourself, but for others.

Your English is good by the way, I hope my English came through clearly.

like 90 percent that
and 10 percent like, banning an -image- of a crime is kinda retarded. We don't do that for any other crimes. If anything use the image to bust the people doing it. Bust the guy in front of the camera, not behind it. if there is no guy, then there's probably nothing illegal going on.
it's like busting drug users instead of dealers, or johns instead of prostitutes.. or prostitutes instead of johns. or whatever.
Or like France making it illegal to film happy slapping. legislators only do shit like this because it's easier than actually making a difference, and they can take credit for 'fighting crime'

classic space cops, showing up when it's too late, only to bust the good guy. just like in school.
heh, I like that gesture slowly shifting. I assume they don't actually, like, hack into your video system and demand you put your hands up.. it was just reflex right?
also neat the police lights in space are different.. though they don't quite seem consistent, but it's hard to tell with all that gas. Or do they cycle like one of those things you get from spencer's?

oh that makes sense. especially if people are using visuals a lot and not a standardized form of scanning.

good for you. get back on that horse
>dialogue
I assume Bones should be capitalized. Otherwise it works fine
>speech bubbles
firstly you need more room around the words, especially bottom center panel. secondly I don't see the point in messy smudges around dialogue balloons that I guess are absent in singing balloons.. but maybe that's a thing. Like making capitalizing singing balloons is. but the music note is covering up part of the lyrics, you don't want that.
You also don't really want a progression of lyrics to be moving up and to the right.. though I realize you didn't wanna cover that lovely chandelier. It's not really bad, just not quite right.
if someone is interrupting someone, it's better and more fun to have their balloon actually overlap the one they're interrupting. try it!
text size is fine.. though it's a very.. how do you say, deferential font. Everyone looks extremely gentle when they use it. like an e-mail from gramma.

I have some other suggestions on your art though. I mean obviously it's kinda loose and I'm sure you're still working on it, and I can overlook stuff like the direction of the wrppings being inconsistent , but the characters seem to have a lot of lines on them that do nothing, and the first panel is almost all nearly the same (quite dark) shade of gray, which is sad because you drew in all this cool interesting shit we should be getting a good look at. I'd say up the contrast, use lighter grays
>>
>>78285552
Woah, holy artifacts. Anon, are you saving in the right image quality? That was a rhetorical question. I need you to start saving in the right format. You're putting all of this effort into a page, it's a shame to see it with all of these artifacts.

As for the speech bubbles, either up the size of the bubble or down the size of the font. The font the song is in looks great. I'd recommend using that font instead of your current one, but that's a purely artistic choice. Right now the biggest problem is the size of the font and the bubbles are not proportional.

It made me laugh at least. I liked it.

>different font

no seriously I can't believe you have a cintiq. that is amazing. but does it not have some kind of calibration so you can make it the same as a normal monitor?
also btw in the process of telling myself

I noticed the candle on the table has rrl bad perspective, so just one more thing to fix. Start with the plane of the table as your guide (not that it's perfect but whatever fuckit) and make the circle match that plane. then make another circle of the same orientation, smaller, below it for the bottom. then do your lovely crisscrossies so they match, that should be doable.

I need name help. I have two potential first names: one would be the name, the other would be a held title. There's Fay'd (pronounced Fai-eed, with the 'd' sound being very soft) and Rah've (pronounced Rah-hay). Last name is Alfercion (pronounced Al-Fay-cei-on). So which sounds better: Fay'd Alfercion or Rah've Alfercion
>>
>>78286110
hoo boy
anon can you maybe explain your name selection process? and the fundamentals of the orthography your fictional language uses? and why you made it that way? I feel like we would get to the root of the issue by you answering that
>>
>>78286281
The main problem with that is I'm essentially working backwards. The sounds just hit me and now I have to retroactively have them make sense. So in short, there is no orthography at the moment.
>>
>>78286324
This being said, the idea that hit me with Fay'd is that it's an ancient name that has become a general term, kind of like Benedict Arnold, but not negative like that. Closest English word I can equate it to is judge, but it also implies balance and correcting past mistakes. So that would probably be the given title. Sorry I didn't remember that at first; none of this is written down and details come in and out.

Here's a couple of mine, for different stories.

Throughout the whole story, the good guys think they're doing the right thing. But, it turns out they were being manipulated by the "good forces" they were helping. The bad guys were trying to prevent them from doing something that could potentially enslave or exterminate the human race.

One of the main characters has to kill the younger companion of the group at the end.

This month shows the effects of my advertising discontinuation. My advertising was a trickle for the first week or so, and after that it's been totally stopped.

I'm comparing this month's performance so far to September, when the comic officially launched and there was zero advertising, to more or less show the net increase in readers after my advertising campaign finished. I'll probably do some more advertising after issue 2 is finished.

Looking good. Definitely up from the beginning but that's to be expected.

What do you advertise through? I would recommend Project Wonderful. I'm doing a cheap bidding campaign where it autobids 1 cent and for 3 dollars over the course of 1 week I've gotten 138 views. That's pretty good considering the limitations of where I can advertise. When I was really splurging I was raking in hundreds of views a day. Had to stop that and I'm okay with the way it is.

