what direction do you go with it? what agerange is it for? action-focused? focused on more abstract heroism? campy? gritty?

Keep it simple.

The power of simple storytelling is so underrated these days. It doesn't have to be brain dead, but it doesn't have to be complicated.

Superman is a relatively uncomplicated character, at least relative to the world around him. He becomes interesting through his interactions with the world, and how he shapes the world and how it shapes him.

Superman isn't a human ideal, or Jesus, or a maniac, or a metaphor, at his core he's a guy doing the right thing. Everything else comes after.

I guess I'd try to make it about Superman in space, doing space things with aliens and AI and advanced species and shit. Idk why I want this but I kinda do. Perhaps we could have superman act as a diplomat or something. Maybe his presence with aliens could allow his innate humanity to shine through. Maybe this would also allow his rare showings on earth to be more special idk.

Less action-y, more focused on characters and plot, slightly mature (i dont mean grimdark whatever).

I've never really thought about this much though.

Also totally unrelated but I'd like Superman to interact with an Indian character somehow. Maybe even pronounce an Indian name correctly. The only reason I want this is I love Superman and Superman giving attention to Indian people feels like some pretty nice validation honestly.

I would focus on Superman's rivalry with Lex Luthor, and let them both be a little more morally ambiguous.

Superman generally does the right thing, but he's been known to lose his cool and occasionally turn some poor sap into a quarter mile long concrete stain. People generally like him, but there are plenty who are afraid of him. Lex is a shady businessman with a hand in politics, but he treats his employees well, and his occasional philanthropic projects do undeniable good for a lot of people.

My arc would have Superman and Luthor in a battle for hearts and minds as Lex tries to further a transhumanist agenda (maybe developing Braniac in this universe) as Superman takes up with the traditional government and warns against science moving too fast and destroying the planet like it did his homeworld.

Luthor is going to hop himself up with Kryptonian DNA and advanced weapons tech through the course of the story. Eventually he'll fight Superman one on one after he destroys something integral to Lex's plan, and accidentally kills an important character in the process. Of course, the last son of Krypton rips his arms off.

The ending should be kind of ambiguous. I mean, not much really survived the war. We kind of have to go with what our glorious supreme leader tells us. He was there, after all, as he singlehandedly saved humanity from the worst of ourselves. He always has.

BATB with a tighter focus on the super-mythos, pretty much. Lighter and wackier than STAS, but not without it's a serious moments. Superficially Silver Age but really more of a mish mash of various eras and stories. Wholesome 50's Supergirl hangs out with 2 Cool 90's Superboy and big dawg Nu52 Krypto, a flashback episode to Superman's early days as a brash vigilante, etc.

So... All Star Superman: The Animated Series, basically. You could even adapt some of the stuff the movie missed, like The Superman Squad in Smallville, planet eater Bizarro World and such. Or expand on stuff, like Samson and Atlas as recurring rivals or more Nasty Luthor. All that good shit.

Season 1 would be Superboy learning about his powers slowly, training against small threats. Eventually getting the hang of it, he decides to push himself further. He learns that he can use freeze breath in one episode, heat vision in another, etc. Mid season he learns he can fly. The final episode is his first meeting with Lex Luthor, as Clark Kent. They are friends at first, but then an accident happens and Lex becomes bald. Although his demeanor is slightly changed, he still seems like a good guy. Maybe this could be a two-part episode.

Season 2 is a timeskip. Maybe 5 years into the future? Clark is a reporter in the Daily Planet, mild-mannered but a bit of a coward. Superman stops robberies and other crimes, but also helps scientists with his fantastic powers and super-brain. He goes into the depths of the oceans and makes huge discoveries. Here he meets Aquaman, who asks Superman to keep his secret safe for the rest of the Atlanteans. A few cameos from other JL members, but nothing too big yet. Maybe stops an asteroid from hitting Earth and gives it to some scientists to study. Small things like that. Mid season he reuintes with Lex. Luthor, seeing the things Superman has done, becomes jealous. Using his abilities as a scientist and businessman, he attempts to defeat Superman, showing his superiority. Personally, I'd stay away from Kryptonite, maybe not using it at all. Luthor tries hiring assassins, using robots, and even making a failed clone (Bizarro). Luthor is eventually put in jail, not by the efforts of Superman, but by Clark Kent's investigative journalism. Lois Lane becomes smitten and prefers Clark Kent over Superman, believing Superman to be too difficult to attain and Clark to be more of a realistic goal.

