Toppings aren't even necessary. Sometimes I add some cayenne though.

Slice like pic related, place in preheated skillet with some butter and a splash of water.
Cook on medium for 6-8 minutes on either side, or until they are tender enough for a fork to pierce.
If you are feeling sassy, finish with a little butter and brown sugar on top.

how I make my mash
peel it and dice it (the smaller the better)
chop red onions and/or green onions to your liking (about half of what you put in sweet potato)
crush sizeable amount of garlic
throw a big chunk of salted butter in a large pot that's been preheated, the butter has to boil a bit and cover the bottom of the pot
fry onions and garlic until it starts cooking a bit
throw in the sweet potato dices and mix it all
cover and let cook on slow fire
about 5 minutes in, throw in another chunk of butter on top, let it melt and mix again
stir from time to time until it's all mashed up

microwave until it's done, be sure to prick the fuck out of it before putting it in unless you want it to explode.
bake that shit up, top with stir fry vegetables.
nutritional yeast on top of that if you got it.
have it mashed
have it roasted with beef/chicken w/e
have it baked or twice baked
have it as chips if you can fry it some how (wedges also)
have it sliced and fried in a pan
have it with a pie; king neptune pie, meat pie, sheppard etc.
have as hashbrowns/gems
potatoes are so versatile
should be a staple for everyone.
Cook them as home fries, with sauteed onions and mushrooms.
I like making baked fries with them. Coat with veg. oil or olive oil, and season taste.
Sweet Potato Honey Fries with Curry-Honey Sauce
An aromatic combination of spices elevate the humble sweet potato oven fry to something truly special. We like to serve a batch of still-warm wedges alongside a creamy curry-honey dipping sauce, with lime wedges for an acidic kick.
SERVES 4-6
For the Sweet Potato Wedges
3 medium sweet potatoes (about 1 1⁄2 pounds), cut lengthwise into 1⁄4" wedges
3 tbsp. olive oil
1 tsp. ground cumin
1 tsp. smoked paprika
1 tsp. ground ginger
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Lime wedges, for serving
For the Curry–Honey Sauce
1⁄3 cup mayonnaise
1⁄2 cup Greek yogurt
1 tbsp. fresh lime juice
1 tbsp. honey
4 tsp. curry powder
sometimes i make a variation on that. the sauce is so so. i either do wedges or if i feel ambitious, i slice the potato really thin and add molasses while they cook and let sweet onion and ginger slowly melt into the potato.
Steaming is fastest and easiest.
Cut up however you like, I found around 5-7 minutes did the trick. I can easily eat it straight out of the steamer but you could just throw some butter and salt on there and be good to go.
Steaming's really ideal for a lot of things
poke holes in the outside of 1-2lbs sweetpotatos
rinse
wrap in paper towels
microwave for 5 minutes
turn over
microwave for 2 minutes
slice + mash the result
slice in any variety of onions (green/red/white) and peppers (red/jalapeno)
add 1/2 can drained tuna
stir
heat again for like 1-2 minutes
add hot sauce, stir
incredibly easy and delicious and healthy
