Normies seem to love sushi, I can't stand it. How bout you /ck/ do you like sushi?
>>
>>7558934
if you think that's sushi you have yet to try sushi my friendo
>>
I hate seafood of any kind.

lobster, fried fish, baked fish, fish and chips, fish sticks, crab cakes, catfish, carb, oysters, mussels, any recipe, chowder, bouillabaisse, gumbo, you name it. instant unvoluntary gag.

but I love sushi. All of it, even the weird shit. It's a mystery to me
>>
It is objectivy great. Also that image is shitty sushi. K-rab roll lol. Get some fuckin seared mackerel nigiri.
>>
>>7558955
I won't eat raw meat of any kind.
>>
>>7558955
Maybe the vinegar rice counteracts the fishiness?
>>
>>7558934
I like sushi when it's warm out and I want something hearty but not hot.
>>
>normies

No wonder /r9k/ is so shit now, everything spread to normalfags liek OP
>>

I served my mother carpaccio and told her it was cured meat. She loved it. I'm coming for you next.
>>
>>7559015
You sweet, sweet satan.
>>
No. I don't get why it's so popular. Teriyaki and tempura are much better.
>>
>>7558934
If you get a good restaurant it's amazing. In my country, the Netherlands, I've had sushi that ranged from pretty decent to garbage. However in China I've had sushi that was just amazing. It all depends on the restaurant and the quality of the fish they serve though.
>>
It REALLY depends for me.
I used to not like sushi at all, then one day I decided to try it again, and surprisingly it's now one of my favorite foods to eat.
>>
are you ok my bro?
>>
The rice is filler. I get sashimi and ignore the rice on the side.
>>
>>7560344
It's not sushi without the rice, anon.
>>
>>7558955
I like all the NEET options
crab cakes, fish sticks, fish and chips, fried fish and sometimes baked fish
sushi is only alright
>>
well it aint bad but shits totally overrated.

i guess it exorcises the repressed weeb we all have inside.

>Thinking sushi is bad

You probably have only had shit sushi. In America if you're not paying atleast 20+ bucks for it its definitely garbage sushi, and even then a lot of place still are pretty bad.
>>
Too expensive. It's art that you eat, meant to be fed to bitches that you want to fuck. There's a goddamn bucket of sugar in sushi rice and since they don't pay sushi chefs a living wage for a very difficult and specialized skills, you usually get sushi made by a n00b. There is too much room for error and it requires too much expertise and expensive equipment to come out half decent

That being said, good sushi is an amazing experience
>>
>>7558942
love it, especially with pickled ginger and a bit of soy sauce.
>>
>>7560701
Sushi place near me sells it for a 1.50 for 6 rolls

Delicious stuff

Sashimi is a dollar or two extra but even better
>>
>>7561847
>eating the pickled ginger with sushi
Nothing wrong with that, but you're supposed to eat the gari between pieces to cleanse the palate
>>
I love sashimi, and like nigiri and maki rolls, but I can't stand sushi rolls covered in sauces and tempura bits, and god knows what else. I want to taste the fish, goddamn it, not soy sauce and spicy mayonnaise and fried batter bits. My favorite thing to order is the chef's special sashimi assortment of the day, tekka maki, and some miso soup. That's pretty perfect for me, personally. Although I'll also sometimes order ikura with quail egg yolk because it's so luscious.
>>
>>7560701
>>7561862

I guess it really depends where in America you're located. Anything near the ocean I imagine would be cheaper for the restaurant to get fish, so you could get good sushi for cheap.

If you're miles from the ocean, yeah I'd agree with Anon that anything not "expensive" isn't going to be good quality.

