So where's your space knife, /ck/??
>>
>samurai quality
>>
Most of the Kramer knifes get very nice patterns out of it, but if that is the result of folding it 800 times he might as well not have bothered. Maybe it's because the steel is so crap?
>>
>>7547089
they are not bad, nice handling, sharp, etc (i use a few of them) but the price is to high for a everyday used knife, it s more like a Ferrari , nice to have if you have the money for and cruise on a sunny weekend, but you don't use it to carry heavy loads...
>>
>>7547103
Realice that after 400 layers, it takes 1 more fold to get 800, blacksmith here
>>
>>7547216

Exponential growth.
To reach 800 layers you only need to fold it about 8-9 times. 10 folds will net you 1024 layers.
>>
>>7547216

What I mean is that he normally does it to get something like pic related.

This has no discernible pattern, so what's the folding about?

>>
>>7547249
Meteorites have a high concentration of an alloy that is very hard and tarnish resistant.
>>
>>7547282

You mean like chromium?

There are no magic meteor rare earth elements, we have all of them available in exquisite purity ready to be combined into alloys better than anything some random meteor can provide.

Is this an edit? Bourdain would never say something as ignorant as "samurai quality"
>>
>>7547285
But it was folded eight trillion times by a Samurai master, it can cut through tanks.
>>
>>7547246
>that after 400 layers, it takes 1 more fold to
how can you even get 800 layers? you can add a 512 layer piece to a 256 layer piece and get close i suppose?
>>
>>7547484
then you add a 32 and you're there!
>>
>i might have to work brunch shifts

What a pompous moronic asshole..

Makes good TV, though
>>
I cut everything with my viking axe (ancestors were warrior vikings from norway). Nordic steel is the best in the world because the iron from their mines has gone through thousands of years of blessings by sacrifices to TRUE gods not false

I found an old cleaver in my grandma's shit when she died. It was good quality steel, so I spent some time putting a really good edge on it, and now use that for virtually everything. It's amazing.
>>
>>7547247
The kind of mark in the op pic is reached by putting some kind of termal paste on the blade during heat treatment, tradicionally watered down clay. The pattern in your pic is usually reached by etching the blade in a chemical to reveal the pattern, also before each fold the blade is sometimes lightly punctured in several spots so it gets that patern.
Look up walter sorrels channel on yt, he's a knife maker and he does a lot of knifes with that kind of pattern, he also has made a katana there he shows how to make the pattern on the op
>>
>>7547484
You just peel off a few layers before the last fold.

might've been more convincing if not for those 2 words

>>
>>7547439

Yes yes would. I wrote it in a other thread a second ago he is a cock gobbling meme spammer. Literally would gobble cocks for a ferrari.
>>
>implying he paid a penny for that knife

He's shilling hard you fools
>>
This has seriously impacted my opinion of Bourdain. Not that the knives aren't good, they are, but Bob Kramer is a complete douchebag, a con artist and a weasel.

Guess you know what you know in the kitchen, Tony, but you just got ripped off by a legendary asshole.

I got an international edge tool co knife from Japan out of my late WW2 vet grandpas shed. Its damaged, but still cuts great. Excellent pinch grip. It's gigantic.

>>7549887
That's awesome.
Not often you see a blade that has purposely cut human flesh.
Treasure it, anon.

>Begin launching chunks of steel into the higher atmosphere

>collect them
>call them meteorites

Does meteor mean "from space" or "has fallen through Earth's atmosphere"?

I need to know to avoid lawsuits.
>>
>>7553036
Except the part it costs millions to launch metal up that high.
>>
>>7553045
I would do it in small amounts of course. Launch enough steel for one knife and expand.
>>
>>7547513
vikings never had iron mines, they took all theirs from trade and catching bog iron.
>>
>>7552974

The knife in OP only has a pattern due to differential heat treatment, not from folding.
>>
>>7553200

retardation runs deep and thick, I see
>>
>>7553052
but sending more up and making more knives would be so much more cost effective
>>
>>7553323
That depends. I believe rocketry has a fixed formula with regards to a ratio of weight to fuel

The question is, is it cheaper to build many tiny rockets or one large one.

But regardless, if you're a budding, expanding business, you'll just increase rocket size over time if you cannot secure a large initial investment.

knives aren't for opening tin cans of armor, katanas and knives are for cutting flesh, which they do fucking excellently.

You know, that description isn't totally silly for a handmade, hammer forged, differentially hardened blade, considering that he doesn't really know much about knives.
