X-23 is my favorite comic book character and I've decided to read all of her best stories along with her notable appearances. I've read "Innocence Lost," "Target X," "NYX," her appearances in "Uncanny X-Men," "Captain Universe," "New X-Men," "X-Force," "Messiah Complex," and her own One-Shot.
I'm curious about what else there is to read about her. I know about her "X-23" series where she meets Gambit as well as the new ongoing "All-New Wolverine." What else is there? I read that she lived on Utopia for a while, which issues did that take place in?Also, X-23 thread.

I kinda figured that might happen. X-23 has always been a dark character, especially with the whole "cutting herself" thing. Now that she's the face of the new Wolverine, I'm sure Marvel wanted to tone her down and reign her in so he could pander to Tumblrites, SWJs, a younger female demographic, etc. I assume that's what you mean, right? They've toned her down for "All-New Wolverine"?

I had read "Innocence Lost" and her One-Shot a couple years ago. Only recently have I decided to read everything else. But I was also a fan of hers when she first appeared in X-Men Evolution and when she showed up in MvC3. All of that stuff from the past added with the stuff I'm getting into now has made her my favorite character.

I was thinking about this. Instead of recasting Hugh Jackman, which would be impossible and pretty pointless, just introduce Laura. The after credits scene in X-Men: Apocalypse showed what I assume to be a sample of Wolverine's blood and a hint to Mister Sinister. They can totally introduce Laura in the next one or two movies.
Man All New Wolverine makes me sp frustrated. The story works well for Laura and then she talks and I remember why I prefer my Buffy characters in Buffy. It also has too many crossovers in my opinion.
I know she can take a fuck ton of abuse, but is she really much of a heavy hitter? Those arms look awfully skinny.

I think it's actually good they finally made a clean break with the endless characterisation loop she was stuck in. Obviously the circumstances weren't ideal, but ANW is the best she's been written since Avengers Academy ended. Like, if Arena had never happened, I could see her largely ending up in the same place emotionally she did at the start of the book.
If people want to bitch about her characterisation, they should look at ANXM.

What would make the definitive X-23 story? What should her character arc be? Imagine you have four issues to work with. Is there an antagonist? Is it more down to earth like NYX? Does Logan make an appearance, dead or alive? How would it end? Would the conclusion have some kind of lasting effect on future runs featuring Laura?

You and I are on the same page, anon. Kimura is definitely Laura's greatest threat. I had an idea today where the two girls have their final showdown. Laura is critically wounded, Kimura is euphoric at finally being able to kill X-23. Then Laura stabs Kimura through the mouth and severs her brain stem from the back of her throat. Since Kimura's skin is invincible, but her internal organs are not, right? With Kimura dead, Laura can finally, literally, physically bury her past and start a decent life. Or, something along those lines. This would be the end of the story, obviously. Not sure what the beginning and middle would look like. I would like to see Laura take on a seemingly endless amount of goons. Just a whole issue dedicated to her killing, getting tired, killing some more, feeling some kind of dread over her past, killing even more guys, feeling some sudden remorse at the amount of people she has killed in this moment and throughout her entire life because of other people, then killing the last of the goons before finally breaking down or passing out. Shit would be fucking rad, I think. If illustrated properly, I think it could really make people feel sympathetic for Laura.

Though, in all seriousness, I think it could probably go two ways. The first way is that the team all gets dragged down by their issues with each other. Issues like abandonment, cheating, murder, rejection, hatred and just general trauma. These issues, along with the glorious hate, revenge and sad sex would lead to a few problems which could eventually drive them apart and lead to a complete failure.
The second scenario is that they learn to love each other, either in a romantic, familial or platonic way and they get over their issues. If this happened, well, at the very least, the day would probably be saved.
Afterwards, they would probably remain in contact with each other and the ones who either formed or reformed romances would probably keep them going for a while.

Huh. I never would have noticed. Maybe because Laura's hair is so much longer than Wolverine's or Daken's, it took longer to regenerate and thus it becomes more noticeable? Not sure why her hair would grow to the same length every time, though.

including the one's you've read, I'd say the essential readings are, in chronological order:
Innocence lost > target X > New x-men (issue 20 onward) > X-force > X-23 > avengers academy (only joins half way in, but worth reading all of it)
Then she has a big drought of good material.
First there's Hopless' Arena (unforgivable), Bendis' All-new X-men (unremarkable), and currently Hopless' All-new X-men (BRB.)
But now we also have her wolverine run, and I think it is...fine. People who say her personality is completely gone are overstating things. I think the character as portrayed in the book is still pretty consistent with Laura overall.
The main thing is her dialogue has changed to be less taciturn and robotic and more mundanely human, which can be justified since she's gone through years of socialization by now. And in any case its not like the abomination in pick related.
Its not top-shelf Laura, but its mostly passable, and she gets a cute kid sidekick, sort of.
