My landlord just gave me this lil guy
also what should I do with these bad boys? someone else just gave them to me.
>>7838585
Whatever you want.
>>7838585
Trash
>>7838583
>landlord giving tennant a grill
Insurance fraud imminent. I hope you have a good renter's policy.
>>7838585
Is okra. I have no idea how to cook it, sorry.
a man who grills alone, kills alone
>>7838585
fry them shits
What should I grill guys? I'm going to start drinking and maybe an idea will come to me
What is everyone else grilling?
>>7838611
that seems to be the general consensus among the people I've asked, are they so bad that they need to be covered in batter?
Hang in there op
>>7839005
Maybe a couple ears of corn. The rotation is down here but you can probably still find fresh stuff.
>>7839010
A lot of people think they're slimy and they're significantly less so when fried.
I personally like them cooked in stews and gumbo.
>>7839040
I actually just bought some. I usually slice it off the cobb and fry in a skillet with pork fat and then toss in herbs/butter after. I'll do something similar after I grill them.
>>7839058
got some chicken thighs marinating in greek yogurt, lemon juice, olive oil, oregano, garlic, s&p. going to the store now to get a charcoal chimney.
>>7839752
leg quarters *
>>7839752
>charcoal chimney
make your own..
>>7839766
>make your own..
going to the store now to get a paper juice or milk carton.
>>7839766
I just went to the store and got pic related for $15
>>7839820
unitasker scum
>>7839820
chicken is on
>>7839958
gonna need more coals. and put the top on...
jus sayin'
>>7839958
some hickory I put in there caught fire even after soaking and wrapping it in foil. the other quarter got a little too charred but they were both pulled out at around 165°. There's a strange flavor though, I think the charcoal is shitty, it has hickory in it and is kind of old. it came with the grill, I guess I'll buy more for chicken and burgers tmrw.
>>7840000
nice quads
>>7840087
thanks i like to call them 4's.
how was the chicken?
>>7838583
I'm making barbecue alone, does that count?
Aw anon i'd let you come grill at my place if I knew you. Having a big party.
Nobody deserves to celebrate their freedom alone.
>>7838585
Pickle them
>>7839041
They are slimy, when you cut them you get plant mucus strings between the okra and the knife and they stick to the knife
Cooking them in stew fixes it, I've never had them deep fried but I imagine it would taste like just the batter??? I've literally only ever used okra for making gumbo
>>7841524
it was okay, pretty juicy but there was a strange flavor to it.
Only cooked half the chicken, the rest marinated overnight. plus I have some ground beef for burgers too. round 2 today.
>>7841632
can I pickle them the same way I do with carrot/daikon? just water, vinegar, sugar, and salt.
What do americans do if it's raining on the 4th of july? Literally everyone seems to be out grilling.
>>7841744
some just stand in the rain, some have grills underneath cover so it doesn't matter. hard to do fireworks though. growing up in florida, it seems half of my independence days have been rainy.
>>7841714
You could pickle them like you do any other veg. I would leave out the sugar and add some heat to them instead.
>>7841744
if it's light rain no one gives a fuck
if it's normal rain you have people under tents or under awnings, and the fireworks displays are usually cut short or delayed
if it's heavy rain people either seek shelter or get piss drunk and fuck around in the water, and the fireworks displays are delayed for a day or two later.
>>7841744
Non issue here in southern California
>>7841714
nice! post it up tonight.
bump
>>7841744
drink beer and bbq under the pergola..though it rarely rains in july here. I'm abut to walk down to the beach.
>>7841744
This post made me realize ive never seen hard rain on the 4th of July.
Ive spent 3 of them at sea and it was still clear as day every year.
>>7838583
My state keks us all by making us use electric grills on apartment balconies. I'd go coal in a second otherwise.
>>7838583
LPT: The landlord wants you to burn the place down.
>>7841714
seared and then roasted the chicken in the oven last night bc the weather was not cooperating and I was feeling lazy, came out great.
in a few hours I'm going to grill a burger, some corn, and fry okra. oh and make watermelon juice.
a quarter I did in smoker also pulled pork sammitch but no good pic of the meat
>>7838583
nice, I used to cook out on something small like that quite often, just get a low stool to sit on if you don't have a safe table for it to go on, and if you're cooking anything that cooks quick and takes high heat well just use newspaper. I mean it seems like a waste of good charcoal to me to get it going for only five or ten minutes of cooking
>>7839041
fried is good but I also like them just stewed with some diced tomatoes
yeah I'm runnin to the store in a bit to get some beer and something to grill, not sure what though, something cheapish, probably tritip if they have any
>>7845175
here's the watermelon drink. Just blended up fresh cut watermelon, added a little simple syrup, diluted a bit with water and then added soda water when serving. basically summer in a glass.
>>7845295
well ended up just getting a couple of ribeyes, a couple of ears of corn, and I've already got potatoes
>>7845359
alright anons, let see if we can make these pieces of shit taste good
>>7845771
that's roasted garlic off to the side, gonna use it in a sauce for the burger.
>>7845771
oh dude, that's still too big, cut those down to half length or maybe even a third of what they are now
>>7845775
saw some recipes that used pecan flour in the batter, decided to use almond flour I already had on hand instead. flour, almond flour, salt, and some tony chacheres.
>>7845844
if you have it and it's not too late, throw some corn meal in your dry mix
>>7845847
I would if I had some.
They taste ok, kinda still slimy inside, I'm guessing because they're too big like >>7845842 said, but not bad. Probably wouldn't spend money on them lol.
>>7845875
yeah if you don't get them small enough they'll be slimey, I once had "fried okra" ad a little cafe that had the audacity to batter and fry the okra whole needless to say only the ends were edible
>>7845883
made some smaller ones, not bad. I'd rather eat some vegetables that taste good on their own t b h
>>7845895
if you've still got some left stew em up with some tomatoes
>>7845895
>>7839766
> toxic fumes and residue from plastic coated milk carton
Yeah, good idea there, anon...
>>7845899
forgot to get new charcoal, gonna go to the store quick while this big guy rests
>>7845947
1/2 lb
>>7845952
sauce for the burger
good mayo, roasted garlic, lime juice, dried tarragon.
>>7846076
corn's on, gonna take the husks off towards the end to char it a bit
>>7846100
burger's on
>>7846118
Manchego cheese on
>>7846076
That sauce looks good. Let us know how it works with the burger.
>>7846141
tossed the corn with lime, salt, and grated manchego
>>7846208
using arugula for greens, not everyone likes this stuff on burgers but I love it
>>7846187
tastes gr8
Would have prefered medium temp but the meat was not really fresh
>>7846225
