Here's a little thought experiment for you: Why would sunlight be unable to penetrate past a couple hundred feet underwater unless it was being scattered/absorbed? If water was colorless light would have no problem reaching the bottom of the ocean.

That's not the same thing as having a color.
And furthermore, when most people (read: not autists) discuss color, they're talking about what is visible with a small amount of the material involved. What you see in several hundred feet of thickness isn't relevant. For example, get a piece of window glass and I think that most people would agree that it's colorless. But look at that glass from the edge of the pane rather than its flat face and it will have a faint color--greenish or blueish depending on what kind of glass it is. That sort of thing may be technically true but it isn't what people are discussing when they talk about whether or not a piece of normal glass is colorless or not. Same in the case of water. A small amount of water--say, a glassfull--is colorless.
