Apparently the bar down the street from me does all you can drink beer for $7 on Thursdays (with a limited selection). I've never had so many good beers in one night.

My main problem with it, like i stated was that it was bitter. I try everything that comes around but this kind of bitterness was almost like trying to eat the peel of a grapefruit or orange. Never been a stout fan myself. I enjoy hoppy beers, but to be perfectly honest I'm more of a bourbon lover.

Brewdogs take on the Sculpin Grapefruit. More malts on the taste than the Sculpin that was mostly grapefruits. I like it!
This was a pretty nice beer. I haven't really had much from Flying Dog, and was pleasantly surprised.
This was god awful, and I poured it out - and I've almost never poured out a beer.
Really sad, since I love a good Mint Julep.
I haven't had that many cream ales, but I really liked this. Ballast Point puts out a few really nice beers, but I feel like they're a bit overpriced.

Temp isn't really an issue here, although we've had a hot weekend. Tried my first no-chill brew, with just cooling overnight, since environment temperature would be higher than what I'd cool the wort to. Might have pitched too warm though, no fermentation after 3 days...

Question, /beer/. So a few years ago I moved from my homeland to the UK and I'm feeling a severe dissonance between how big a part of its culture pubs are and the quality/price of beers offered. Most of them are piss weak (i.e 5% on average whereas where I come from they range 6 to 10 percent, averaging around 8), are slightly more than 3£ per pint which I understand is related to their high minimum wage, but is still quite a lot considering how much of it you have to down to make up for how watery it is, and probably my biggest grip - having beer types mislabeled. Kees, Oedipus, Oersoep, Kwartje, and Jopen spring to mind first.
Where will you stay? If you are in Amsterdam and want to go to a pub, then Proeflokaal Arendsnest has the most Dutch beers. For beers in general, In de Wildeman, De Spuyt and Hesp are pretty good. There are also some others that are supposedly good that I haven't been to.

There are several breweries in Groningen, Bax Bier probably best known nationwide (only among nerds). I don't think I've ever had their beers though so I can't give you a recommendation. Nice city by the way, and good and late nightlife if you're into that kind of stuff.

I found one last bottle of one of the Mikkeller Imp stouts on the shelf here in my overtaxed country. i didn't buy it. It was expensive as fuck 8€ for a small bottle but still I almost regret it. For those of you who don't know, Mikkeller is Evil Twin's cousin and he's known for making his stouts every bit as good if not even better.

That being said, I lived in the UK for 5 years for work and traveled regularly. Europe's stout game is, in general, lesser than the US's. Just like the US can't compete with them in terms of certain styles.

Well when you are talking about european beer you pretty much just have macros and local breweries making the same fucking clones of macros in every town unless you are into Belgium or a small handful of obscure beers in Germany. I mean there are some legitimate craft breweries gaining hold recently in the english speaking areas and Scandinavia, but good beer is still pretty damn uncommon overall

Most small European breweries are not like american craft breweries at all. They typically just make one or two beers mostly in some mediocre style, rarely distinguishable from each other and only a little better than the macros. Remember, these beers were mostly formulated to sell to poor non-discerning peasants, and most of these breweries pride themselves on tradition rather than quality or good recipes, or doing anything interesting and worthwhile. Just look at reinheitsgebot, a law specifically enacted to keep the price of bread cheap by banning brewers from using tasty grains like wheat, rye and oats is now literally celebrated amongst many of these traditional brewers

I dunno man. I've had plenty of really nice trappist style beers (Ommegang, Allagash, and other come to mind) and I still generally find stuff like Chimay or St. Bernardus a bit better.
The thing is though, a 4-pack of the imported beers are like $20+. The US ones, which aren't "worse" but are just slight "not as amazing" are far more affordable. So I still just buy American.

This is true in a few ways. In others, not so much. The American beer scene has evolved in the last decade pretty wildly, out of nowhere.
The IPA meme scene is dying out. We're still experimenting with other styles. But the one style in the US that is, and has been, solid, is our stouts/porters.

I love German beer. I think it's extremely different regionally, regardless of the Reinheitsgebot (Gose's are one of my favorite). I love Belgian beer. I love a number of British beers. I also think the US does a number of great beers.
The thing is, the US beer industry (barring macro shit) is less mature. We're still trying to figure things out. Some IPA's are nice. Some are over-hopped piss. Some stouts are absolutely to die for. Others taste like shitty alcoholic chocolate milk. There's 101 meme poo beers we have, and another 101 decent ones. Once the good breweries grow and the shit ones fuck off, we'll be a lot more stable.

Well this pretty strongly suggests you either have no idea what the fuck you are talking about or are just making things up for the purpose of a ruse.
There are like 4500 craft breweries in America, some of them make super weird or extreme stuff with some of their beers, but usually those are just a tiny portion of their production if they do them. The fact is I can go to pretty much any super market and get really good beer of an incredible variety or styles both traditional and modern even just including things made in my own state
Meanwhile in Central or Northern Europe, (if you are in southern or eastern you are just fucked), you can probably find some good things if you are willing to pay but they just aren't nearly as common, and most of the small independent brewers make a very limited selection of beer that varies very little on a local scale

I like german beer a lot but i'm glad I grew up with access to good american craft beer along with good imported german and belgium beer as a contrast.
My brother was drinking really good imported beer in the late 90s here in america for really cheap $(before the whole craft beer phase), when I went to europe in the mid 2000s there really wasn't any sort of variety in stores/shops, nothing imported from the U.S. or anywhere else.

Am I crazy, or is most of the balanced US brewing done on the East Coast? Everything westwards seems to be IPA this or that, and muh hops.
But in New England and the Bible Belt? Belgians and stouts/porters as far as the eye can see, along with everything else.
Granted I'm a total loser who lives in northern NY so who knows. My local place is huge in terms of domestic US and imported stuff variety tho.