Also, maybe think about posting the old pages on Comic Fury and have a link to your site on each page and mention it. That's tapping into another market.

I've also been reading about doing so on reddit. And I post announcements on tumblr and tag my stuff.

I'll be posting mine in a bit.

>>
>>78292272

I only spent the amount of money I spent because of my job's Christmas bonus. The campaigns are nice and I admit that I have spent too much time looking at the rate of money I make from my ads as well as how many clicks I get from advertising as well as the cost per click that is also shown. I refresh my account overview every 10 - 15 minutes.

Right now I'm exploring free methods of advertisement. I did a bit of SEO but that stuff is tedious and boring so I'll have to come back to that later.

Alright stats time! As always, from top to bottom:

>main site
>deviants
>super sexy

So, this looks bad at first glance but those massive spikes are when I advertised out the ass. Then things died down as I lessened advertising. The last two weeks are me without spending more than 50 cents on advertising a day. Also my artist for Deviants normally posts a link on update days on her facebook page. However she's forgotten a couple times. Last week was one of them.

But that's okay because the turnout was good. And the /ss/ interest grows each week. Shame because I'm cancelling Super Sexy but relaunching it as something else. It's for the best.

But my stuff is getting reblogged on tumblr. There's still growth and the decline is mostly because I'm not spending any actual money promoting the comic.

Several written stories that will probably never be drawn:
-X was actually evil and it was all according to their plan.
-X lost the dance battle but Y wins the next one because their signature song hinted at throughout the story is played.
-The assassin was a time traveler sent to fix the future destroyed by a main character's actions.
-Everything was set to loop because aliens are coming to fuck shit up, X was really a bad guy, knowing this Y loops everything again.
-X was the anti-christ.

That still looks pretty good, though. Some of the lines might be a little too blurred, but I think what's really working for you here are the varied line weights and the color variance in the lines, rather than having them all pitch black and the same thickness. I like the shading as well.

Perhaps try reducing the smudge a little and doing an entire page in this style? It could turn out pretty nice.

I'd also suggest switching fonts in your dialogue. Something simpler, more streamlined would be a strong choice.

You should never look at someone's art and say "this person is not doing (exercise) or following (rule)"
instead it's best to say "it would help your art if you did/brushed up on"

I actually think they're too goodygood now. In the old days they were scouring the land for hookers and booze. I guess now that I'm not a teenager I just don't find that as amusing. or maybe because most of the cast is girls

The art looks pretty consistent and I like the details. However, pay attention to paneling. Panels 1 and 4 are now the largest, while they're not as important as the other panels. Panel 3 is what interests the reader the most and panel 4 compliments this info. "Where we are, what's this setting?" Panel 5 tells us that something big is happening, so it could be larger.

You made panel 1 the biggest, but the readers area just gonna skim over it since there's not much going on in there compared to panel 2. Panel 4 shows us the MC, that she's worried and that she's in cuffs. This info can be conveyed with smaller panel. You're showing off her body, yet there's not much to see as we already know her and she's not making any specific pose.

Keep rethinking and playing around with the panels. But I must say, this looks pretty promising.

I should probably mention however, that the reason the piece isn't filling out all the page is because its being created for print.
If you take a look at my work space here, the area outside of that blue line is called the "gutter," which is the part of the paper which is likely to be omitted during the printing process. The size of panel one may be throwing you off because it is so large compared to the rest of the panels, but that is solely for the purpose of setting up the establishing shot and eliminating the borders set by a panel so that the reader can feel immersed in the world being presented.
True, there isn't a lot of stuff there, but I feel that it does accomplish the purpose of telling us that the scene has changed from the previous one, and that we are on a different planet.
>>
>>78300363
i've never understood why they can't just print things exactly as they are. why do they need 'extra' space? it's not as if the printing process is unpredictable and you have to leave that space 'just in case' right? surely not in this day and age.. it's precise.

In printing, the space where the two pages come together into the binding crease together. In fact, there is a certain point in the paper that completely disappears because the pages are bound together.

The Crease is where the page is completely unseen
The Margin is the space between the content and the crease. There is often times space between them for aesthetic purposes.

Despite our technological advances, printing machines are not psychic and don't know where we want the page to stop and where we want it to end, to a printer, its all just black and white information. (Literally)

Hope this helps.
>>
>>78300733
yeah the crease i get, but surely that only requires one side of each page to have space left. The rest could run right up to the edge without problem
i guess you'd wanna do it on both sides of every page just so you didn't have to redo the files when you add one page, you never know if page 1 is going to be an inny or an outty til it's done I suppose... but it shouldnt need entire margins

This is a good exercise and we going to rip our characters out of their story and let other artists remake them. Like...

>Post their design
>Post their origins
>Post their personality.
>>
>>78300867
Thats true, but often times in the business theres so much need for edits and revisions, adding and omitting different pages, so on and so forth. Keeping both sides makes the whole process much easier in the long run. Go grab one of your mangas (Don't lie, you have at least one) Notice how the page on the inside seem to have little to no margin, while the outside has more.
Not all of course, some manga artists go into painstaking foresight and detail to expand on the outside of the page. Japanese artists are crazy awesome like that.

telephone game with vague descriptions? that could be fun if we were all strangers.
