So Tangled is five years old today. Why no thread /co/?

My mother used to read me Rapunzel as a kid and it was my favorite fairy tale. I saw Tangled with her when I was 18 in a preview screening before wide release. I wasn't really a Disney fan after the 90's renaissance ended, but Tangled brought me back. It's one of my favorite films now and inspired me to get a job at Disney World down in Florida. I left working there to finish college back in August.

Anyway, I just started rewatching it now. I'm wondering about Gothel's plans. There's probably some much darker story that could have happened as a counterfactual. Say Flynn never arrived. Rapunzel still might have snuck out eventually. So Gothel is hundreds of years old, but Rapunzel ages like any human girl would. I can't imagine Gothel would just be fine and accept that she'd die when Rapunzel does. Also, even if that were the case, she'd have to keep Rapunzel for her entire life, until she became an old woman too. So maybe Gothel thought that she could transfer the power somehow, say, kidnap some guy and make Rapunzel have a kid with the healing power. I mean, this is dark stuff.

Let's keep off those thoughts with some nice Punzy pictures /co/!

You said it.

one assumes once she dies, her remains will grow more magical rampion flowers

anyway this was a good movie, the last good disney movie and the first in a LONG time, which makes sense since it was an older project that finally got finished up
however i still feel lied to by the badass adverts that made it seem like she was going to be a hairninja with a frying pan kicking all kinds of ass.. instead she only kicked slight ass. That's more than usual, but i want more violence in my disney movies, and i want it to be the girl at least a quarter of the time
>>
>>77696725

Okay, that makes sense. I'm glad Disney found a way to transition into CGI properly. It'd be great if they would make 2D again, but Disney was never cut out for making movies like Dreamworks. It really looked like they were losing their way in the mid 2000's. But Tangled really set the groundwork for Frozen.

I'm disappointed by the lack of good Tangled merchandise. Maybe this film is too perfect that it's really hard to replicate. But none of the states or figures or paintings can really capture Rapunzel properly. The only merch I have besides the artbook is an art print by William Silvers. Got it signed when he was at Magic Kingdom. As much as I love this film, nothing else cuts it.

unfortunately. the disney revival began and ended with tangled. now idiots run everything and have all the money once again, so it'll be a decade before we get anything good again
>>
Rapunzel might have been able to de-age herself, no?
>>
>>77697011
that's a good question.. if gothel was using it to remain young forever then it might actually do that. However, are we SURE of how old she is? was it mentioned? Until now if you'd suggested it I would say that her powers could, at best, let her live to 120 at which point her cells make their last division, run out of telomeres, and she has to ride that last set of cells til she croaks, like jeanne calment
buuut considering gothel fucking turned to DUST i guess she had exceeded her natural lifespan. Though really it makes no sense that you need regular magic infusions to keep the effects of the first one, does that mean if she heals a cut you need to use her again in another week or the cut comes back, or at least the scar of it?
>>
Wow, so rewatching it one catches all these little details. Like Rapunzel's favorite food is apparently Hazelnut soup. I didn't know that, so maybe I'm not as much of a superfan as I'd like to think. I've never had it before either. Disney's website even has a recipe for it, so apparently it really is Rapunzel's favorite food. Gothel wasn't just being controlling here.

Who else is excited for the new cartoon in 2017? I want more Tangled, but the movie's so perfect that even a good series probably couldn't match it. That said, Tangled Ever After didn't ruin anything, so who knows?

if she gets to go full spider-man with her hair and beat the shit out of bad guys with frying pans, i'm down

Well Flynn says at the very beginning that she used the flower to stay alive for hundreds of years, so basically an unknown number of centuries. What did Gothel do during that time? What caused her to become the way she is? How did the tower come into being? Why is there a chameleon in Central Europe?
>>
>>77697251
the chameleon clung to a boat i reckon. i dunno how popular exotic pets were at any given time in europe but i know they sure as hell didnt bother with customs back then, if you knew someone who'd been to darkest africa to shoot things he might bring you a pet
i'm sure the tower is a ruin. possibly of a place gothel used to know in its day.
whatever she did in her centuries, she sure as fuck got used to living and terrified of dying.

