Let me tell you secret
Good curry needs good curry base sauce, which should be based off of boiled chopped onions then pureed in a blender. That's the most important part.
Then you use tomato paste and whatever spices for certain curry. You need a good amount of oil to bring out the spices.
Find a recipe book that has pureed onions as a base. The Curry Secret is a good book.
You don't want authentic indian recipes, you want british restaurant curry recipes.
