Favourites gins, favourite tonics. Martinis. Negronis. Let's talk about gin.

Just got a bottle of pic related, really nice stuff. Quite thick and syrupy as its distilled with honey. Each bottle is hand numbered and has the postcode of where the bees that made the honey live.

This is the only premium tonic I can get where I live. Should I search further for different tonics or is this about the best it gets?

Whenever I use Fevertree it reminds me how sickly sweet Schwepps and supermarket brand tonics are. Disgusting.
>>
>>7552267
Is that bottle really small or are your hands really big?
>>
>>7552267
>"small batch"
>"crafted"

its good that its nice but that meme marketting is gay as fuck, suprised it doesnt say ethically sourced honey
>>
who /Gin&Soda/ here instead of shit-tier tonic?
>>
>>7552273
I prefer to use tonic syrup mixed with club soda. I've got a little selection of different soda syrups that I keep on hand for highballs in conjunction with ultra-cheap store brand club soda. It takes up less space and often works out to be cheaper. Try Jack Rudy, Ruby D, or British Colonial. All cost less than 20 bucks and and make about 22 bottles worth of tonic.
>>
>>7552273
these are pretty good but I prefer Q tonic. However both are better than schweppes, or at least less syrupy

Gimmick? It's £200 a bottle and is flavoured with some acid that's secreted from ants.
>>
>>7552481
>Each bottle is labeled using The Cambridge Distillery's 1924 typewriter and contains the essence of around 62 wood ants

wow they used a real typewriter? Where can I buy this amazing elixr?
>>
Is gin and tonic healthy?

You get the vitamins from the lime and anti-malaria from the tonic. Also doesn't the tonic stop you from getting dehydrated?

I never get hungover after a night of G&Ts
>>
>>7552530
It's healthy compared to other alcoholic drinks. Much better than ales/wine.

Vodka soda and gin tonics have the least calories and fats.
>>
>>7552530
That is the exact argument I use to convince myself its okay to sit on the porch and drink for just one more hour.

Bombay, got two 1.75 litre bottles for 40 dollars total, each was 20 individually. Good shit

Not a massive fan of Bombay, it always leaves a weird cloying taste in my mouth.

I prefer Martin Millers which you can get for a similar price, or Plymouth.
>>
>>7552349
Are you saying tonic is shit tier, or you prefer soda when only shit-tier tonic is available?

I bought a bottle of this in a Canadian airport for ~35CAD. Very satisfied with it.

Dunno how many folks have tried it but if you haven't, give Hendricks Gin a try. Freaking love it. Granted it's very very Cucumber heavy since that's its main botanical, but good lord is it refreshing as hell when you make a G&T

Americans are not allowed to have it. Of course they wouldn't post it.
>>
>>7552273
Fever Tree is great, their ginger beer with some gin and lime is fantastic.
Only prob is they are a bit expensive in aus, gets hard to justify the cost.

better than Tanq, Bombay, and Hendricks.

honestly this and Bluecoat are the only gins I care to drink anymore
>>
>>7556446
All over it already senpai, my go to Gin when I have the money to blow. Never get any acidy burning with it either if I'm drinking them to get drunk. Cucumber>>>lime
>>
>>7558888
Quads for truth. So damn refreshing. I actually tried it with a Gin gimlet. Didn't add the sugar it normally calls for. Came out super zesty with the harsh acidic lime/cucumber combo but really nice served super cold.
>>
I usually drink gin+tonic.

I have tried Gilbey's, Bombay Sapphire, Tanqueray, Uncle Val's, Hendrick's, and Magetlan's Iris.

Favorite so far is Hendrick's, runner up is Uncle Val's Botanical.

Only one I actually disliked is Bombay Sapphire.

Why is dry gin so not dry?
>>
>>7556446
What's a good price for this? I saw a liter of it an airport for ~40 USD, but I wasn't flying international and couldn't get it.
>>
>>7560061
Can't you just get it at a local store? The stuff's ubiquitous.
>>
>>7560061
For the 1l? That's actually pretty reasonable. I've seen it range from 30-40 just for the 750ml.

I recently bought a bottle of this. Is it any good?
>>
>>7559811
It's pretty much just a cheap standard gin they have at most bars in the UK.

Gordon's, Beefeater and Bombay are the most common house gins.

Beefeater 24 is a fantastic gin if you can get that.
>>
How do I make a good martini? Does it only work with certain gins?

I bought a cheap vermouth and made it fairly dry with a lemon peel garnish.
>>
>>7560358
Coldness is the key.

Chill your gin/vermouth. Freeze your glass. Use lots of ice.

Stir your drink, don't shake it. Use a good quality vermouth. Garnish with lemon twist or green olive.

Hendricks is very well known, but it's hard to deny that it's a good one. Like you say, it's very heavy on the cucumber and rose notes and the juniper almost gets thrown out the window imo.

If you like Hendricks, it might be worth trying Hoxton Gin as that leans quite far away from the traditional gin notes. Very strong grapefruit / coconut notes and probably a good one for people new to gin.

I've noticed a lot of UK supermarkets are stocking more types of gin recently. Bloom is widely available now and well worth a try if you like flowery notes.

Does anyone like their gin and tonic the Spanish way? In a fishbowl glass, lots of ice, with garnishes paired to the gins botanicals?

IMO it tastes a lot nicer than the standard highball gin and tonics with a few ice cubes and a lime wedge.

Pic related, one I just made with Martin Millers.
>>
>>7561095
Good to know, I love grapefruit so that sounds interesting to have that as a main botanical.
>>
>>7552273
Waitrose isn't bad desu
>>
>>7552349
I like gin and soda because I like to taste the gin.

Tiny splash of lime juice or Rose's never hurt anyone either.
>>
>>7565977
You can taste the gin when you use tonic, it helps bring out the botanicals. You'll probably be better with a dry martini.