if the fucking flower can last that long though, especially with a basket covering it preventing photosynthesis ( i mean i guess it CONTAINS sun mana ) then youd think.. i dunno.. she could have transplanted it somewhere safer. though i guess out-in-the-open is a decent place for a flower to hide if nobody knows it's worth a damn.. but somehow someone knew about the flower when the queen needed it. she may have gotten drunk and let it slip

I don't love it, but it's my favorite Disney film in a while. The rowboat scene is 10/10 comfy.
>>
are they really making a broadway show out of this?
>>
>>77697425

Well they premiered it on a cruise ship, but it'll probably be on broadway eventually. You can see the whole performance on youtube. New songs are alright.
>>
>>77697368

Corona has that whole sun theme going, so maybe the flower was some old legend they passed down. When they were desperate, the kingdom decided to try everything, including investigating a centuries old myth.
>>
>>77697561
yeah that makes sense. shit i didnt even pick up on the name being corona
>>
Funnily, i literally just got done watching it.
Definitely one of the better disney movies in a while.
I much prefer it to frozen. It is interesting to see how rapunzel influenced 3d female design in Disney
>>
>>77696879
I love the art book and want to buy it. I wish it looked like the sketches they showed in the book. The 3D wasn't bad but I think it would have been amazing animated traditionally.
>>
>>77698030
>It is interesting to see how rapunzel influenced 3d female design in Disney
or neglected to. if only theyd kept that up
>>
Okay, so Flynn was an orphan in the 19th century, but he learned how to read somehow? Impressive. I wonder what the story behind that is...
>>
>>77698298
>19th century
well that helps. do we have a source on that? fuck i'd love a beauty and the beast crossover there...
i m ean he said they read stories n shit, i imagine they had a couple books and he was able to learn from that. he's probably not fantastic at reading, but passable
>>
I'm still shocked at how enjoyable I found it, I had zero expectations going in to the film. Was really charming and actually funny. Main characters had excellent chemistry, and I liked Gothel as the villain too.
>>
>>77698497

Well "I've Got a Dream" mentions Mozart, which is the biggest clue. Then there's the fashion, which can be dated. Punzy and Flynn eat cupcakes, which according to wiki appear to have originated in America during the late 18th century. Plus if their cameo in Frozen is canon, then you can trace all the clues from that film as well.

When I met Rapunzel at Disney World earlier this year we were talking about food and she rattled off the Hazelnut soup recipe. And looking it up on the website, it's almost the exact recipe she gave.
>>
>>77698987

That's really impressive. I worked there for most of this year, but I made a point to never visit her. I love Tangled, but nothing could match it. I just though visiting her would remove the magic for me. I mean, she'd have to sound like Mandy Moore for me to be satisfied. That's on top of having the right look, which...I mean, those princesses try their hardest, but there's only so much they can do. That hazelnut soup thing is impressive though.
>>
>>77698987
is she barefoot?
>>
>>77699254
whom wants to know?
>>
>>77698630

Oh, and modern mime artistry appears to date from the 19th century too.
>>
>>77699087
CP? What's your role?
I did the opposite, Rapunzel, Ariel and Tiana were the princesses I visited the most often and I was never disappointed. Yeah, there's a couple of her friends who didn't sound exactly like Mandy, but most did a fantastic job with her voice and personality. Compared to say Cinderella who's always just kind of "eh" when I would meet her.
>>
>>77699334

I liked Snow White depending on which friend she brought with her. Anyway, I worked parking at Magic Kingdom, but ended in August to finish school. I'm graduating in two weeks. Parking was actually pretty great. I got to drive the big tram that takes guests to the entrance. They also let us use the microphone on the back to announce showtimes and tell jokes. It doesn't sound flashy, but I think I got lucky with my role. Made lots of great friends there too. What's your role?
>>
>>77699254
No, she has purple flats
>>77699417
I did PAC at MK and left in May. I had some friends that got transferred over to Parking. Although they were stuck at Downtown Disney during the all that shitty construction.

there, that looks more like her.. the face is all fucked up again like usual
though seriously i recall her hair being a lot lighter

does rapunzel have a bathroom in that tower or does she just do her business with her bum hanging out the window?
>>
>>77701570
i reckon there's a sort of outhouse with a realllly deep drop before it hits the primitive equivalent of a septic tank. it can handle decomposing one person's leavings without significant buildup
