Any of the America's Test Kitchen books honestly. I'm particularly fond of Kimball's Cook's Bible.

might actually be exactly what you are looking for, they modified recipes to make it simpler and easier to cook for two, no buying an 8 pound cut of meat you cant finish, no buying a pound of tahini you only need 4oz of, etc
