I wholeheartedly agree that this should become a new general. Voice acting is usually just as important as writing. We can crossover with the webcomics general too.

I am totally with you, however, if you feel like trying that, wait for the new school year to begin. We've been so slow in FSA on /soc since may.

Did not expect any Repo! tonight. Nice choice. And nice job!
>>
>>83738825
Thanks! Yeah, back in high school we made a 12-song cut of Repo! as a one-act for a theatre festival; it got me pretty into the movie (and also I played Nathan Wallace for it). Good times.
>>
>>83739007
I was selling a few of my old Blu-Rays recently and I couldn't bring myself to get rid of Repo. I think part of me thought I was probably the only person in the world who actually bought it, and therefore it must be cherished.
>>
>>83739037
The cast alone is enough reason to keep it around. Paris Hilton's face falling off? Paul Sorvino as a singing mob boss who sounds like the Cowardly Lion sometimes? Alexa Vega side boob? C'mon. That's a keeper.

DOOM will destroy those responsible for this indignity! Doom will not rest until he has his vengeance! Doom will not be confined! He will escape this minuscule prison, and reign death and destruction on the everyone responsible! Not even the nail-makers, or the sowers of the seeds that grew into the trees that were mercilessly chopped down to construct this shoddy container will be spared! When the dust settles and the ash clears, Doom will have repopulated the rain forests out of the compost of the dead! In Latveria, it is said, "Blessed are the boxmakers, for they will make the boxes that will store the wealth of the future!" Under Doom's leadership, Latveria has many boxmakers, and they have made many boxes, and the wealth of the future is shiny, indeed. And none--not those responsible for this ignominy, not those who profit off my so-called defeat, not those in the ivory tower who expelled Doom when his project to rescue his mother from the void of hell itself was sabotaged and exploded, not the terrible RICHARDS--NONE shall have access to the profit of our future! None will have access, and none will shepherd Latveria into a new age, a DOOM age! For when Doom pries himself free of this shoddily constructed containment, I shall double, and RE-DOUBLE, my efforts to take down the vile RICHARDS, and all who support him, provide succor to him, and all who bow in reverence to his name! RICHARDS SHALL FALL! And it shall be DOOM WHO MAKES HIM FALL! ALL SHALL RISE IN CLAMOR FOR DOOM! AND DOOM SHALL DEFEAT RICHARDS AND LEAVE HIM A BROKEN AND SCARRED SHELL OF A MAN, AND HE SHALL RECOGNIZE DOOM AS HIS SUPERIOR AND THE WORLD SHALL BOW BEFORE DOOM! ALL SHALL BOW BEFORE DOOM! AND ALL WHO OPPOSE DOOM SHALL HAVE NO RECOURSE BUT VAPID AND IMPOTENT PRAYER! FOR THEY SHALL CALL UPON A GOD NOT THERE, A GOD NOT LISTENING, AND THE ONLY GOD THAT SHALL HEAR THEIR PITIFUL CRIES SHALL BE DOOM! AND DOOM WILL STAND BEFORE THEM! AND DOOM WILL TURN AWAY FROM THEIR CRIES FOR MERCY!

Okay guys, here it is. I've never actually attempted anything like this before, and as such, I have neither the tools nor the talent to pull this off well (and fuck, I'm talking like Doom now). Is there any sound recording software/technology out there that can make my shitty voice acting sound somewhat passable? All I have to go by at the moment are are Audacity and a crappy in-built computer microphone.

Vocaroo is mono and simple and free but mono

1. Get Audacity from Soundforge so you can record and edit on your PC
2. Get an account on an audio hosting site with better sound quality. Chirbit and Soundgasm and even others, since this is SFW stuff mostly.
3. Upload to your audio site and post link
4. Everybody is happy.

Here's a topical myth for /co

Cartoons 1980-89

And the Bears of Gummi Glen found that their berries had been stolen. They cried out to the Heavens, asking "Who, who had done this thing?" And in that moment, the Heavens trembled, for they did not know.

Optimus and Brite, the Great Ones, both looked down, and did not know, but proclaimed that they would find the thief. So the Mighty Warrior and the Queen of Light searched across the Heavens, but they did not find the thief. The other gods turned to Papa Smurf, but the Wise One did not know.

From the Snorks of the Deepest Waters, to the Hawks of Thunder, Protectors of the Stars, all searched out the thief of the Gummi Berries, for lo, all knew that the berries could be the Undoing of All.

But the thief was not found, for the thief was the Pieman, pitiful and small. And he labored under his Peak, knowing that he would not be found, and the strife that he had created would be his cloak.

