>watch the Mr. Plow episode
>it was boring as fuck for the most part

Do you think the "golden seasons" are overrated?
>>
I think some of them are overrated (wouldn't even consider 8 golden age but some people suck its dick constantly) and some are underrated (2 is really good), but in general I think around 3-6 tend to receive the amount of praise they deserve. Not that every episode from that range was amazingly brilliant, but some reached really high peaks and in general the comedy/satire was p great.

HOWEVER

Simpsons is autistically overquoted all over the fucking internet and never ever stops, so I don't think I'll ever be able to enjoy any of those episodes everyone else fucking loves unless I lock myself off from the world for a decade or so and forget them entirely. Endlessly quoting anything is cancer and shitting on past Simpsons writers/directors for not recognizing quotes they probably haven't thought about in decades, which I've seen done, is absolutely shameful.

while technically disagreeing with everything you said, I think you're basically right. it's impossible to enjoy them now the same way you did then, or 10 years from then.. just like it's impossible to enjoy seinfeld anymore
what we should be wanting is more of the same. Not the same jokes repeated endlessly, but more written in the same way

No

You just happened to watch one of the few that actually did age poorly

Watch Homer Bad Man, it holds up amazingly well to this day.

Also, I saw some season 26 episodes, and they are bland as fuck. Sometimes it feels like they're begging you to laugh, it's sad. What I hate the most is how they feel the need to make characters explain their feelings as if viewers are too dumb to figure them out, and when they explain the plot numerous times within the same episode

hey mr plow aged fantastically
>do YOU come with the car? Oh you, teeheeheehee!
>whh-chh!
>I was at the pornography store. i was buying pornography
>the terrible commercial
>the family's utter exuberance in homer's side-business and getting to be in said commercial
>Kiss my asphalt muttered quietly, then loudly in homer's retelling
>Linda Ronstadt!
>no, this is tony plow, from leave it to beaver. yeah he was gay
>Senor Plow no es macho, es solamente un borracho
>million dollar bill and its description
>even GOD can't stop us. OH NO?
>we're calling to distract you while we reposess your plow
>gettin' it awwwwn

It's a mixed bag, because for every joke that played better when I was a kid, there's a joke I never got before
>>

>thought 'pornography' was just a smart-sounding word homer made up
>because i was just a wee kid, though smart enough to know the greek word root graphein
>tell this to /co/ enough times that someone actually recognizes and remembers me

The good episodes still hold up very well and the worse episodes are at worst boring, in general.

Everything gets overrated over time, but I can still watch something like Lisa's Wedding and still be entertained.

I tried watching any of the other episodes set in the "future" from season 10 onwards and it honestly astounded me how awful the jokes were and how poorly they were executed.

I enjoy that one even today. It's not one of the two very best though: Last Exit to Springfield and Cape Feare.

there's a serious dip starting around season 9 and plunging hard after season 12, but i shit you not it gets better around season 21. I think it was 'a bob next door' that made me feel for the first time in a long time that simpsons still had a chance to redeem itself

it squandered the fuck out of its chance with 6 years of mediocrity, but it's still the best 6 years the show has had out of the previous 12

simpsons was never good

I do catch the occasional episode, and they're definitely better than the bad Mike Sculley years that turned me off the show in the first place.

It's just hard to get used to the new art style and animation. This gif is a pretty good summary of that.

yeahhhh the CHARM is gone, that's for sure. even the worst episodes had some charm in the scully days.
a cow-orker of mine explained it pretty well: in season 13 on they had these new writers trying to be the simpsons, and not knowing how.. they were just badly aping the old writers. the current crop are, at least, doing their own thing. it's not simpsons, but it's better. nothing illustrates that as well as SKY POLICE

You are wrong. They're not overrated. This is my opinion.
