I'm hosting a BBQ for my family and someone is bringing a few friends who are vegan.

What are some easy vegan dishes I can learn in a day? 1-3 vegan trays of food I can provide.

I already have some vegetarian slow cooked beans, mash potatoes, corn, coleslaw, sliced carrots/celery being provided.
>>
>>7845207
give them celery or something. If you are gonna be a picky eater you can''t complain about that shit

I'm so sorry for you, OP. I couldn't cook for an autist for the life of me, best of luck.
>>
>>7845222
Is that an actual issue? Most vegan or vegetarian people don't eat meat because of ethics, not because they're allergic or something. Would someone really get triggered over something that petty?
>>
>>7845232
because their food being cooked on the same surface that's cooking meat contaminates their ethics

like this anon said just grill up a portabello

Throw on onion, peppers, zucchini, pineapple, or whatever you like on the grill

Also have a spare vinegar based dressing for slaw or salad

fuck vegans though
>>

yeah I don't particiularly care for vegans but if they'\re not douchey it's not that hard to accomodate them, and if they are douchey then have the balls to toss them out

it's not like i personally am triggered, i just don't like it and thus sort myself out with extra gear to put it on the BBQ.

also this >>7845211 , unless someone brings wankers to your party you should be fine as anybody who isn't a complete WhenYoureVeganButhaventToldAnybodyIn5Minutes.jpg will prefer not to be a nuisance

Apparently you can make a decent facsimile of pulled pork with jackfruit.

http://minimalistbaker.com/bbq-jackfruit-sandwiches-with-avocado-slaw/

Unfortunately even though jackfruit is cheap/lb they don't usually come smaller than like 8-10lbs lol.
>>
>>7845232
I take it you've never tried to feed a vegan
>>
>>7845274
Along with this, even chunk pineapples smoked or just grilled with bbq sauce would probably make a pretty decent sandwich.
>>
>>7845274
>>7845289
Full now that I mention all this, and while I have a couple of pork butts smoking outside.. I kinda want to run to the store for some pineapple to put on my pulled pork sandwiches....
>>
>>7845227
every bbq I have been to with vegans in attendance they always complain about that shit, just last month my friend literally had to section off the grill with foil to keep the vegan items separate.

in my case once I had a guy who I didn't even invite come over and bitch at me while I was on the grill "uh, do you have anything that isn't meat?" he said with a condescending inflection

I pointed to the buns

I don't accommodate dietary restrictions when people come over. I don't need to do that to be a good host, I'm a good host by allowing people into my home and providing them with a free meal. It is their responsibility to eat it and not complain about it or leave, makes no difference to me.

it's a shame that people following a certain diet, i.e. myself, will always get thrown in a pot with flamingly retarded individuals who, whatever the fuck may be the reason, follow the same. in fact that is just shit tier behaviour as a guest and even as a decent human being. makes me mad
>>
>>7845416
yes, it's a big deal when someone asks you to come to where they live and eat food they paid for and expect nothing in return but your company, and people have to audacity to complain about the offerings. When did guest etiquette get thrown out?

the way I was brought up, if someone gives you something for free you don't complain about it, you take it and thank them even if you don't want it.
>>
>>7845411
Its one thing if its a legitimate allergy, but if someone is just being picky like a vegan or a gluten insensitivity, thats not your business to worry about
>>
>>7845228
sad and weak
>>
>>7845431

You have to consider what goes on in the mind of self-entitled people:

>>
>Vegans
Tell them to bring their own fucking food, it's a god damned bbq.
That's like going to a vegan buffet and demanding to know why they aren't serving any steak. Jesus christ.
>>
>>7845207
>I already have some vegetarian slow cooked beans, mash potatoes, corn, coleslaw, sliced carrots/celery being provided.

That's more than sufficient. It's a BBQ and should expect meat and if they don't like it, they can stay home.
>>
>>7845207
feed them a bowl of eggs
>>
>>7845207
First off friend, vegan =/= vegetarian. It's actually awesome you are at least trying. Vegetarian is easy to cook for, vegans not so much. They tend to be picky and yeah they won't let you cook their soy products where any meat has been cooked.
That being said.............most "vegetarians" are basically just not "meat eaters" Have some cheese pizza and mac n cheese handy and they'll be fine. Not joking every vegetarian i've dated has been heavy on the dairy.
>>
I dont give a shit if my soy touched meaty surfaces thats just silly.

this

Also, do you have a smoker? Cool-smoked firm tofu is pretty amazing, almost kind of like smoked gouda or something. Smoke a block, cut into slices, coat with sauce and put in a sandwich.

You can also do fried tempeh (pic related) or try cutting tempeh up, putting it on a skewer with mushrooms and onions and other stuff, smoking the skewer, then serving with BBQ sauce in a bun.

