How many calories would you say are in this salad?

There's an avocado at the bottom and about a 1/2 cup of peanuts.

I'm only reason asking because I've been recording this salad as 1000 cals every day, thinking I'm being conservative. But I'm starting to think it's that much or even more.

How large the avocado is and how many nuts there are make a pretty big difference. That said, I'd guess you've got about a pound of salad?

Calories go roughly 4:4:7:9 per gram of protein:carbs:alcohol:fat. Nuts are about half fat and a fifth carbs, vegetables are around 5% carbs, avocado has about 15% fat in addition, and oil is obviously all fat. So guessing weights:

50g nuts, 225 from fat and 40 from carbs
200g veg, 40 from carbs
160g avocado, 32 + 216
10g oil, 90

or 643 cals all together.

I'm really not.

So we've got:
1 small avocado
1 large carrot
1/3 of a cucumber
1 small bell pepper
4 stalks of cellery
1 tomato
1/2 cup of peanuts
and a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

I know I could do this by myself but maybe someone can do it better/faster.

I didn't think you had as much as half a cup of peanuts in there, but looking again there do seem to be quite a lot.

You can see that the peanuts, avocado and oil are by far the largest contributors, so it makes a huge difference how much of those you actually have. You can practically ignore the vegetables in comparison.

A whole cup of peanuts is supposedly about 150g and 828 calories. Look at pic related, that's 100 calories' worth of peanuts, and there's maybe 40 peanut halves there max?

Oil is similar, a tablespoon is 120 calories. I kinda doubt you're putting a whole tablespoon on though, try doing a pretend drizzle into a measuring spoon.

Overestimating is sensible, but given how calorific they are I think it makes sense to get a bit rainman about the weight of the really oily ingredients.

I need the peanuts to support my cycling habits. If the salad that I make every night is about 1000 calories, it's accounted for.