And so it was. For the Joes proclaimed that the Forces of the Snake had stolen the berries, and must be destroyed. And the Companions of Ruxpin cried, "No, it was the MAVO who stole the berries! We must slay the MAVO!" And the Twins, Man and Ra, Power and Honor, spoke from their pride and their lust for vengeance, and said that the Horde must be at the root of the theft. And the Heavens grew dark, and Optimus and Brite held their piece, awaiting the end to the strife, reluctant to intervene as the sought the truth.

And all the while, beneath his Peak, the Pieman baked...

I'm looking to get into VA because I was a stage actor but my disability makes it too hard to stage act. I've been getting into old radio plays and stuff and learning about the legends of radio, and I really feel at home. I really hope I get to meet cool people.

Since you guys dig impressions (I guess. I don't want to do impressions, I want to voice act), here's Harley (Sorkin Harley) as Dr Quinzel since I have a similar voice:

http://vocaroo.com/i/s0dDDW2latKL

I need to invest in a better mic.

http://vocaroo.com/i/s1DRDrcTE41o

this is a tough voice. You need to put your throat in such a weird place.

Got my phone mic to sound OK, here's more in better quality:

>>
>>83755440

I haven't sunk much into this impression yet. I'm just kind of skating by on a mild passing resemblance. I'm hoping I can improve it. Thoughts?

I feel like people try to do Harley by doing an Italian NY accent, when it's really more of a mix of Jewish and Irish NY accents, which is also more what mine is.

Didn't know that about Reaper. I'll give it a look. But the a main advantage of Audacity is all the tutorials and support stuff on the soundforge site and YouTube. Good for setting newbies out on their own and not having to tech shit for them. Been using it on FSA for years.

If you can afford it, by all means get the best stuff you can get. But if you can't afford anything...freeware rules, that's all.

Sadly, I'm old too and I just plucked that out FSA's shenanigans file. I to have one I found on FaceBook that also might be up your alley.

Purina Diet

So I'm at Wal-Mart buying a bag of Purina dog food for my dog. While in the check-out line, a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. Why else would I be buying dog food, RIGHT??? So on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again, and that I probably shouldn't because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in intensive care with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a Perfect Diet and all you do is load your pockets with Purina Nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff a poodle's butt and a car hit me. I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. Better watch what you ask me and be prepared for my answer. I have all the time in the world to think of crazy things to say.

But that's not very /co, so have a boy-girl twosome that IS board-relevant

Vicki Vader Speaks

“Darth, I’m not trying to be critical. I’m really not. I’m just suggesting that things might have been different if you had spent the money you devoted to the Death Star on economic development in colonized planets or on Storm Trooper pensions. Have you seen how inaccurate their shots have been lately? I’m not saying it’s sabotage. I’m not even sure it was a conscious decision. But I am saying that the Death Star was a blow to their morale before it ever blew up.”

— Vicki Vader, Darth’s ever-pragmatic wife

Clayface:

"I want to be an actor. That's what I always told myself. To become a different character each night. And go back to being who I was by day. I guess I got my wish - only there's no going back. I chose the stage name Basil Karlo, hoping people would remember it. Sure, it's corny, but it's also catchy. Apparently, Clayface is catchier. You won't find it engraved on this street, though. Hollywood turned its back on me when I became a real monster. You have no idea the rage that builds inside me when I think of what could have been. My life could have resembled the stars whose handprints line this street. Rather than the cold clay they've been placed in."

I'm working on a voice for a character I'm doing based on the X-TREEM gaming culture of the 90s along with 90s sci fi in general. I'm wanting to give him a voice with the appropriate amount of obnoxiousness and edge but not something inherently grating or annoying to listen to. Here's a sample of one of his 90s as hell catch phrases, I'm not very confident in my voicing abilities so any constructive input is appreciated.

Well, there's a problem: There's something wrong with my throat, so I can't talk for very long and doing the voices I used to be able to do is very hard. A doctor in South Korea invented a surgery that might fix it a few years ago, provided I keep my voice and there are no horrible accidents. It's unique compared to other surgeries in that it's incision-free. He managed to invent a way to do it using only sutures and fusing, so the risk of voice loss is minimal. If it does fix it, the voice won't sound so forced anymore and I'll be able to actually emote and the impression itself will probably get orders of magnitude better. I'm currently saving up the cash to go do it and get my old singing/acting voice back.

Wow. That's really cool. Freaking Korea, man. I'm definitely rooting for you and for the surgery to work!
