I'm not sure if you guys know alcohol, but I figured this was the board to ask.

I love absinthe, but it makes me fucking NUTS. I stabbed myself and then cleaned a whole bathroom to sparkling while bleeding all over myself through my makeshift tourniqet on the stuff, and another time I dislocated one of my hands by punching a concrete wall as hard as I could. Barely felt it.

I drink vodka, whiskey (which makes me violent but not stupid), beer, you name it. But only absinthe turns me into a rabid animal. I looked stuff up and people are saying there are no hallucenoencis in it, that that is a myth. There's no way that's right, is there?

maybe you're just a shit show nutter and that has nothing to do with it.

Absinthe in Europe had wormwood in it. That's hallucinogenic. The pussy version we drink in the US doesn't unless you made it yourself.
>>
>>7713585
Got it from a friend from Czech. That msut be it.

>>7713584
I'm also a generally unstable personality, so cheers. Thanks guys.
>>

No, this is a myth. There is wormwood in it, but it's not hallucinogenic.

OP is probably failing to dilute it to the appropriate extent and then drinking it too quickly. Getting drunk faster can lead to a different sort of experience.
>>
>>7713578
The only thing different about it is that it's higher content that normal, you're just placeboing yourself
>>
>>7713585
Wormwood content in historical recipes was well below modern legal limits.

Absinthe's reputation as something more than just alcohol is from scummy practices of bathtub distillers, particularly the nasty substances used to dye their swill green.

Shit's still 70% ABV and will fuck you up if you don't dilute it like you're supposed to, but the clean stuff without heavy metals was never hallucinogenic.

Oh yeah, I was just slugging it after already having drunk that night.

I was in a tiny bar in Sagres, Portugal and they were making these crazy absinthe cocktails.
>Absinthe
>Goldschläger
>Vodka
>Something else
>Set on fire and shaken whilst stuck to the barman's hand.

I ended up in a girl's bathroom sticking a knife into her thumb to remove a splinter and my friend ended up spending the night in a canyon.

I've gotten the so called 'secondary effects' from two brands of Absinthe in the past.. my first time on Peré Kermann's Absinthe was intense. It was basically focused around me being horny as fuck. It started with me hallucinating getting a literal embrace from an entity... the green fairy herself it felt like. In the end of the evening I remember being so 'tripped' that I basically felt it like I was physically present in the setting of the porno I was watching on my computer.
My second trip was on Kübler. Nice sensation of the special downer from absinthe and upper (the ordinary upper from alcohol). I was able to see 'auras' around pics of girls I had on my screen. Good times.
I do believe it's more than a myth but the problem with commercial brands is that it's kind of a gamble every time if you'll feel anything special or not. There's a great post from drugs-forums.com where one dude writes about his experience on homemade absinthe made with fresh wormwood (fresh is the key according to him) that is so much potent than even the best commercial brands. But I'm happy to have experienced at least something.

The latest brands I had, Lucid and Pernod Recette Traditionelle were worthless. Lucid is American and from what I've heard they never work as they should and Pernod despite being European has too little of whatever makes it work as well. Disappointing but yeah.

Btw I've never wanted to break anything on absinthe or start a brawl. That's not how I react to it.

fake and lame

It's like how a lot of cases of women having their drinks drugged just ends up with them actually not realizing how much alcohol they're consuming, and blacking out from it.

There have been studies showing that most of the effects of alcohol are also cultural, if most people believe that alcohol makes you mad you get mad, happy you get happy, etc.

You're just drinking absinthe with the mindset that it's gonna make you fucking NUTS, and you feel free to act that way because you think you're not in control anymore since you had some absinthe.

tldr you're doing it to yourself
>>
>>7713578
You're just getting a placebo effect.

All alcohol has the excact same effect on your body. "Absinthe" doesnt make you any crazier than beer, only more drunk, faster.
>>

This is correct.

There's a Total Wine near me that stocks absinthe, and I've had everything from Mansinthe (66.6% ABV, Switzerland) to Vieux Carre (60% ABV, USA), with and without thujone, and it's never made me "nuts" nor done anything besides taste like licorice from hell. But then I also sip it like a civilized person and don't chug it like an animal.

You're just getting too drunk too fast and you're losing track of the booze in your body.

I doubt any form of mental manipulation or placebo in general would cause someone to act out so extremely

The more likely reason is that OP is drinking a lot of strong absinthe in a short period of time

Any large amounts of alcohol in a short period of time will cause you to act out, obviously adjusting for ABV the effects can magnify

When I was 15 we stole a bottle of absinth with my friends from their parents and drank the 0.7L bottle in 3 people. I puked all around my friends house and have no idea how I got home. Beautiful times.
>>
>>7713578
No hallucinogens in absinth. I've had plenty of it and I can tell you it's a meme. It's just another kind of spirit that effects you differently than others, can happen with anyone.
