he's much better at character work and adding mythology to things that don't have much of one, especially characters/mythologies that people didn't care about before
notice how aquaman and forever evil were probably his best works since new 52, the former being what i said above and the latter just being all of his fave characters together
that and writers usually just stop being good after a while, and johns has been in comics for a long time

Johns Blackest Night and forward is mostly shit with occasional perals of OKness, a direct inversion of every issue before the last one in Sinestro Corps War.
He closed out JLA, the stellar title originally hemled by Morrison, in one of the best ways available in light of shitty Identity Crisis constraints. Guy was good once. Even the Identity Crisis arc in Flash was amazing compared to the rest of the dogshit.

I love Johns but this run was not good. I think it just wasn't his thing from the start. He's not the guy you bring in to build continuity up from scratch. All his best works build off past stories. It was just a poor fit probably done because his name sells.
The people who hate him because of this run are kind of odd though. JL has been more bad than good the past 30 years or so anyway.

His strong with relationship based books, the JL book had characters he didnt want on the team and that he doesnt like and NEEDS to be an action greater than life book if you are going to have heavy hitters.
Johnss continued to add and add characters and didnt do shit with themhe wanted to do world building without having to actually do the hard work. He also shot himself on the foot by making the book a Lex luthor book.
Luthor could had worked on the trinity book, or even wonder woman/superman, but in the league it just shit everything down, the trinity was reacting to Luthor since forever evil, and NOTHING else happened.