I'm in a land locked town and the only restaurants that have quality sushi usually sell a tuna roll for $5-7, six pieces.
>>
>>7561862
2 pieces here is $3
>>
>>7558934
I'm from a port city. Fucking lovve sashimi my Bros n hoes.
>>
>>7561879
The only legit sushi place near me is $3.50/piece for tuna (not fatty, that's m.p.).
>>
Favorite is eel, but spicy salmon or tuna or whatever is good too.
>>
>>7558955
Same, I do not gag but I do not enjoy eating any cooked fish. I will eat sushi and sashimi though.
>>

I'm a waiter with 5+ years at a sushi restaurant.

God tier sushi:
aji, unagi, salmon roe (esp with quail egg), escolar, and albacore.

I also really like salmon skin hand rolls with eel sauce, cream cheese, scallion, avocado and tobiko.
>>
>>7558934
I remember the ultimate insult I had received at a sushi resturaunt.

I was served my order of sushi and sashimi combo, and the sashimi cuts were seperated by lemons.

LEMONS.

The flavor got everywhere, and it spoiled the taste of the meat.

If I fucked wanted lemon on my fucking fish I would've gone to an Italian resturaunt.

I am forever angry at that one sushi place.
>>
>>7562143
Lemon is acceptable, but it needs to be sliced paper thin.
>>
>>7562149
it was not. Thick juicy lemons.

As if somehow I insulted the sushi chefs.
>>
>>7558934
I looove sushi.
my favorites are unagi, hamachi, sake (salmon) and ikura.
but I'll also eat any roll that's been tempura'd ;)
>>
>>7562138
>waiters thinking they know anything about food

Fuck off.
>>
>>7558934
My favourites are squid and octopus sashimi

Also its kind of the reason I'm not allowed to play Splatoon
>>
>>7558934

sushi is pretty good but it's too expensive for a sliver of fish and clump of rice. I can't say it's not comfy as fuck to gorge yourself on a bunch of rolls with a few friends and drink sake, and the miso soup is nice too

girls love it, proving themselves once again as the lesser of the sexes.
>>
>>7562173
You do know waiters at Michelin tier restaurants are trained to know the menu, right? Or are you talking about Applebees?
>>
>>7562187
>implying that anon works at a Michelin star restaurant
>implying knowing a menu is the same as having a refined pallet
>>
>>7562204
>can't even spell palate
>wants us to believe he knows what he's talking about
if someone's worked in a sushi restaurant for five years, you better bet they know their way around sushi. the server has to know everything about the menu and usually they have to try all the food on it too, so they can describe the dishes to patrons and make recommendations from firsthand experience.

go back to wherever you came from, you don't belong here.
>>
>>7562187
Even waiters at Applebees have to know the ins and outs of the menu and try most of the schlock on there
>>
>>7562138

>I'm a waiter with shit taste
>>
>>7562212

He listed unagi and escolar as god tier and recommended shit with cream cheese.
>>
>>7562224
unagi is pretty god tier, and he only said he liked a particular roll with cream cheese.
this might surprise you to learn, but taste is subjective.
>>
>>7562231

Unagi is decent, but it's entry level sushi. Cream cheese and excess mayo and eel sauce is just shit they use to cover up poor quality sushi.
>>
>>7558934
Sushi is in my top 5 favorite foods for sure

>>

I love sushi, my favorite are the plain rolls of just fish, rice, and seaweed and sashimi. Sushi is one of those foods where the less busy it is, the better it is, so as long as the ingredients are high quality
>>
i can way sushi all day every day
>>
>>7562604
I don't know, CAN you? ;)

No faggot you can't
>>
>>7562831
You uncut, right bro?
>>
>>7558934
I find that I am very picky when it comes to sushi. Alot of the popular stuff are crap like California and Caterpillar rolls, but the simple stuff like smoked eel and spicey tuna are great.
>>
Living in Japan, I miss trashy American style sushi that is literally just sauce and extravagant designs meant to mimic an American's idea of what Japan is like.