The third season is set in space, where he learns of other various life forms. He wants to know more about where he came from, as he has exhausted all of Jor E'l's databanks, which he used throughout the series so far.

He goes to various planets, learns about the Green Lanterns, fights various aliens, makes friends. He eventually seeks out Brainiac after being told stories from different aliens. He defeats Brainiac, obtains the bottled city of Kandor, then heads back to Earth, satisfied. The final episode of this season is Superman asking the Atom to help him regrow Kandor. They have the ability to, but are afraid of the consequences, as well as unsure where to put them. Instead, Superman shrinks to their size and spends the rest of the episode hearing stories about Krypton.

Season 4 has some Silver Age shenanigans. Mxyzptlk messes with Superman, Lobo, who Superman heard rumors about in the previous season, is hired to take out Superman. Actual team-up episodes with other heroes rather than cameos, mostly Superman wanting to hang out with them and learning that different methods are effective. Lex Luthor is let out of prison for good behavior. Eventually he successfully becomes president and initiates a project which culminates in Captain Atom. Luthor implicates Superman in a crime, and has Captain Atom fight him. Superman, nearly losing due to Atom's ability to project red sun radiation, pleads to him, asking for a chance to prove his innocence as he is a US citizen. Captain Atom agrees, and they find out he was innocent all along. Luthor is impeached and sent to jail once again.

This is just some stuff I thought up on the fly. It's a little unstructured, but I could keep going on if anyone wants.

Silver-Age, it has the most potential for a cartoon series, and Bronze-Age was already done with the original animated series.

An all ages range some heavier stuff I will try to slip past the censors for the children's benefit.

On the whole it would be semi campy have heavy action enough to eat into quite a lot of budget if we can afford it.

At some point in the season Superman would talk down a jumper.

Lois knows supes identity fairly early as does Jimmy Olsen but Lois is but build up the romance from there.

Metropolis shall look like the city of tomorow it is fast efficient public transport gleaming buildings.

I would focus on the narcissism for lex with a few other aspects of his character appearing at times to.

No amazo fuck amazo

Not full every episode has a team up like brave and the bold did but at some point have supes team up with zatana and constantine at the same time.

In fact just have zatanna on the justice league.

No more then 1 trip to gotham per season

Power level about what he was in the new 52

At least 1/4 of all episodes take place wholy or mostly in metropolis

22 minuite episodes

Each season final will involve the whole justice league with a teen Titans episode each season as well.

SUPERMAN DOESENT KILL UNLESS ITS THE FUCKING ANTIMONITOR

pa and ma Kent both alive and show up at times kill pa Kent with a heart attack a few seasons into the show

>RED TRUNKS

A bottle city of candor episode.

Most of that is not really set in stone but the core of it is Superman won't kill, 22 minuite episodes, red trunks and no amazo.

They still have the same lantern for Krypton's sector that they had when it exploded right maybe when he meets the green lanterns he can talk to him

Silver age and Bronze Age Superman.
Something like Batman: Brave and the bold, but involving superman mythos and Superman supporting cast rather than the entire DCU, like Krypto, Supergirl, Jimmy, Lois, Lana and the legion. Use Superman mythos from the silver and Bronze Age completely unabashed, from various Kryptonites to Superman robots. Use basic Superman villains rarely. Instead show Superman having some fun trippy adventures with his friends, against some otherworldly threats, with moments of heroism and heart.
