How do you feel about Bojack Horseman?
>>
It was sorta pointless. I really want to congratulate everyone who worked on it for taking advantage of the social norms that were adult cartoons animated in styles (artistically) similar to Bojack, (Family guy, Bobs Burgers),

The problem is the show just doesn't add up to anything. Bojack is a very human character, and some of the other characters are pretty good too, but after watching seasons one and two, there were defenitly some good episodes, but I was left not really with anything. The whole just sorta feels like it's just trying to tell me "at least your not this guy" but I wish there was some sort of reward. We don't see bojack solve anything or any pay off, he isn't even punished, he just sorta does bad things. That being said, season 2 was significantly better than season 1.

Cont ---
Totally forgot to mention this, american cartoons are very sexual, (in some ways, rather than others, why do we not have boob physics in america like glorious Nippon?) but anyways, there's an accepted way cartoons are going to work, someone is going to make a raunchy joke, and there's not going to be any continuity, what Bojack sorta works off is a similar formula, but tries to put weight into each of the characters actions. Along side this, we're working in a medium that doesn't have serious moments, there's no touching moments in family guy. There are touching moments in simpsons, (it's been a long time since I've seen that show but I remember they handled serious things pretty well) But Bojack did a pretty good job with it's more serious scenes.

But that scene after they recorded in the replica oval room was pathetic. Bojack started crying for no reason god that was dumb.
>>
>>77654026
>he isn't even punished
The punishment is that he's somewhat aware that he's a horrible person, and no matter how much he tries to get better he'll always fall in the same holes and end up back in square 1. This will probably keep happening for the rest of his life.
>>
Bojack's growth is extremely gradual. I thought that his character development is actually quite realistic, in that he's attempting to change but keeps falling back into old routines. People don't make sweeping changes quickly or easily, and neither does Bojack.

As an example, his treatment of Todd tends to improve when he realizes that without Todd, he's got no one in his daily life who he can actually call a friend. But then he remembers that Todd is also the only person he really has any direct control over and then treats him like shit again.

It's going to keep happening because, ultimately, Bojack is incapable of any real growth as a person. This is true for almost every character in the show, and is part of what gives it an exquisite bittersweet feeling.

>>77654026
Cartoons do not have to make you feel good to be good. At all.
>>
This might be an unpopular opinion, but does anyone else feel like the tension between his mother and him is forced?

I love the show but sometimes the scenes with his mother and he, just seem--I don't know, kind of lacking compared to the rest of the struggles the characters face in the show.
>>
>>77653750
It has nothing to do with DragonBall Z, and that makes me mad.
>>
>>77654111
>for no reason
You weren't paying attention.
>>
>>77654468
There's no tension because Bojack is resigned to taking her abuse until she dies.
>>
Honestly I just really really really like the character designs and the clothes they wear. As well as the houses and furniture in the show. It's got that Reddit aesthetic or something. Which is actually pretty spiffy when it comes to real world looks.

The actual jokes and drama in the show are at least self aware and careful. Charming, but trying to be charming but oh wait is it still charming if it's trying to be? type of stuff. It's fun.

Bojack isn't a smart man and having to watch that prom from the start to when you discover the balloons origins was like reopening Pandora's Box.

I really enjoy it. I had to take my time watching it though, after awhile it made me even more depressed and had to step away a little bit. It's bittersweet in a way and I like how the characters interact.
>>
>>77653750
The chicken episode was grotesque with its implications.

Also, it's probably the most hilariously racist show out there right now given that every seemingly innocent animal metaphor they use is technically an ethnic slur.

Bojack himself? A piece of equine garbage.

>for no reason
Pay attention to the scene after Mr. PB leaves. It's a pretty sad moment remarked by the atmosphere and the conversation topic and it hits Bojack like a train. He just doesn't cry in front of others so that eventually had to come out later.

The only reaason /co/ likes it because the sad horse is relatable to them. The entire show is shit, the animation is awful and almost every character is "I feel sad and life isn't good all the time woeisme :( "

That's kinda the point though. You can try to improve your life, but in the end, you can't. Sometimes people are just miserable because they're miserable, and there's nothing they can do to change that.

Depressing as fuck message, but that's the point.

"Misery loves company" the show. It's self-pity masturbation for complacent whiners. Life in the first world doesn't always go how you want., my god, how agonizing.
>>
>>77653750
>We don't see bojack solve anything or any pay off, he isn't even punished, he just sorta does bad things
Then you're completly missing the point. Life is NOT a sitcom show, you DON'T learn a lesson at the end of each day, you DON'T magically solve your problem by going a journey, sometimes you try, you try and nothings happens.

Bojack is showing us exactly that, how life doesn't have a huge deep meaning hidden somewhere, how it's just... life. The only exception in the show would be the old running monkey giving him some wisdom at the end. Things will eventually get better for Bojack but not thanks to a radical change or a sudden breakthrough he would make... but slowly, painfully, meaninglessly even but just trying to live with himself day after day, it will get easier.

This. Character development is a mainstay in many and all works of fiction since ever, yet it's something quite rare in reality. Especially after entering adulthood, most people simply settle with whatever or whoever they've managed to become - some, out of satisfaction; others, out of resignation.

The thread is "How do you feel about Bojack Horsemen", not, "Say how much you like Bojack Horseman"

It's good for the analytical content but shit for the comedy.

I wish everything was better in it so some of the lines could hit a little deeper for me, I was a big fan of the "no deep down" and "dying for nothing" conversations.