Ika tempura and the occasional sloppily-made-by-Koreans california rolls are the closest I can get.
>>
>>7562936

If your tuna has to be spicy, it's not great tuna.
>>
>>7560344
Are you retarded? Sushi is all about the rice, ask literally any sushi chef on the planet.
>>
>>7562993
>sushi chef
Oh you mean the guy that cuts up raw fish and cooks rice?

I think a McDonalds Fry Master does more varied cooking than a "sushi chef".
>>
>>7563001
No, I'm talking a real sushi chef. Ones that do omakase more often than they get menu orders.
>>
>>7563001
Because its that easy so the chefs at every decent sushi place are 17 year old kids with literally no job skills. Theres no need to hire anyone above minimum wage because it'll taste just as good.

Thats what happens right?
>>
As with most foreign foods, I chalk 90% of the hype to the fact that our countries are wholly debased and trained to fetishize anything non-western so they run out by the truckload to buy ching ching you rikey rong time foods instead of just eating like normal people

It's not bad, I just don't get why it's all over the place and why there are restaurants that specialize in sticking raw fish in rice.
>>
>>7563066
It's all over the place because it's a quick and convenient finger food. Same reason burgers are all over the place.

Sushi for me is all about the fish. I fucking hate it when you go to a buffet and you get only rice filled with cucumber or some other crap.

That's why I make sushi mostly at home because sashimi and good sushi is way too expensive in restaurants and it is very easy to prepare yourself.
Pic related from last week.
>>
>>7564342
too much nori, good luck chewing that
also fish are poisoned with mercury
>>
>>7564347
>poisoned with mercury

1) That's only an issue if you eat the fish often. I doubt anon is eating sushi every day.

2) That looks like mackerel, a fast-growing fish that is very low in mercury anyway.
>>
>>7564347
>also fish are poisoned with mercury
Nope.
>>
>>7564355
>that is very low in mercury anyway
i wouldn't be so sure

>>7564356
yep :
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_in_fish
>>
>>7564423
Nope. Just check up on mackerel fished in Norway and Western Sweden basically no environmental toxins.
You will get similar amounts from eating vegetables. As you know - They grow from the ground which is full of all sorts of crap.
You can't avoid everything but fresh mackerel is delicious and very healthy.
>>
>>7564423
>i wouldn't be so sure

Why? Your own chart shows that atlantic mackerel (the most common consumer species) is quite low in mercury.

Besides, why worry about this at all unless you're eating fish every day?
>>
>>7564433
>basically no environmental toxins
ofcourse that's what the fish industry will tell you.

but still swedish and norwish doctors will not recommend your mackerel to pregnant women.
>>
>>7564453
lol no

"Fisk och skaldjur Àr rikt pÃ¥ vitamin D, jod och selen, som Àr viktiga nÀr du Àr gravid. Fet fisk, som lax och makrill, innehÃ¥ller ocksÃ¥ omega 3-fett. Ät dÀrför fisk 2–3 gÃ¥nger i veckan och vÀlj olika sorter, bÃ¥de mager och fet."
http://www.livsmedelsverket.se/matvanor-halsa--miljo/kostrad-och-matvanor/gravida/

The government agency of Sweden tells pregnant women to eat mackerel 2-3 times a week.
>>

>>it accumulates in the body over time.
We know. But it's also a rare problem. How many people do you know who have had mercury poisioning? I doubt you could even name one, and for some reason that stops you from eating fish? Now consider how many people you know who have been in a traffic accident. Does that stop you from riding in a motor vehicle?
>>
>>7564472
>>7564472
:D A recommendation of 2-3 times a week is the RECOMMENDATION TO EAT - Not a command to avoid fish.
No wonder your reading comprehension is poop when your brain is atrophied by a lack of essential fatty acids and cobalamin.
>>
>>7564472
and of course like with most things you can eat almost anything in moderation. With regard to bananas you must restrict them too because no matter what you eat too much of it will poison you.
Just eating bananas will probably cause you potassium poisoning not to mention all those pesticides that they are sprayed with fucking you up way worse than any fish.
