The secret of the shit restaurants are tons of salt. Just put tons of salt onto an 80/20 ground beef patty. Grill it or pan fry it to your desired thickness, and then toast the bun a little bit with some butter on it. Cheese up your patty, and then add it to the bun.

Just make one at home.
Get some lean hamburger meant, toss in some basic seasonings-either your faves, or some seasoning salt/all round seasoning, mix that shit in real good. Shape and sit aside as you chop some thin slices of fresh onion, tomato, pickle, some mozzarella or pepperjack, tear off a piece of dark green lettuce.
Next you gotta make sure you got the right bun. I always enjoy something thick, soft, and a little on the sweet side. For that I would check out the section of the store where they make their own bagels and breads and such. If nothing there, try a nice potato bread bun.
For sauce-cause you don't want a dry bun, I like mixing mayo with a little mustard and sweet relish (JUST A LITTLE!). You just want a hint of the sweetness while still being able to taste the mayo and mustard.
Cook that burger up to medium-well, and bite in!
