American here. I actually like English cuisine, pasties, pies, and such. I also like tea a lot. There's a place near where I used to live that had a nice selection of teas and made killer Yorkshire pudding.
I've had some really strange Korean food in my life that I wasn't too crazy about. I love kimchi though.
Even Russian I've had some decent meals: pickles, cabbage, roasted chicken, and vodka so cold it was starting to become viscous.

I have been to Ecuador a couple times actually. I don't know how British food is so bland but it is. It's the same as Mongolian/North Asian food, true Mongolian food. Being in such a cold climate and without a lot of fishing locations, you basically resort to eating really tough meats and having a lot of vegetarian dishes. Most of it is bland due to the lack of spices, especially in the steppes. At least the Brits had access to a wide variety of spices.

To be fair, I lived in Japan for almost 9 years and I agree with him.
A few things are awesome about their food but it's mostly cuz their restaurants (and cost of living) is dirt cheap, along with their alcohol.
Half of their food is stolen/warped recipes from China and Korea and apart from one or two awesome dishes like sushi, champru or nabe it's generally all pretty bland looking and tasting. White and brown in colour, no real strong tastes because they rely on the SaShiSuSeSou of cooking too much.

I think to raise the level of discussion about the worth of each cuisine we'd need a criteria of what makes food "good". Analogies to other arts/enjoyments would be helpful.

Nah m8. The traditional patty-on-a-bun-with-condiments hamburger has been around since the 1880s in the US and popular since the early 1900s. It was really our first national and endemic dish (ie. not regional like gumbo, imported from yurop like waffles, stolen from natives like Cornbread or too simple to be a "dish", like muffins); you really can't find a food more generically American than a hamburger.