Smoked tofu (pic related) is WORLDS different than normal tofu, enough that if it was on a platter with cheese, people would assume it's some kind of mild smoked semi-firm cheese or something (obviously store-bought brands and methods vary the result though).

i dont know why you would expect to find vegan friendly food at a BBQ, but you could make a nice teriyaki sauce and grill some veggies to make veggie yakitori.

Id try leaks, onions, tomatoes probably without the sauce, celery and whatever else sounds good.

Just grill them, dip them, and grill them a bit longer.

That's pretty rare. Some beers use isinglass, but that's not as common in the US - and it's only common with certain types of beers.

Budweiser/lite, Keystone, Coors/light, Miller/high life/lite, PBR, etc are all vegan. The top 12 most popular beers in the US are vegan, so at any given BBQ it's pretty much guaranteed there'll be vegan beer.

>>7845207
What are you making for everyone else OP? I'd try to go for an approximate vegan equivalent, so people don't feel like an afterthought. It keeps things from feeling awkward.

Doing burgers, for instance? Maybe grill some portobello caps rubbed with olive oil and rosemary for vegan ones. Or you could actually make some vegan burgers- black beans and brown rice, if well seasoned, make a pretty tasty base- but that tends to be a lot more involved as the trick is always finding a way to get stuff to bind.

I was grilling with some vegan friends a few weeks ago.

I did the following:

green asparagus in a marinade of soy sauce, sriracha, brown sugar and chili flakes. one of my all time favorites.

chicory salad with a sauce of lemon, coarse black pepper and tobasco. only needs a few seconds if the grill is really hot, you only want the outside to char.

lots and lots of peppers. I dislike bell peppers on the grill and always use the long green and red turkish ones. they were spicy as hell. I served them up well-charred with coarse sea salt and a drizzle of olive oil.

in a casserolle I combined artichoke, eggplant, halloumi and mozarella cheese, all cubes, with garlic, thyme, rosemary, black olives, olive oil, salt & pepper. put it on the grill until the cheese melted.

I cut eggplant super thin and then crisped it up into chips.

I put some champignons on. I think they are best as is. the juices collect in the middle if you put them on upside down and you can drink them like you drink a shot.

all the guests brought their own food. friends brought lots and lots of beer from all corners of Germany, homemade potato salad, rocket salad, pasta salad (ugh), all sorts of sauces and condiments, booze and soft drinks for cocktails.

of course after I was done grilling the veg for the vegans I did everything involving cheese for the vegetarian fraction. after that I put on some sausages, then a few delicious rib eyes steaks, then some ribs I marinated myself.

grilling with vegans can be fun.

I was invited to a BBQ that was vegan, but bit told that it was. My friend thought it would be really funny because I come from a ranching family and hunt avidly, and am known for always bringing meat to a cook out, most notably a venison sausage that follows a hundred year old (at least) family recipe. Anyhow, when I arrive with my trusty igloo packed full of sausage and steak, my friend intercepts me before I can really do anything and says "hey man, let's get that shit on the grill". So he walks me over to the grill and the host is flipping eggplant with a spatula, I don't think much of it at the time, but in retrospect it should have set off a warning, I open up the cooler and pull out a giant top sirloin and a couple of ribeyes and throw them on the little counter on the grill. The guy looked at me with disgust and informed me that this was a vegan BBQ. About this time the other guests start noticing this giant slab of beef on the grill and freaking out, all the while my buddy is laughing his ass off. Knowing that discretion is the better part of valor, I beat a hasty retreat. Too bad though, some of the girls were quite attractive and they looked pretty easy.

my sister and her family are also vegan. my sister claims that the sight of meat makes her sick and wants to vomit. yet she grew up eating it her whole life.

her kids are also "vegan". they get grossed out and think meat is nasty, but ive made them tofu or w/e that fake meat shit is (but it was actually real meat) and they fucking loved it and said it was better than the other stuff they eat at home.

news flash, vegans are all retarded liars, just like people who say they hate the taste of mcdonalds and fast food. of course they play it up when, they have an image to keep up.

tldr vegans are retarded bullshitters with an extreme case of special snowflake syndrome

I'd just tell them to bring their own shit. I have no experience with vegan food and would probably fuck it up

Great choices would be corn on the cob (no butter--or instead of butter use Earth Balance spray).

Some vegans would prefer it to be cooked over foil so it doesn't directly touch the areas used to cook meat. Others don't care about that.

You can also get Morningstar Farms meatless riblets--they're pre-made, you just heat them up.

Amy's veggie burgers would be sure to be a hit too (the california burger is good for those with soy allergies because it has no soy).

You could also do some vegan kebabs (bell peppers, button mushrooms, zucchini, yellow squash, even bits of the meatless riblet cut up, slightly thawed, and impaled on a skewer)

Those are just some suggestions.

On behalf of the vegan community so to speak, I thank you OP for having such consideration.

I've been vegetarian for a year and meat looks legitimately disgusting to me now. I thought about going back but the thought of eating chicken or anything is so unappealing it's ridiculous. I had a piece right in front of my and just couldn't bring myself to do it.
