What are your favorite cooking shows, /ck/?

I personally enjoy Cutthroat Kitchen and Good Eats
>>

The reality show format of CK really bothers me. Good Eats is terrific. I also watch Gordon's at home thing he does.

Mostly though I just watch non-shows on Youtube. They tend to be more about the cooking than the cook.

Travels shows are pretty good actually, but that's mostly about eating.
>>
Cutthroat just got too ridiculous for its own good. Oh you have to tape a spatula to your hands and use jelly beans in your dish while also jacking me off. All those types of shows are just Chopped rip offs which is the GOAT.

AB is nothing but a retard and a script reader
>>
Cooking shows took a sinking dive in the 90's. They'll never come back due to the popularity of commoner cooking. Emeril torpedoed the genre, was the figurehead of the end of the style of cooking shows that weren't targeted at the lowest common denominator.
Cooking shows shouldn't have multiple writers and a script (or a band, for that matter). It used to be about the chef's talent and ability to teach.
There's a few shows out there, but they are not on FN. Alton Brown is a turd. He's about as much of a cook as Bill Nye is a scientist. Fucking embarrassing, really.

I too enjoy good eats, for baking stuff I like watching the british bakeoff competition just to see nice things i'll never be able to make.

I like Iron Chef, especially the older ones. There the focus was on the actual cooking itself.

Chopped and such are OK I guess but I dislike the fact there's always some silly gimmick involved; plus the time, budgetary, and pantry limitations really restrict what the chefs can do.
>>
I hate that shit.

If I watch Food Network, it's because I'm interested in the food. This show is only about drama and screwing other people over. The basic premise of the show is taking food, and making it worse than it needs to be. Which is the opposite of why I'd want to watch Food Network.

Some time ago Food Network stopped being about food, and started being about asshole "network celebrities" and reality show cunts.

Kinda reminds me of when History Channel stopped being about history and instead was about aliens and pawnbrokers.

Foodnetwork died when they stopped having the large cake competitions, it was the turning point to muh reality teevees which is mostly to blame on guy fieri because he wasn't good enough to hold peoples attention in his own actual cooking show, but the change started with rachel ray and her 40 dollars a day bullshit.
>>
My favorites that I can remember were Iron Chef, Good Eats, Emeril Live, and Ming's Quest
>>
>>7597461
Masterchef Australia
>>
I only watch informative cooking shows, not this challenge person vs person garbage.
>>
>>7598442

Frankly I find the various Iron Chef competitions to be highly informative. You don't need a narrator explaining everything, just pay attention to what the chefs are doing.

Though I go agree that the silly gimmicks from the recent shows like Chopped or cutthroat kitchen are just plain silly.
>>
>>7597461
Kitchen Nightmares is the only one I like. The British one is okay but the American one is superior if you have it downloaded so you can quickly skip the reiteration shit.
>>
>>7597573
I hate Alton Brown, but at least Bill Nye is an engineer so he's educated and his show was aimed towards teaching kids, so he had a reason for silly skits and juvenile methods. Alton Brown tried to use the same formula for adults and it was just so childish and cringey
>>
Long retired favorites:
Good Eats, Bitchin Kitchen, Food Detectives.

I liked Alton Brown but not as much of a fan anymore. Can't find anything likeable about Cutthroat Kitchen.

>it's an Alton closes the door on a contestant even though they've already got a foot out the door episode

Fucking dick I thought after good eats he'd be cool
>>
>>7597561
This. Also a hack and pretentious.

He went to college for theatre arts. He doesn't know shit about cooking other than what his staff researches for him. He's never owned a restaurant, let alone worked in one.
>>
>>7597461
AB is one of the rare role model I have in this world.

He's not a cook, just a reallly good sincere actor. He keeps the important part of his private life hidden and just gives a good show.

He makes thing fun, interesting. It's what good cooking is all about making a visually pleasant meal, full of nutrients and well balanced.
>>

>He keeps the important part of his private life hidden

What? He's a raging religious nut and lifetime NRA member.

