I'm interested OP. Though dumpster diving for anything citrus sounds incredibly stupid to me since I live in Florida and every other house here has trees out front you can pick from for free. Be careful with the meat, cheese, and dairy stuff too unless you know it's still cold when you find it, and even then you never know what could have happened to it before it reached the dumpster. Sniff test everything.

My mom once brought some not-fresh champignons that were about to be thrown out, we made a tasty meal out of it and ate it. I was kind off fascinated of eating food that markets wouldn't sell anymore, that many people would throw into the trash. Then I remembered that I once heard of dumpster diving and googled for some more informations. I started checking the stores in my area and found some open bins. And here I am now.

In reality when there is a massive recall they arent allowed to throw it to the garbage because some of the recalls are because the produce are health hazards and someone eating out of the trash can injure himself.
Other than that they think there are chests filled with delicious candy that got expired the previous day but in the off chance that candy with a shelf life of over a year goes unsold its the employees who get first claim. Sure its against corporate rules but they still "take it tothe trash" and actually hide it in their car trunks and take home.
I have even seen people claim they found old laptops which is stupid, nobody throws a functioning laptop away and other shit, all that it takes to get a couple hundred likes is to take a picture of shit that you got around and say you wont ever guess what i found in the trash
