So a question about Transformers,how did it get so.,, "fannish" by that I mean with DC and Marvel, or even stuff like Dr Who, fans eventually take over, it's the natural order of nerdy things, but with TF, you have stuff like Ask Vector Prime and Universal streams and AllSpark Alamancs, that just seem so...fullkf artifice, like there is this entire autism driven subculture of the franchise that has a litle foothold inthe publication, and while I love it when various stry threads and concepts are woven into something new, when that is done as a end to itself it smacks of headcanon fanwank rather than legitimate story telling.
Especially the funpub stufd where you have plotlines and stories contorting all over the place to justify irl concepts.
Old fan here, the fan universal stream stuff is the fruit of two things.
1- TF fans are really territorial about their nostalgia and want to be told over and over that the old stuff they like is not gone forever.
2- 20 years of interaction between Hasbro staff and fans means that a lot of people have become good friends, some of those friends were already working in the publishing and media business, so some of them got hired into those positions.
So it's exactly what happened with DC and Marvel, except a little crazier and goofier because they don't think anyone takes that Funpub-style material seriously, so they have fun with it.
It's technically canon and official, but nobody other than some majorly autistic fans really takes it in stride.

Right, but all of that lore is only relevant in their own niches. You're not seeing that stuff outside of the funpub comics (which are only read by hardcore fans that actualy enjoy that inside-joke-ish stuff) and so on.
The people that work on it take it less seriously than fans do because they know at the end of the day they're nothing compared to the people working in the retail-released comics and cartoons.

The AllSpark Almanac was written by different people than the show writers and they made up some of their own stuff. That's not really fanfic though since it's officially licensed and they were paid for their work.
Transformers is an entirely different beast than almost any other franchise out there. Its origins are so complicated that people still can't agree on whether it's an American or Japanese franchise. It's had an outright stupid number of different continuities just to promote a goddamn toyline.
That's the bottom line, I think. Transformers is a huge multi-media franchise made to promote a toyline. Since the story has always been secondary, they don't mind having fun with it and going into full fanwank mode at times.

IDW made sense to call it that until about 2012. Before that was in order trying to take what worked about G1 comics and setting to a modern covert warfare setting and self-insert fanfiction for the G1 cartoon. And it still has the strongest influence from G1 out of any continuity family in dynamics, characterization, universe rules, etc. while other ones usually are just bit parts and fanservice cameos.

What the holy fuck are you on about? IDW was ALWAYS a heavily G1-centric universe. The fact that they were operating in slightly deeper cover than usual doesn't change the fact that the cast in Infiltration were all 1984 guys with updated alt modes (and Runamuck and Runabout because they were the first Decepticon cars that don't have the baggage of being a Special Team). Sure they did some stuff differently like having Hardhead be Hot Rod's partner and not a Headmaster, and having Sunstreaker be an actual Headmaster, but it was still GEEWUN all the way down. Sure the Nova Prime mythos bit was "original", but only inasmuch as Furman found a new way to do the same apocalyptic evil schtick while also doing the Optimus-Prime-overcomes-self-doubt schtick he loves doing.
Characters from other series like Beast Wars, Cybertron and RiD only started showing up recently.

Prime Wars is the collective name of Combiner Wars, Titans Return, and a third unannounced sub-brand that follows a similar line-wide gimmick. No confirmation for any such thing as that. Could as easily be something like modernized Pretenders where instead has second robot mode evocative of armor/monsters, Micromaster combiners, Duocons, and Clones scaled up to be mix and match components line, or some bullshit re-imaging pulling characters from a bunch of series and making ambiguous funky versions like the first Universe line.

Mark my words, the third line will be each of the Thirteen "Primes" getting their own toy, with each of them being "Prime" of a different gimmick - Nexus' is combination, both scrambled and Headmasters, so expect more redecos of CW and TR molds, Micronus' gimmick is MiniCons, Onyx is beasts... actually that doesn't sound too bad, but I still really don't care for the whole "Dynasty of Primes" bullshit.
