So what does /co/ think of the new Muppets reboot? Is it worth checking out?
>>77780399
It's hardly a reboot, anon (being anal here for the sake of it) all Muppets movies exists 'canonically' as real events within the Muppets' world and films within the Muppets' world.
The Muppets Movie is simultaneously what happened to Kermit as he became a hollywood star and a retelling of those events. Several other films pull the same gimmick. In fact, the new show may be following this premise: while it doesn't 'count', the pilot pulls the trick of being both an explanation for the upcoming mockumentary-style show and being one itself; I'm still waiting to see if the new show will do something similar.
Muppets autism out of the way, it's really fun. The first few episodes felt strong, then it seemed to lose focus until episode 6. Since then, it's been a very excellent look at the Muppets post-stardom.
>>77780399
It's bland, The Office format has gotten overused and tired as fuck. It's circling the cancellation drain unless things change soon.
>>77780637
It was brought up to a 16-episode season and airs twice a week. How's that cancellation?
>>77780554
Gonzo specifically mentions the number of shows and movies they made
So i guess most of the movies are canon and others like Treasure Island were movies made staring the muppets
>>77780657
It's literally a 30 Rock/Parks Rec clone with the Muppets pasted on top.

Yet has better storylines.
I love it
The jokes are good, they make me laugh.
Could do without the forced celebrity in every episode though
>>77780762
>celebrity in every episode
that's a callback to the original muppet show

“The Muppets” are in turmoil.
Just a week after ABC gave the new comedy three more episodes -- raising its season order from 13 to 16 -- series co-creator and showrunner Bob Kushell has stepped down and reports say the series will “relaunch” after its midseason hiatus.
>>77780816
The original Muppet Show only had one celebrity guest per episode, this has several and it feels like they're overly relying on them for name dropping/references.

puppetry is a form of animation

but its not a comic or cartoon go back to /tv/
>>77781293
There have been Muppet comics and cartoons.
>>77781329
then talk about those
>>77780924
It's not as bad here as it was in Muppets Most Wanted, thank god.
>>77781563
True that. Still had good songs though.

Fuck off faggot. The mods that be have decreed that Muppets are, in fact, /co/-related.
>>77780399
It's very decent, but that's about it. It's a good watch if your viewing list is sparse, but if you have better things to watch than you won't miss much. The Office/30 Rock format is incredibly bland at this point, and you would think the Muppets would be just the thing to spice it up. Well, they don't. The Muppets could be swapped out with real actors and very little of the show would different, They play things too straight.
>>77780905
>Series co-creator and showrunner Bob Kushell has stepped down and reports say the series will “relaunch” after its midseason hiatus.
This could be a blessing in disguise. The talk show element needs to fuck right off, they need to produce the Muppet Show within the show. Miss Piggy is awful in general and giving her top billing was a terrible idea.
>>77781708
Miss Piggy was always redeemed because she doted on her "Kermie", and because her reactions were over the top and violent ("HIIIII YA").
Here she's just pure bitch.
It feels too low energy. Like you said, its played too straight. We need muppet monsters eating other monsters and slapstick and such.
>>77781665
Oh yes. Everything else about that movie was great. It's just that they overdid the celebrity cameos and should've left it at the three leads.
>>77781563
There's a big difference between having celebrities play characters and having celebrities play themselves, it's even more cringe-worthy when they're always referred to by their full name for maximum recognizability.

>>77781840
I'm referring to shit like Celine Dion randomly popping in during one of the musical numbers. Muppets Most Wanted was filled with tons of moments like that and it got pretty stupid after a while.
The main three actors of that movie were all fantastic.

The two Disney Muppet movies had fantastic songs. Some shine brighter than others but I can't think of any duds.

>Fuck off faggot. The mods that be have decreed that Muppets are, in fact, /co/-related.
The mods could say what ever the fuck they want, it's not s cartoon and it's not a comic, hence it shouldn't fucking be here

2011's Muppets had some of the people in the theater in tears when Pictures in my Head and Rainbow Connection came on.

Denise and Kermit are actually good together I'm hoping piggy finds someone new because I don't want him to return to that
>>77780637
i dont think the format matters really, all that matters is humor
the problem is this doesnt fit their kind of humor, at all. it fits the awkward cringey The Office humor perfectly. Basically someone in charge doesn't understand the difference between quirky and quirky
it's no worry, they've said the current showrunner has left and there's a new one who's planning to reformat the show a bit for the last 6 episodes of this season
thank fucking god.
>>77780726
You've got a point there Swedish Chef. Very eloquently put.

> tfw every muppet thread has the same "muppets arent board related" shiposters every single time. every single time.
> tfw people reply to them every single time. every. single. time.
It's too grounded. I see they wanted to take the Muppets out of wacky goofy nonsense into more character-driven humor but this swings the pendulum too far. Also the LOOK AT US HOLLYWOOD CELEBRITIES got tired real fast and there isn't nearly enough Rowlf.