Looked at his twitter and most of his tweets are like this shit. Pictures of his monitor with post it notes. That's nice grandpa. I wonder if he knows that he can just add a caption with his pics? I guess he like every other old man confused by the self checkout. Yes pushing every button on the screen is going to help you.

Anthony? Is that you?
>>

>tfw 25 and never used the self checkout
I'm going to be confused old man tier by 30.

Except he also graduated from New England Culinary Institute. I've never owned a restaurant but I certainly can cook and teach other to do so. You're the pretentious faggot.
>>
>>7599125
You rather wait in line instead of going to the self check out and leaving right away. Can you use an ATM? Do you use a credit card or do you find it easier to use cash?
>>
>>7599244
Well there's rarely more than one person in front of me when I go and I know who the quick cashiers are. I shop for myself and 3 other people so I'd probably be slower doing it myself.
It's just a symptom of my anxiety, same as how I hate driving to places I haven't been before even though they're just the same old streets.

A lot of places don't even have self checkout. When I lived in California I never saw one. It wasn't until I came to Oregon and saw they were everywhere that I had to learn to use them. Even now I tend to avoid them, and will not use them if I have produce because stuff like that has no barcode.
>>
I cannot fathom why people watch Cutthroat Kitchen or Grocery Games or most of the Food Network programming for that matter.
>>
>>7598405
>Kinda reminds me of when History Channel stopped being about history and instead was about aliens and pawnbrokers.

Isn't that around TLC stopped being The Learning Channel?

Anywho, the only thing I watch FN related these days is Unwrapped because it a combo of How its Made for food and Mark Summers.
>>
In terms of actual cooking shows, American's Test Kitchen and Cook's Country are definitely my favorites. I've never tried a recipe from them that wasn't awesome. Simply Ming, Bitchin Kitchen, and Good Eats are great too.

I'm a sucker for cooking reality shows too. Hell's Kitchen, Chopped, Top Chef, Iron Chef, etc. Anyone remember Sweet Genius? Really enjoyed that one, too bad it didn't last long.
>>
>>7599319
The reason I asked about the ATM is if you can use that then you can use the self check out. They have tabs on the screen that have sections for the bakery and produce. If you have arugula hit produce and then A and look for arugula. I've had cashiers that don't know the PLU codes and have to ask or flip through the book to find the item. Most of the times you're just swiping the upc code and putting it on the belt
>>
>>7599511
My girlfriend absolutely REFUSES to do ATM. I mean I completely understand from an intellectual perspective, but in the heat of the moment it would be amazing and it isn't THAT big of a deal.

She always says "how about I stick my finger in your butt and you suck on it" but it's not the same thing. I think I'm just desensitized from seeing it in porn, but I just think it would be so hot if she did it. It's kind of like showing completely abandonment and just showing your willingness to please and Need for Cock (4: Hot Pursuit).

The thing is, I swear she did it once a long time ago, but I'm not sure if my memory is wrong. I remember trying to ass fuck her in the early days when it rarely worked out well and she told me to stop. So I started titty-fucking her while she was on her back, which is hot in itself considering my cock was in her ass, and then I came all over her tits*. I swear I remember her putting my cock in her mouth briefly and afterwards me telling her she put my ass-cock in her mouth and she played it off like it was nothing. Was this real?

*Another thing: she won't even let me cum in her face/mouth after my dick is in her ass. I mean I doubt there is much contamination in my urethra from anal sex.

>Kinda reminds me of when History Channel stopped being about history and instead was about aliens and pawnbrokers.
I think this is the direction most media is going. Hell look out the presidential election, it's basically reality TV and Trump admits to acting like a tard because it gets supporters out there. He knows what the morons want: TLC, Food Network, History Channel-tier retardation.
>>
Fuck Cutthroat Kitchen, Chopped is way better.

I'd rather the chefs all get an equal lot in the cooking. The disadvantages in CK make it more irritating to watch than entertaining.
>>
>>7597461
Kitchen Nightmares is my favorite. Just checked out Cutthroat Kitchen, thanks for this, OP!
