When I was a kid, back before pizza places started making Hawaiian pizza, my mom (who's German) used to make me Hawaii Toast. Which was some thick sliced good bread (not dark bread, but good white bread), toasted, the topped with ham, pineapple, and cheese, and broiled. This was back in the early 80s (yes, I'm fucking old, so fucking what). So, obviously, I love Hawaiian pizza. I don't eat pizza very often anymore, maybe once a month or month and a half, but we usually get some kind of mushroom and veg pizza, and a Hawaiian pizza.
Pic somewhat related, it's typical Hawaii toast, but my mom would use well drained crushed pineapple sometimes, which I actually liked better because it covered more of the toast and was easier to get browned and caramelized.
